And they do it like it is simple. much respect to the Gurkha's and their beautiful and humble culture. May I correct your comment, they were employed by the British army, so it's fellow British you should have been saying, and not English, My uncle Tam was in Burma as a Chindit, one night one of these ferocious little devils woke him and gestured him to follow the little chap, into the jungle they crept, there in a small clearing were 5 Jap's laying with throats cut and an officer tied up and unconscious, my uncle asked in a whisper why leave him, to which the Gurkha replied, " A'h sargent when he wake up and see his men he get the same". There always was a bounty on them from the Jap's, but very few locals stayed alive to collect if they were found to be informants. My uncle was awarded many medals, a proud Scot like many others, as the Irish, Welsh, and all those from commonwealth countries like, India, Pacific islanders, etc, etc, you English people did not win either the 1st or 2nd world wars, no that was the Americans,if the Americans had not entered either of those wars, you and I would be using German as our first language, look at how the Bengal Lancers were sent in against the German machine guns in the 1st world war, and the African nations too, read history first please before you spout on about your England...O'h and find out please from where St George is really from before you fly that flag.

My father was in the 1st Ranger Squadron, New Zealand's first SAS squad that went into action. During his SAS career, he specialized in signals, he met and mixed with all the world's country's Special Service and Ops teams and members. Green Berets etc you name it he served alongside them although a lot of dads time was spent behind enemy lines for up to six months at a time, at his funeral his mate said that Dad (Barry) was in his opinion the very best guy to spend 6 months behind enemy lines with, signals were pretty basic and in need of modernizing at that time so apparently the humidity of the jungle featured in buggering up their machines, but they improvised a solution the speaker stated. Dad considered the very best of the best to be the GURKHA soldiers. They were playful smiling assassins and were forever up to mischief with the forces they were in camp with. He laughed that one of their fave ways of 'Having you on' as we call it Downunder, Punking in the USA, and I believe in the UK it is possibly called 'Taking the Piss.' Whatever you call it one of their faves was to tie the shoelaces of the guys on sentry duty and burst into laughter when the unfortunate sentry stumbled as he tried to take a step. Small of stature, and YUGE in the bravery department. It is a popular misconception that a Gurkha knife the KUKRI can only be drawn to cause damage and death and must be accompanied by bloodletting, so if you ask to see his KUKRI he must draw blood from your arm as the price of looking, total BS.

Only a ten pound a month hand out yet the man fought in WW2. That's shameful. It seems some of these men were taken advantage of due to the miserable poverty in their countries. England should & can do more for these men & their families who continue to bravely fight & die for Queen & country. These men, especially those who fought in WWII deserve to be free from want. They've earned that right.

I lived in Fleet, Hampshire, around 1990 and that's where the Gurkhas UK barracks are. I often found myself at somewhere like a supermarket queue with Gurkhas, and their families, and was impressed by the politeness and humility of these tough little guys. I was also in Pokhara, Napal, at that time and came across an ex Gurkha who had used his (very meagre) British army pension to set himself up as a mobile pharmacy, using a bicycle. The question of pension and UK citizenship rights have been a bone of contention for many years but without investigating I believe that situation has improved.

There's a saying in nepali "nun ko sojho garnu", it means "nun" is salt, salt represents curry, curry represents food.. "sojho" means favour,.. "garnu" means "do it" ,. this gives a simple meaning that whoever gives a job, you have to be faithful to him. it's an old kind of blessing given by mothers to their child, and gurkha follows that....if he is a soldier and there's a war, he does'nt think twice.

He was shot multiple times but after the war doctors couldn’t find one bullet and years after the war that bullet came out of a boil he got and that bullet is in a museum in Lucknow known as ganju bullet.

I lived on the married patch next to Queen Elizabeth's Barracks. Now sadly a housing Est. The Major is very passed over and most of the Officers who end up with The Gurkha Rifles usually are. As for the young men what a pleasure to have them in Fleet. Now things have moved on many of these young men may be drawing their pensions. Joanna Lumley caused chaos and had the rules changed to let former men from 1997 come live in Britain. Great but many were conned in their home Country and came to the UL penniless some seven thousand now in Aldershot where housing is scarce. That means many live in bed and breakfast accommodation. Living on benefits. Many walk around the local towns waiting for they can return to home. However, the Community is fabulous and now at the local hospital we are delighted to benefit from the skills that the trained nurses bring, so much so many wards are named after places in Nepal. Also, many have local security jobs and their kindness shines through.

There a few gurkhas that went for selection in the SAS.And passed I wouldn't say easier than the brits but showed no fear of death.Where we would give it a 2nd thought and think we might die doing this. The gurkhas just done it without thinking and one or two of the gurkhas used to say what will be will be our death is your life. And I found that pretty amazing and they are the best of the best. And I am bloody glad there on our side and not our enemy....

I am ashamed how senior British officials have treated these magnificent soldiers. Residency ,pay , disability, pensions. They should bloody well get up that mountain and pay them quadruple with humble gratitude instead of making senior gentlemen trek / be carried down a mountain. I would happily live with them and welcome them into my home if required. God bless these inspirational Gentlemen and ladies.

My late mother was a rubber tapper during d emergency years in Malaya in 1948. She would tap n collect d latex all on her own . I remember many trees. She would start to tap in d early morning when it was still very dark. My mother n many folks like her who had to tap rubber to feed their families, were always in great fear of communist guerillas out to extort or harm them. Women always feared being raped. She said working alone, it always gave her d greatest sense of safety n security when she saw a slight gurkha soldier with his gun patrolling or standing there. She said she was always confident she would be protected n that he would be an honourable man.

I saw a film in college about the WW2 Ghurkas and their terrifyingly yell while drawing their razor-sharp kukri AND holding that rifle. Terrifyingly good with both at the same time. One of the ROTC boys who had done the Marines boot camp stated aloud "holy crap, no wonder the Japanese fellows were freaking scared of them! I AM afraid of them and that's just a movie!"

I brought a Honduran girl here to America. We were married only a short time. After she got a job as a check-out girl, she sent all the money she didn't use to her mother in Honduras. Never paid a utility bill. I gave her my 280 zx and bought a pickup truck. The millions of Cubans we have here in South Florida send millions of their dollars back to cuba. This money is the reason cuba exists. Every immigrant doe's this same thing.
