@@daltonpavesi3009 Working on one of your favorite games in the world, being able to experience it before anyone else... That's not work, that's life, half-life.
Valve is the only company which I can only believe it if I see it. There is no guessing with them, their standard of quality is beyond prediction, perfection takes time
Its also best with Valve to just get surprised, I always end up disappointed if I was anticipating an update/game but when they just release something without anyone knowing beforehand it tends to be pretty great. I am still baffled how quickly and casually they just announced and released the best VR game with Alyx for example.
@@alyxbabineaux2412If you’re talking about Half life alyx, no, no we didn’t. HL Alyx is based between the events of HL1 & HL2, so how could it be anything to do with 3? The true fans didn’t want a silly VR. The old true fans wanted a game which was true to its originals.
A perfect 20th Anniversary Update for me would include: -The merging of Half-Life 2, Episode One & Episode Two into one seamless experience. -The restoration of cut maps, scenes and NPCs where it would fit into the current Half-Life 2 experience. (Particularly those that Valve originally wanted in but cut due to performance & hardware limitations at the time, such as the more visually spectacular citadel destruction scene that was recently datamined) -The integration of Half-Life: Alyx story beats, to facililate those that didn't experience that game, plus any other story elements that could help set up the now strongly rumoured Half-Life 3. -Plenty of bug fixes. -Updated Half-Life 2: Deathmatch (playable with Bots for longevity purposes). -A digital release of Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar. (The out of print behind the scenes making of and artwork book.) -A new Valve documentary about the Half-Life 2 series.
they should keep ep one and two out of the main game if you dont already have them or just find another way idk (this reply used to say that they could also refund if people already have ep 1 and/or 2)
@@aaabe_T They earned hundreds of millions on the episodes in the 2 decades that they have been avalible, so there is no way they're going to give people refunds for that.
valve should make a trailer and announce half life 4 at the end to troll us all make the game skip a part and make part 4 all about teleporting etc and reveal everything in half life 3
7 hours is a couple of hours aeay from an average length of most early-mid 2000s linear shooters. You can complete Half-Life, no matter first or second, in 7 hours without using any speedrun strats, if you just push forward without pausing to fool around.
@@enricofermi3471 if only we were back in that era of gaming I think expections of playtime and gamers wanting 50 hour solo experiences destroyed that market of high production creative shorter experiences
Goddamnit can't have a *single* Half-Life 2 video where the guy doesn't go on a useless offtopic rant about "le beta". Valve is not gonna retcon the entire game to be like "le beta", get over it
New Documentary wouldnt make sense tbh, since we already have "Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar" What could happen tho, is they intend to merge HL2, Episode 1 and 2 into one game, so its only Half Life 2 and MAYBE (thats a big maybe), change the Ending of Episode 2, to represent the one from HL: Alyx, but highly unlikely.
If they change the ending to Episode 2 that would take away the impact from the ending to Alyx, I doubt they will do that. But then again they did change the ending to Portal before the sequel released so there is precedent
Honestly i'd love to see a Half Life 2 (Plus the episodes) remaster in the Source 2 engine, it could be great to imagine how Half Life 3 would feel like Doubt it's gonna happen but I can dream
What confuses me about this whole debacle is the fact that there are currently 3 different Half-Life 2 related projects in development as far as we know. Most people already know about Half-Life 2 RTX but I have personally been more excited about the Half-Life 2 Remastered Collection that came up 3 years ago. For those who don't remember this here's a informative video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K8NdSXiZbQI.html In short it's being developed by Fillip Victor (the person who created Half-Life 2 Update) and it's officially sanctioned by Valve. It's going to include remasters of Half-Life 2, Lost Coast & The Episodes running on the CS:GO branch of the Source engine. Alongside that It's going to ship with a 64-bit executable similar to that of TF2's and it's going to have Workshop support. What worries me is the fact that it's now been 3 years and there have been no news about this project. However judging by the info on this video I'd assume Valve could be doing something similar to the "Doom 1+2 Collection Upgrade" that Id, Nightdive and MachineGames did. What if this upcoming "Anniversary Update" is actually the Remastered Collection that would put all the games in a singular launcher?
for now the only thing i'm guessing is that we are gonna get what we already got with HL1: A documentary (maybe longer that will cover also the cut content), lots of bug fixes. At best some minor improvements to graphics, like higher res for lightmaps.
what people forget is HL3 was never a thing. we made that up. gabe always referred to the next installment to be HL2: Episode 3. this is probably episode 3. its actually happening..omg
I don't think a unified client for HL2, HL2DM, and the episodic games (LC,EP1,EP2) will ever be a thing, each one of them works very differently under the hood from the other. There are even definitions so that certain things only get enabled in the episodes, such as combine NPCs being slightly better with the AR2 in them, or allies not getting stressed in them.
installing Lost Coast and the Episodes places them directly in the file directory for vanilla HL2; they don't even get their own executables and you can load vanilla HL2 maps in the console while playing the Episodes and have a totally uncompromised experience. They don't sound that different from each other at all
I hope that they will update textures, make all HL2 games into one client, release proper level editor tools for Steam as a separate app like Portal 2/left4dead authoring tools, also include HL2 deathmatch into all this.
2:39 In my opinion (you may not agree), HL2 will be updated and improved and the Expansions (HL2 Deathmatch, Lost Coast & Episodes) will be placed in HL2 (In the same way as the Uplink in HL1). I believe this because Expansions should be in the main game for free without having to buy them, this didn't happen at a time when there was no Steam, where people bought CDs💿 of Expansions (You had to have the Game of the Year version of HL1 to play Uplink) and We are not in that era. Expansions use the base game and in some cases improvements occur. So yes, I believe in free base game expansions as something positive and also what caught my attention the most is that in 2021, Philip Victor (Responsible for the 2015 Half-Life 2 Update), received the Source Engine version of the old CSGO (which today is called CS2 and runs on Source 2), received the CSGO source code with the help of VALVe, the graphic quality was already beautiful and now it will be more beautiful, and what caught my attention was that the Expansions will have the same treatment (Half-Life 2 - Deathmatch will not be improved as it does not want an online server). The name of this pack will be called Half-Life 2 - Remastered Collection, HL2 and Expansions, using new features from CSGO (Which was the most beautiful game on the Source Engine). Now I ask you, don't you think Expansions will actually be in HL2? Agree or Disagree?
Can’t wait. I’ve played Half Life since Half Life 1, I’ve played nearly every major mod many of the more obscure mods. The latest anniversary update was great! This looks really exciting! ❤
I think the reason for the test branch being a couple months ahead of the 20th anniversary is for mod compatibility and other games that rely on HL2, kinda like how steam pipe broke some source engine mods
Similar to what they did for HL's 25th anniversary, it'd be great if they added Steam Networking support to Source Engine games that didn't have it as well like CS:S
whats sad is that hl2vr "vr" aspect could work with portal, but portal has a newer .dll file which adds portals functionality and the portalgun. because of that if you try to swap the file to implement vr aspects of hl2vr into portal, the portal gameplay gets overwritten and lost :(. If we could have the scripts and files and backed them up into the core .dll files inside the "bin" folder, we could have portalvr
If you need just a demo, there are Dark Interval and Raising the Bar Redux. Each offers a very high quality point if view on what Beta could have become if it got to the release stage. What we actually need is either some concrete HL3 info (at least a definitive "No" if they don't even plan to do it, or confirmation of the work in orogress if they do) or a complete Beta remaster, in the same vein Black Mesa did for HL1.
I hope that if there is a documentary for the 20th anniversary, they talk about the original story of the game in its entirety, maybe they could include data that was not known.
My bet it will be HL2, Ep1, Ep2 and Lost Coast merging together, with HL2 and Ep1 being updated to Ep2 version of the engine to boost the visuals slightly and make it more convenient fro the modders (so you could just install one game and put all the mods and configs into its one folder), maybe also merging HL2DM in and maybe bringing back some of the cut content, maybe adding RTX mod and some other stuff. Maybe even porting it to Source 2 - who knows...
I wonder if this is going to break Half-Life 2 Update, which is an updated version of vanilla Half-Life 2 that fixes some issues that were never addressed and updates the visuals to be on par with Episode 1 and 2.
They better add some easter-egg update in Portal 1, like add an extra radio for people to find the last new one if they put it in. Then have the radio play G-Man's song when they find the secret spot to play the new radio in.
The Combine Dropship’s machine gun used to be able to rotate to fire at the player, but it broke so you have to stand at a very specific place to get shot. It’d be cool to see it rotating again.
They could working on merging VR source 2 and normal source 2 so all future games, as well as some older games like HL2 and Alex, are both playable in VR and using a normal screen/kbd/mouse. I imagine many people have not played Alex due to not having VR so it's hard for them to make HL3 and continue the story when a percentage of their player base cant play Alex.
I hope that by the 20th anniversary of Half Life 2 they will update the game to a 64-bit version. They will replace the Havoc physics engine with VPhyic Jolt. And finally they will fix Gordon's game model, instead of that misunderstanding in the form of a statue with an outstretched hand...
they would have to make an entirely new model for Gordon if they were to fix it and i don't really see a point considering you never see his model anyway
@@slinkyonbreak4716 If you've played in third person, you'll know what I'm talking about. In addition, it will look very strange in multiplayer (game model without animations).
The HL1 Anniversary Update was incredible, if that was only made in a few days/weeks, imagine how good the Hl2 update will be if it will be taking months
I'm secretly hoping for a co-op mode. I know there is Synergy, but it's based on a much older build of HL2 most servers mess with the core gameplay too much.
Valve has been absolutely cooking. TF2 bot free, Deadlock is the first time I've really enjoyed a MOBA, possible new HL game and a possible HL2 update.
I don't really thinks it's possible, but it would be really cool if the change HL2: E2 ending so it becomes same with HL:A ending. I feel like it would break the fourth wall, because most of us played HL2: E2 back in day and remember it's ending, and all of the sudden changes in timeline from HL: A affects those events in original game. Sure, those changes would not be that good for those who never played HL2: E2 before and they will be locked out of original ending, so I don't think Valve will go that route, but still as an idea I think it's pretty cool ^_^
I'd love a visual overhaul of the game with HL:Alyx like fidelity models and textures, all up to player's choice though, normal map support etc. Source engine has come a long way. Little bit of visual update would do wonders for me tbh.
Glad to see there could be something being done to honor one of my favorite games! If there are any aliens that got left out 20 years ago, now would be a great time to put them in. New weapons would be a super bonus as well. More or new NPCs could be a nice touch as well, but that might be asking for a bit much. Give me satchel charges and trip mines!
I want all the stuff from the 2006 version that's missing in the modern one restored, from the lighting, physics system, foliage superior OG vortigaunt textures and especially the underwater ambience and realistic fire sprites source was famous for besides its water & physics. Source Engine fire since Episode 2 now looks like they just shone a light behind a bunch of orange flame shaped bits of silk by a dry ice machine and blew them in a fan. I also want Episode 1 to restore the Episode 2 post credits trailer (even when running the OG 2006 version as a sourcemod which has the video in the files, it won't play when it's meant to) and Episode 2 to show the original ending but have a playable post credits sequence where time rewinds and the Half Life Alyx ending takes over: Alyx gains the Gman's power briefly & kills the Advisor that kills Eli, Gordon passes out and Eli wakes him up as usual in the actual Alyx ending complete with his rant about Gman and D0G giving him his crowbar. And that's just the base games. I'd also want restored maps where it makes sense such as the longer train ride into City 17 as Mark intended it, Lost Coast or parts of City 17 we didn't see, plus an official Steam Release of both Dark Interval & Raising the Bar Redux set in universe as alternate timelines ala Marathon Infinity. Preferably also with the train ride from DI Old Build, DI's playable manhack arcade, Borealis part 2, Kraken Base & Weather Control (DI intends to cut all chapters between Air Exchange & Vertigo, having Gordon & Alyx board the plane to City 17 straight from AirEx, which is lame and introduces plotholes).
Im excited for the documentary, Half-Life is my favourite game series ever and HL2 is my favourite game ever. Maybe we'll even see some dark and griddy concept art we've never seen before...
