Join us as we race around the oval track in Street Stocks for iRacing. We'll cover a couple of tips as we turn left and you'll see how the phrase "slow is fast" really comes into play for getting that D license.
I remember what my father told me when I started racing 1/4 midgets: Go out there, stick to your line, stay out of everyone's way, bring the car back in one piece and most importantly have fun. Same thing applies to IRacing. Over time you will get quicker as you gain more experience. You have to learn to lose before you can learn to win.
Lufex my dad taught me the same thing, I started in a street stock class, at about mid season he started letting me run and pass, but for the most part it was just go out stay out of the way and just run your own race! in a 22 car field over the season, I finished 7th in points and took home Rookie of the Year! Lessons Learned were: 1) Consistency Counts 2) Sometimes you can go a little faster by going a little slower!
I have spent the last 12 months building my rig its pretty cool and cost way way to much so three days ago i got iracing my first sim ive just been running test for the last three days and have been really edgy about my first race, thanks for this video i think tomorrow may be the day nice and easy. Has to be the trick. Thanks again mate took away a lot of apprehension.
Got my D following your advice nice clean fastish laps took around 9 time trials no accidents avg between .06 and .09 per session took 3 days i know the track real well now and because of the 400+ laps my times are up there at the front end of d races anyway. Cheers
I do recall, getting out of the rookie class was particularly difficult. I now have a Class A in both Oval and Dirt Oval, but i did exactly this at first, but the speed does come eventually as well as keeping it clean. Also, to clarify, you gain more safety rating when you pass or are passed by other cars, for instance, i did a 50 lapper at Charlotte in Class B XFINITY Series, bad pit strategy pushed me from 3rd to 15th. I worked my way back to 5th with no incidents and I gained 0.89 safety rating points, earning me my class A in the process. Once you upgrade your license, avoid anything below a C class! you can lose your license and rookie and D class races are demolition derbies!
getting ready to buy equipment and start racing, thanks for the great video, it helped me put some of my questions into perspective, can't wait to see your next video
One difference I would make is that if you have to pit in the 2nd half of a rookie race, the pace you gain from a new set of tires will more than make up for the time lost putting them on. You're already paying for the time on pit road, might as well get new rubber.
Really need to get another wheel and get back into IRacing. I was told when first starting several years ago, especially in the beginning, race the track and not the driver. Saw a lot of attrition races and did fairly well
Noah C I’m still not sure what “simcade” means. The cars don’t feel 100% as heavy as the ones in iR, but I can’t really see any reason to have a different classification. And the cars in iR are just as tail-happy as their counterparts in PC2.
The best way to enjoy this sim is to immediately turn off all forms of chat. Voice and text etc. This sim is awesome but good god is the player base toxic and hostile. It’s best to ignore them.
Just FYI, dont know if you noticed or not, but your gas didnt calibrate fully, so you werent getting full 100% throttle. Other than that, good video again!
I am a amateur road racer, got out of rookie road race quickly. Trying to get out of oval rookie, it’s impossible, always get crashed out even when I avoid people. Usually get to top 5 just driving conservatively, then get crashed out by crazy backmarkers.
I used to hate the road courses when Nascar ran them. But after racing for years I started to like them more than ovals because you have a better chance of guys making mistakes multiple times per lap instead of twice per lap
Safety rating counts all the way until all of the cars cross the finish line so you can continue to safely run after the race and maximize your safety rating gains
This video is old, so im not expecting a reply, but what do wins do towards my liscense promotion? Im Class D Oval with a 2.79 safety rating and recently got my first win.
FeaR Clippz As I understand it, wins don't affect license progression. License is purely about Safety Rating and SR is determined by ratio of corners to incidents. If you keep an average of better than 33.8 corners per incident point (Class D 4.0) for a while that'll get you instabumped to Class C. Or if you are above 22.5 corners per incident (Class D 3.0) at the end of the season you'll get an end of season promotion. (SR tracks your last few races only and the most recent ones are weighted to count more than the somewhat less recent ones). (and there is a minimum participation requirement for promotion too)
I’m gonna invest in a wheel here soon but my irl car needs fixed first so controller for me but will say first races I ranked hard my sr got down to 2 but now it’s slowly going up gonna stay rookie till I get wheel
Michael Proper There are two possible ways to avoid this. Either you qualify in the first places, or back off to let everyone pass at the first lap. It may sound counterintuitive and anticlimactic, but really all you need is to get out of rookies so that you can start working on your SR and IR. Then and only then, you will be able to have good racing consistently
Excellent video I just got into sim racing and alot of the videos I've found are not very helpful. Is there a way to change your number so that it's not giving me diff numbers all the time?
@@Towing417 iRacing requires you to have a lot of dedication, and willingness to spend ass loads of money for content that you still have to pay $110 per year to retain access to. It's a great racing sim, but the majority of the content I have isn't being used in hardly any official races, instead I now have to purchase whatever car or track is being used in that series. I remember having to do the same Mazda MX5 race 5 times before I finally got to Class D license, and still, the majority of those races are off limits to me.
My very first ovaal drive can't understand how people race these fuckers , it's so hard to keep the damn truck 10 laps on the track alone without a crash , well fun doh :)
When you calibrate your gas pedal stop calibrating the pedal when it still has just a little bit of travel left. That way you guarantee that you are getting full throttle. Dont do the brakes that way or you will lock up prematurely
i havent seen the whole video yet but if i am bump drafting or rubbing doors does that count as contact? like will it bring my rating down. i dont have the game yet but i am getting it soon
"light" contact will bring up the incident point hud element, but it won't count towards your 17 infractions. It's known as a "0x", and bump drafting is a perfect example of one.
@@thedankestdingotv7094 Right On! That makes me feel better. I am still trying to get internet at my house other than Satellite. I am trying to get enough people in my area to show interest into cable so we can get Spectrum to run the cable down my road. Cable internet is almost exactly 1/2 mile from my house at my daughters little christian school.
because it's a short race and no cautions, the only thing you'd want to do is run a clean as you can. take care of the tires so you can stay comfortable at the end of the race... too many jokers try to win in the first 10 laps and burn their RF up and then can't enter the turns worth squat by lap 15.
It’s honestly more dangerous for you to let that guy come back and battle with you at the end of the race rather than just racing hard and trying to hold position
Im guessing because the system has no way of judging if someone else is griefing you, like slamming the brakes or trying to make you hit them to penalize you.
If i am correct there are no flags in the rookie class or class D because of how many yellows there would be. I know there are flags in Class C or highee
Eveolution The system automatically penalises both (all) parties in any incident however if someone is intentionally wrecking you can lodge a protest which will then be assessed by iracing staff.
