I think the hardest thing for me rn is feeling like my stuttering is holding me back. I’m at that point in life where I want to find a job or a career. But it’s so hard when I have such trouble speaking

That is a hard thing to deal with. Try not to let stuttering hold you back in life. It’s only a small part of you that’s makes you you. You’re not alone 🥰

The hardest for me is definitely losing the attention of the other person on what I'm saying as opposed to the way I'm saying it. Anybody with a stutter can perceive that someone is reacting to the stutter instead of the words that are spoken. The eyes go somewhere else, they feel uncomfortable to see you struggle and some even fight a laugh. I'm not blaming anyone that reacts this way, but for us trying to explain something or express an idea, it feels like your discourse is getting lost in the ineffectiveness of the vehicle trying to transmit it. It's like not being able to watch a movie because the resolution is too low or listening to a song because the sound quality is too bad. It's much easier for me to express myself in writing because of this. Thank god for text messages.

I want to thank you Minka! Ever since I discovered your videos I've been trying to not substitute words when I talk. I'm trying to just say what I want to say even if it means I'll stutter. I feel a little bit better about my stuttering and so again, thank you!

Lee Lovett’s WSSA program and amazing books like, Stop Stuttering Short Course: How to Break the Stuttering Code will help immensely for those who diligently immerse themselves in the authors method. If someone like me who never thought he could speak fluently again can do it then anybody can. Patience, persistence, and perseverance will go a long way.

I too am a person that has a speech problem. I hate trying to talk to strangers. I get nervous, and its really hard to say what i want to say. And the more frustrated i get, the harder it is to talk. I always end up apologizing, and trying again. Sometimes i can say what i want. It just depends on who i'm talking to. But i watch your videos, and others, and it helps to know that i'm not the only one that has this problem to deal with on a daily basis. So, thank you very much, and i will keep watching and learning how to deal with this.

I stumbled across this video and it's great to see fellow stutters making videos and expressing themselves. I agree it's no fun and frustrating, especially when the fluent listener is looking away or is un-conformable when I'm in a middle of a block, which makes it even worse for me.

Great video! The hardest thing about stuttering, for me, was being called "stupid, broken, damaged, slow" etc.. for over 12 years. When you listen to this on a daily or even hourly basis, you tend to believe it. I always felt less than and spent my school years (K through 12) eating lunch in the janitor's closet, in the restroom or behind the school because no one wanted to hang around the kid who stuttered.
@MinkaLovesPineapples

That would be so hard being called terrible things likes that. I never experienced that thankfully, but I feel for those who have. Stay strong! You’re not alone 🤗

It may helps me w the stuttering but people think that im weird too. I stopped talking much with my classmates especially girls bcs i just start stuttering or talking nonsene that nobody gets.

It's been 3 years minka. Your stuttering reduced since I last saw your video 3 years ago. I decided focusing on stuttering is not the right call for me because it makes me more nervous about my stuttering. My best move has been to talk more often to people and not take my stuttering too seriously. I even speak up in class, which is strange for someone like me. Anyways, I'd like to talk to you about stuttering if you have the time.

My difficulty is I can't get my feelings across, the thing is when one uses techniques, one may sound fluent but a bit robotic at the same time, however when speaking naturally, I can look like I'm about to have a nervous breakdown at times but as for you Minka, you sound amazing, I can't see any tension on your face at all, is this how you speak normally?

I just started stuttering and a lot of my friends have been saying how "cute" or "cool" it is and it really annoys me because it's not easy and it can be a struggle and being in school I can't not talk and I'm very self conscious about it. It's not cool or cute it's hard and annoying and it isn't something that anyone should want to have or joke about.

Hi Emily. I know that you posted this almost a year ago. But I was out with some friends Friday night, and I had a hard time saying my name. I'm responding to your post because someone told me that it was cute that I stuttered. And I don't think it's cute at all. I've stuttered off and on my whole life. And I haven't stuttered really bad for years. But now I live in a new town and I'm meeting new people and I'm having a hard time again. I'm 63 years old and I really don't think people are thinking that it's cute.

The hardest thing is when I've said something but didn't mean to say. Like once I was trying to say "running around like a headless chicken" and I said "like headless sheep" But once it came out of my mouth I couldn't reverse it so I had to just laugh it off

My strategy was not to focus on stuttering and trying to life a "normal" life. I make phone calls. I speak up in class. I call people rather than text. I keep my calm, helps alot. I speak up in class. And it weird but I have this sense that I know when a stutter is coming, so I stop or change words around. A lot of people dont even know that I stutter.
