The 18-foot 7-inch Guider is a rugged, fast, rowing-sailing boat. It was developed for veteran adventurer John Guider to sail in the 2019 Race to Alaska, and for off-the-grid adventuring.
More info here: www.clcboats.com/shop/boats/p...
The interior includes lots of built-in storage and flotation (there are 12 watertight compartments in all), and a small footwell. The pivoting centerboard is cut from aluminum plate, and lead ballast is carried in the bilges. There's plenty of room for two adults to sleep in the 6'6" long cockpit.
The Guider is built from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit. Construction is intended for builders who are comfortable with stitch-and-glue boatbuilding, epoxy, and fiberglass.

She is so fast and looks so good. Some boats just look right. This is one of those. Thumbs up.

Thats a machine! Good bow design, it rizes slightly when accelerating and realy lets the water go at the stern. Most modern boats tend to dig in with weather helm. And eye candy too, love it!

Beautiful! I know it doesn’t matter, but I always imagine the chase boat shooting the video is a Peeler Skiff. Thanks for all your inspiration!

Beautiful. A great advert for the balanced lug rig. Simple, efficient, fast and fun.

Brilliant hull lines with very little quarter-wave - the sheer is sheer joy. Rig looks serviceable without a fiddly jib. Would be a wonderful platform for an instantly reefable Junk Rig of the same sail area. Not sure how it would do as a camping boat but congratulations to the designer/builder.

I did a great circle in a 13' fiberglass sailing dingy (Ghost 13) with oars. My 9 month trip started in Cautersville, MO and went down the MS river to the Atchafalya Rive, to the Gulf Inter-coastal, around FL to the Atlantic Inter-coastal, to the Hudson river, to the Erie canal, 100 miles along the Erie south shore, portage 40 miles to the Allegheny river, to the Ohio river and finally to the start on the MS river. Wished I'd had a boat that rowed a little better, but a boat light enough (165 lb hull) to beach easily was a real plus. You often had to drag the boat high enough up the beach due to tides and ship wakes. A sailing/rowing boat like this would be ideal,but it is probably a little big for a singlehanded trip.Beautiful boat, looks like it sails very well in light air.

Hum, that is why am here... Did you blog or have any pictures posted? I am intrigued by doing the loop in a small wooden boat. The part about going against the current on the Ohio river concerns me.

Nice boat! Will be interesting to see how comfortable sleeping on the raised platform is. I'd like to see the boom tent too. I'm not a fan of Bruce Anchors however. They drag in hard mud.

wow, that looks fun. my only thought is, seems like a lot of rig to be unstayed

How's she row? The reefed lug rig seemed to wallow a bit running. Quite quick on a reach. Good, stable wave form in that breeze. Nice double ender.

Great Looking Small Craft! Oddly, I'm hearing zero sound on this video. Other CLC videos have sound.

Why the change from his outboard rudder to what looks to be an inboard setup? Seems like the outboard rudder would be much easier to fix and maintain. Great looking boat.

The trunk-rudder is more complex, to be sure. But it's more efficient, and convenient to retract and maintain from the safety of the cockpit.

Novice here, and a little confused. The entire video, as far as I can tell, this boat was on starboard tack. What happens with the boom when on port tack? Does it just rest against the mast?
@ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats
@ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats 4 года назад
Good question. Just coincidence no port tack footage made it into this one. But yes, it just rests against the mast. Loads of still photos here: www.clcboats.com/shop/boats/pro-kits/guider.html
