I cant carry a tune in a bucket full of holes I could fall through and I have always said if ONLY I could sing like Vestal...but I was never blessed with that ability. Songs and singing like this has been long gone but certainly never forgotten. I can sit all day long and listen to gospel songs today but they dont get me shaking and shivering and holding back the tears and feeling the Holy Spirit like these good old songs. GOD BLESS 'EM!!!!!
Never, never , never will this type of gospel singing be surpassed. Truly anointed. Now days, you rarely even hear a song written that can come close with comparing to the vast major of the songs back in the day.
Rock musicians, Country singers & musicians, singers and musicians from all different genres respect Vestal Goodman's talent and ability. When George Jones himself is a fan, you know you have something special! Then there's the spiritual side of this lady. She sings her heart out with tears streaming down her face and it becomes apparent that she's channeling a Spirit sweeter and greater than we could ever imagine. What a privilege to be the kind of channel she was...to be used by Him!
Vestal Goodman!...what a woman of God!..I love how she dressed all her life being in public!...very modest!...A great example to girls and women and how they all must be dressed!!!! God's way!!
Vestal Goodman could sing the phone book and I'd be right there listening with bells on. She's one of those rare singers who makes you feel every word. She was truly the Gospel world's equivalent of a George Jones or Frank Sinatra.
That is so sad that the annointed singers that touched my soul with Jesus. You are so right and God had his hand on Vestal and the family. i live less than 50 miles from her home iin Alabama. Knew people that use to have them over to eat. good times where had I am sure.
Vestal are now singing in heaven, also Jesse and all those lovely saints. Hoping to meet them there one day, they have done a great job here on earth They were a great blessings to us praised be to God.
I started watching the Gospel singing jubilee way back in the early 70's. Loved the Goodman's , Florida Boys, and the inspirations also the Henson's. Greatest memory I have on Sunday morning.
I've enjoyed the Happy Goodmans' since I was about 10 yrs. old as I remember listening to them in my grandmother's trailer when getting ready for Sunday school with my Grandpop. when they sang on Jubilee
@NOMADdaf It's a "Church of God" thing. The higher the hair, the holyer you are. You don't see it much anymore. It was real BIG back in the 60's and 70's
how can you be so anointed when you look like you are going to the prom or a wedding? Must be a 70's thing because there are clips of the HInsons with the same type of wardrobe? Though God has placed His anointing on more recent groups (The Crabb Family, the Perry's, etc), The Goodmans and the Hinsons are treasures that are missed and will never be replaced.
(Recitation to this song) When I picture heaven, and quite often I do, I may not think of things that mean the most to you; Like jasper walls, or gates of pearl, so beautiful to behold, Or mansions standing on streets of solid gold. No, that's not what appeals to me or fills my heart with bliss, For I've never had enough of these things to get me spoiled I guess; Now the human mind cannot comprehend the beauty there is to see, But this my friends, is really what heaven means to me. It's a place where night will have vanished away, And the ages of time will be one long glorious day; The weather will be perfect, and the food will be fine, And we'll never have to hurry, because we won't keep time. Up there in heaven we won't ever cry, There's no bills to pay and there's nothing to buy; There's no more sorry, and not one bit of sin; And the sting of death, Thank God, will never be felt again. And another thing that makes heaven so fair---, You see, my mom and my dad, they'll both be there; Looking so young and fair to see, Not old and wrinkled like they use to be. And I want to kiss mom and hear her whisper in my ear, I've been waiting for you son, I'm so glad that you're here; And I want to hear dad say, " son, there's no more fear, Why, we'll sit down by that river, and oh, maybe talk for a hundred years. Yes, I'd like for you to try to imagine if you can, Of seeing all the old saints and shaking their hands; Hearing the old stories of the things they once done, You know, I might just live next door to maybe James or John. But oh, the main thrill that awaits me when I get there, And that's to see Jesus, the One who died for me; Live in His presence throughout all eternity, And I'll just sing forever without a trouble or care, For this my friends is really what heaven means to me, I'd like to meet you there.
All of the music books I have with this song in it says the author is unknown. I don't think Rick wrote it, but then I may be wrong, but I don't think so.
1. A country where no twilight shadows deepen, Unending day where night shall never be. A city where no storm clouds ever gather, Now this is just what Heaven means to me. CHORUS: What will it be when we get over yonder And join the throng upon the glassy sea? To greet our loved ones and crown Christ forever, Oh, this is just what Heaven means to me. 2. And when at last we see the face of Jesus, Before whose image other loves all flee. And when they crown him Lord of all I'll be there, Now this is just what Heaven means to me. CHORUS: 3. A place where there is no misunderstanding, And from all enmity and strife we're free. No unkind words to wrong the heart are spoken, Now this is just what Heaven means to me.. CHORUS:
@iceman44sgm I dont think Rick Goodman wrote this song. I have sheet music and song books with it in there and it all says AUTHOR UNKNOW. I could be wrong about this but I dont think I am.
