From tv tropes In 2010, a group of forty train robbers stormed a train in West Bengal and started taking valuables from the passengers. One of the train's passengers was a man called Bishnu Shrestha, a small and fairly mild-mannered man who calmly cooperated. One of the robbers then decided to rape one of the women on the train. And Bishnu, a corporal in the 8th Gurkha Infantry, objected. Sternly. Shortly after, several robbers were dead via surgically applied kukri, and the rest were running for their lives.

You touched in on this dude in the Clarkson doc on the VC, he was attending the anniversary ceremony with the rest of the surviving VC recipients - a few pews of men with more medals across their chests, than anyone should have to earn.

The most VCs awarded for a single action is the battle of Rork's Drift in South Africa. About 120 British soldiers against 4,000 Zulu. The year was 1879. The 1964 film 'Zulu' relates this incident and is fairly accurate. I have an ancestor that was there and survived.

when we done cadets at school we were told to lace up our boots in a certain way, this is so that at night the gurkha's would sneak up behind an enemy and feel the laces of their boots, if the laces wernt tied in a certain manner then its feeding time for the gurkha's. we made sure we tied our fucking boots as instructed.

Quartered safe out here by George Macdonald Fraser is about the author's experience fighting in Burma alongside the Gurkhas. A wonderful book and easy read. A memorable part is when their unit has to go into the jungle to root out the Japanese and the Nepalese lay down their guns and unsheath their razor sharp kukris and advance with stealth....well worth a read.

I've known about Gurkha's since the 70's as a kid just know history, when history was not polluted like today. They are fearless, there is a very strict training requirement, but you first have to qualify and villages, and young men, train just to try and qualify. If you don't qualify they take it very hard. I don't understand why the Brits don't let the ones that fail the requirement set up a different unit, pay them (this is a poor region, and they need this money), and train them even if it's at the end a different role not as elite.

The reason Nepali soldiers serve in the British Army? They fought said British Army to a standstill. Ever heard the expression 'if you can't beat em, join em'? Even better, get them to join you. My father served with the RAF in Burma. He said the only time they felt safe was when they knew the Gurkhas were patrolling the airfield, no bugger was getting through. As an aside, apparently he slept with one eye open for six months after the war ended. Our generation couldn't lick their boots.

The Victoria Cross is not only awarded to soldiers of the British empire and Commonwealth nations. In WWII, Danish Anders Lassen was the one and only soldier from a non Commonwealth nation, to be awarded the Victoria Cross. So, it has happened. Anders Lassen is depicted in the new Guy Richie movie, "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" (2024). He runs around like a wild viking, killing na*is with a bow and arrows. Which actually didn't happen, but hey, it's not a Guy Richie movie for nothing.

Dude. Friendly advise. Please stop doing these "teaser" stuff that will drop in 3+ days. My gf and I have supported you since you split off your own channel but just... Drop your videos when you are ready. A lot of people (including us) like watching what is new today. Not click on some link and it says it will be available 4 days from now. I get it, do it for something like Battle 360 which will be 1+ hours long. But the story about Guarkas... You're just abusing it man. Just release the video when you are ready. Please know your audience and how much you have. You're not CBS announcing a new episode of NCIS in 4 days 10 years ago (yes that's how old we are). We love your content, and we prefer to see the shorter videos as they drop.
