For years I could not understand what on earth was going on with tea bags, the tea was miserably bitter... Recently I started using proper whole leaf tea, thanks for opening our eyes guys.
@@ketsiachoisie9377 Answer: JUST DON'T DO IT! Loose leaf tea is basically the same as the tea in bags, except in the bag, the leaves are ground up so they take less time to brew. It's probably bitter because this commenter brewed it for too long. 3 minutes max if you don't want bitter tea bags. Common sense. Loose leaf tea is also very messy, and not all tea bags are machine picked. Some of the higher quality ones handpick them. Not much difference except a bunch of loose tea leaves all over the table as you struggle to get the right amount into the teapot where you could have used a pre-portioned bag of tea. End of Story.
@The Great Chaos at what temperature? I've never had good tea from tea dust. It's always burnt bitter even if I steep exactly at the suppliers' recommendations. I think if you reduce heat and time drastically, then it might be okay, but it's probably pretty bland too.
@@thegreatchaos13 However, loose leaf tea has far more variety available. The average quality is far higher than bagged tea. Bagged tea, especially the lower quality brands like Bigelow and Lipton, is usually fannings - tiny tea leaves and dust with little flavor (except bitter - bleh!). Loose leaf teas tend to have far more flavor - and even better, because you can control the amount of leaf, you can control the flavor much better!
@@trout3685 If you are using green tea, let the water cool down for a few minutes before adding. If you add the water while it is boiling, it will burn the tea.
damn, i'm from china and i still learned a lot from this video, it's straight forward without any magical or spiritual bullshit you usually get from a tutorial in china, all i want to know is the meaning and purpose of each step, and this video is just spot on
+houston34 Exactly. The Chinese always try to make everything profound and deep and cultural, while maybe that really is the case, we just need a simple instrution to enjoy a good cup of tea(and other arts).
You have opened my heart and mind to the beauty of tea. Since discovering your site I no longer drink coffee, soda, or other awful tasting stuff. My day begins at 5am with Matcha and meditation. Then a hearty Scottish tea around 8am, at 10am a break for green or white tea, lunch at 1pm and maybe (hold your ears some iced tea) around 4pm green tea again maybe with Jasmine flowers another break & meditation then a light fruit tea before bed. I am a much happier soul Thank you.
Either to brew tea in the Western manner or Chinese tea ceremony manner, should always first to rinse the pot and cups with warm water, then pour the tea leaves in for further brewing. When using the smelling cup, actually it is time to practice the breathing techniques. It is a beautiful mediation process with the different note of nature aroma.
green tea, you need to put green tea bag in hot water not more than 3 minitues. if you put longer , then bitter, try best tea from Sri Lanka. ceylon tea www.ceylonteabrew.com
My ears perked up when I heard tea pet.. no idea what one was, but knew instinctively I would adore it! Delightful! I'll be collecting these for the rest of my life now, thanks. 😊
I love tea so much, cannot believe I didn't start getting into it until my 20's. Changing my entire lifestyle and health around, actually in the process of curing my acne! This has been a 13 hear struggle and o finally found the key. Your microbiome is everything! Tea is fantastic for supporting that.
This is the best education on the Internet and 11 years old. Exactly what I was looking for since I almost gave up on loose bitter tea, and I wasted a lot of 2nd and 3rd cups!
Today I ordered from you for the first time (I'm brand new to high quality leaf teas)......... I would never have had the information needed to take this first step without watching dozens of your terrific videos over the last few weeks! Thanks so much for truly informative videos that make sense :)
Just wanted to say thank you. I love tea but had no idea how to properly make it. Boiled water, tea bags, left the bag in the cup etc. Made my first cup of tea the traditional way and was impressed. The first thing my wife said was, "wow, this tastes way less bitter".
IT'S BITTER BECAUSE YOU BREWED IT FOR TOO LONG!😡 THE REASON THERE ARE SPECIFIED BREWING TIMES ON TEABAG SETS IS BECAUSE IF YOU LEAVE THE TEA IN THERE FOR TOO LONG IT GOES BITTER!
Loose leaf tea is easy to brew. I have a kettle that has a little cup that holds the leaves and an extra strainer that strains it further as I pour. The cup inside the kettle is big so you don't get the blockage problem mentioned with the metal tea balls.
Greetings from Germany, This video was my primer to good tea brewing. I always loved the calm setting and detail of the information. I show this video to anyone who enjoys tea. If I ever come to London (one day I will), I'd be happy to visit your store.
thank you for replying. the sencha I'm drinking is from the seogwang tea garden. It has almost no gras flavors (unlike the common japanese senchas I know) and is fruity and mellow.
I'm watching this after I've learned so many amazing things by Mei Leaf, and now I can 'fully' understand what's being said in this video verses the first time. I've always appreciated your educations. Thanks.
This video was very high-quality and very informative! It's so well-shot and well-spoken that the time just flies by, and I appreciate how the information given is very clear and precise, not to mention kept as objective as possible!
WOW! I have been educated! Even after living in several countries where this is an important way of Life, I never understood it as I do now. Gonna try out the process now. Thanks for the wonderful explanation!
I bought an really expensive oolong in San Francisco. I haven't opened it, because I know this whole time I've been brewing tea very wrong, so I wanted to enjoy the tea proper way. This is very informative.
Learned to brew tea from my moroccan friend they have a big tea culture . They wash the tea with boiling water first because of sand and then brew it again to drink it and it also helps with other teas and since i do that everyone that comes over wants loose leave tea. Oolong, green jasmine tea and black lychee tea are my favorites
I loved this, as I am just beginning to learn about tea and the processes. I love tea but would just use the convenience (or so I thought) of the ugly "tea dust" bags! I am no longer using this and as of tomorrow, shopping for my first "real grown up" tea accessories and cannot wait to have a tea ceremony with my family. Thank you and great video!!!!
I'm so glad I watched this before my tea set arrived. I got a brick of tea for Christmas and wanted something special to brew it in. I have only ever brewed western style before. Bullet dodged. 27:27 Man took 30 seconds for a 10 second brew.
I FINALLY FOUND THE RIGHT CHANNEL. I want to learn how to blend teas and work with tea in general. I want to open my own metaphysical shop where besides magickal objects, herbs, and crystals, I will sell my own blends of tea.
Oowh, I’m excited! 😮😁😍🙌🏼 I just watched a video that Celine did on removal of stains and now I’m committing myself to learning about tea; your voice is ALSO pretty ASMRish, Don. I’mma be HOOKED in this marvellous shenanigans, I know it! 😃😬😂🤗👍🏼👌🏼 Cheers, beaut 😘
Hey brother I’m in north Brisbane and starting a tea company to help fight the cancer rate in Australia and make people more aware of food and mood, medicines like herbs, herbal tea. I love your videos it all makes sense to me as I’m a chef by trade and it’s similar to making a good stock or soup, pho kind of. Quality first
Hello. I just discovered your channel and i want to tell you something : very, very rare i've seen such an accurate description, full of fantastic information with a very beautiful narration. I'm not a pro so for me is so useful . Congratulation & Thank You very much.
I thought this was a great informative video, especially the first half. I agree that the tea bag material that seeps in the drink eventually becomes toxic after frequent usage. I also want to stress from experience that green tea simply can't be brewed at boiling (~210) without being bitter and ruined; I put a thermometer in the kettle and take it off before it reaches a maximum of 175 degrees.
Thanks for the run through!! I am such a newbie to this special way of doing it, but already love the respect and care being taken in this method. I can’t wait for my aged White Peony to arrive!! 😀😁🇦🇺
Man I truly express my gratitude for sharing your knowledge although I hate to admit it but i'm somewhat of a cheater because rather than using the methods which you have demonstrated I just use my coffee maker which has a tea setting which allows the tea to steep in the hot water for some minutes perhaps no longer than two or three minutes so as to allow flavor to be infused
I really thank you for all your videos! I am now working as a sourcing and buying manager in the promotional gift industry but my dream is to get a job in tea sourcing. With all those videos I learn a lot everyday from your videos. Your explanation are very clear, concise, professionally explained. I love it. Thank you again so much!! :)
WOWOW you just opened me up to a whole new world of tea. I must say I thank you very much. This has to be the thing that I always felt was missing when I was drinking western style teas
been slowly wanting to learn more about tea after over a year or two of my expanding love for a good cup of tea.... so glad I found your channel..... (Alex brought me here ;-P)
Excellent video! So informative! I’ve learned a lot, I had no idea. I also didn’t know about the cups with built in infuser, that’s great. I’m going to look for one. Thanks for sharing this video.
One I came across was "Plastic Teabags Release Billions of Microparticles and Nanoparticles into Tea" by Hernandez, et al. (Environ. Sci. Technol. 2019, 53, 21, 12300-12310)
Once again, I would like to leave a strong comment. These videos are excellent. Don is an extraordinary personality that brings the tea culture the warmth and welcoming it truly deserves. I have never purchased tea from you, but will take a leap and check it out. I have been watching several of your videos today and will continue to do so. Great job!! A+++
Fantastic! One wants to start translating in order to bring the word about proper tea to your fellow neighbour to enjoy. Who would've thought that a tea ceremony can be so straightforward and simple? And I saw one of those decanters in a, where I stock up on tea. Marvelous, as always!
