The first and best of the HAPPY HOOKER film series. This was a light romp and successful at the box office in the spring and summer of 1975. Given the title, the movie threw off many viewers who were hoping for more pornographic material.. THE HAPPY HOOKER was anything but that. It was more a lighthearted comedy that chronicled the events in the best selling 1971 book by Xaviera Hollander. The films success is due to a wonderful performance by Lynn Redgrave and a host of New York theater actors. It also contained a nice breezy score by Don Elliott. As columnist Liz Smith wrote, "okay, you won't get turned on, but you'll laugh a lot".
