love how the gun devil is treated as like a natural disaster. not a person, not a being, just nature. and the list of names- it all seems so perfect, impactful. seeing aki hayikawas name on that list too, hit hard man. made us realize aki's just another casualty. no different from the other 1.2 million killed
The names are way more impactiful because you see each life the gun devil took as an individual wheter than a number, it wouldn't beas impactful if it was only thw number of deaths
aki's name also puts something really depressing into perspective. his entire life, he'd been fighting to eventually find and kill the gun devil, and yet, even if he was never put under makima's control, he would've been killed in an instant.
the most scary thing about the gun devil its the fact that they didn't just show the aftermath of his actions but they showed you its actions in real time in 8 seconds the gun devil destroyed a whole city
@@intercontinentalballisticben probably some people sacrificed themselves and summoned the hell devil to summon the death Devil which on the vicinity of the ability activation of all 683,037 dead people within 25 kilometers confirmed and used them to kill the gun
@@airplanes_aren.t_real yes there is still another 80% and the multi building destruction level aki 47 that was fighting denji was the 20% power but weakened
that was SUCH a good interpretation, the way you implemented the list of names made my stomach drop even harder than it did in the source material. You've got something very special here.
I never thought of the gun devil as scary even though I understood that it was an overwhelming evil in the manga only after watching this vid did I understand how scary this character really was keep up the god tier work it's amazing 😍
I've never watched, but from what I heard it manifested for maybe 5min total, hit several places for only a couple seconds each, and killed several thousand in each place it landed. To experience it would be like experiencing the end of the world, as each person attacked appeared to be random, you could be completely unharmed but the person you were talking to in front of you is now missing their head. It could cause devastation like how it tore of a street with gun fire, tossed cars and leveled buildings, or it could be so accurate that other then a small bullet hole there would be no damage, as also happened several times. It moved and struck so quickly you might not have even seen it, it's range so great people were being shot from well beyond their visual range, from the other side of their country. It wouldn't matter where you were when it attacked, if you were inside a military bunker it would still have shot you, there was no defense to protect you. It would have been a living nightmare.
@@Doflaminguard Thats why I said "appeared random" because you can bet at the time no one knew what was happening or why people were being killed while others weren't.
I love this. I hope MAPPA takes inspiration from this and Vitotcher's great interprations of how this scene might look animated. The power of seeing the actual text and names of the victims on screen is huge.
This is an amazing production. Admittedly, I feel that re-capturing the true fear the Gun Devil inspires when you see it in action for the first time is very difficult, and so while I did not feel that same dread, the technical prowess, scene design and cinemtography were all top notch. I appreciate this for the fact that it is objectively fantastic
The visuals, the sound design, the way the gun devil's rampage is portrayed as an event that went from 0 to 100 real fucking quick, it all comes together and the end result is (albeit pretty disturbing) a really well done interpretation of the manga, in my honest opinion, it's not a stretch to call this a 10/10
Man I love how MAPPA is getting constantly challenged to do better by talented anime fans. First Kane Pixel’s Attack on Titan, now this! Absolutely phenomenal and inspirational.
I really liked the captions being displayed in typewriter's style, that was exactly how I imagined it to be when reading the manga And the door scene at the end was really well made too, actually conveyed the confusing and creepy setting from the manga
This scene in the manga has a really distinct horror sense to it, just the weight of whats happening makes you want to puke. You gave that motion with perfect accuracy. Mappa should use this as a skeleton for the anime
The irony is that despite the horror, brutality, and cataclysmic proportions of the Gun Devil, he can still only be summed up as : "He is one of THE devils of all time!"
Chainsaw man goes weirdly well with analog horror type directing. Maybe because of how surreal it already is lmao. Kudos to you either way. This was awesome
This was legitimately bone-chilling. I don't know how else to say this, but your a legend. You captured chainsaw man so well in this, it might be even better than the Manga in presentation. That's something I never say about ANYTHING related to chainsawman.
The thing that gets me about this whole sequence is how clinical it is. A mass shooting that kills one of the main characters offscreen without a thought is just presented as a second by second account of events, like a police report. There's nothing anyone can do, it's all in the past. And you got that helplessness in here perfectly.
Everyone always says they're so excited to see this scene animated, and while it's definitely an impactful and well written one, it's so gruesome even compared to other elements of Chainsaw Man. In some ways I don't want to see it animated any more than this rendition. It only showed what it needed to convey the horror and slaughter of the gun devil and didn't overdo it at risk of dulling the message. Enough is left to the imagination to fill in the gaps where more fear exists, and encapsulates an extreme tradgedy that no one should ever have to witness.
i can only hope the actual anime makes the Gun Devil arc even close to this terrifying it's been a pretty solid adaptation so far, and this sequence is still, like... at least 2 seasons away, give or take, idk the exact chapter-to-episode pace they're at this is just one of my favorite manga scenes ever created, and downright scarring, and I hope that Mappa doesn't just suddenly drop the ball past season 1 each 22 minute episode has been near film quality animation, and i hope it stays consistent, i'm pumped to see the Katana Man, Bomb Girl and International Assassins arcs that last one in particular bc I wanna see how they get away with Quanxi's introduction, y'know... literally butt-naked and fucking her Fiend harem and also how they adapt the Darkness Devil bending the manga's page layouts to its whim, and dividing panels with the characters' _severed arms_ they could always go full FLCL (one of Fujimoto's big inspirations for CSM) and make that sequence as a proper motion comic, both to save costs and to give it that extra otherworldly and off-putting feeling, like, "this isn't how this is supposed to look, wtf" gaaah, the anime is so good and there's so much i can't wait to see adapted
Bro this scene is just a masterpiece. Listing every name makes it feel so crazy, it feels like an actual death of a person instead of just a bunch of people. From that- to the intermittent cuts of people just living life, only to get massacred by the gun devil. The true terror of the gun devil is a sight to behold and this animation truly encapsulates the horror of this beast.
Originally, I saw the red, bold text used for saying "Gun devil", and "12 second". I thought, "Why the red text makes it so boring to watch omfg..." But when the names of all the dead people flashed, I would be lying if I said my pants are clean.
I hope Mappa see's this vid and uses it for inspiration. The red names being listed fast with those sound affects really puts to justice as too how powerful and how scary the gun devil should be interpreted as.
I am so enthralled with this scene. How easy to grasp counting to 12 seconds is, it's such a short time. Then realizing how much harder to grasp counting the names that are flashed in those panels in Chainsawman
Love how this made me feel genuinely scared about what was happening ... Idk if chainsaw man will continue to have a horror aspect (that's the vibe I got from episode 1) and I'm sure the horror will be great with the darkness devil but I'm hoping they incorporate something like this for this part in the anime
the way the names of the victims flashed on screen was so strikingly jarring, it really made the scene feel a lot more disturbing and i hope the anime executes this scene in the same way
I think it works a lot less than the sheer amount of names you see in the manga, all placed in this very mechanical manner, just like how the gun devil kills.
This is PHENOMENAL, the lighting and effects and perspective, THE ARTWORK?? The audio?? The visuals and all the amazing little details melt together so well, as the horrific tales of the gun demon arise to live in the backs of our minds, reminding that it is impending doom.
The worst thing is this is just 20% of the Gun Devil's body, now imagine the full body. If the Gun Devil is this strong, then what about the primal, instinctual fears?
