Debt is a deceitful thing - it traps you into a cycle that’s difficult to get free from. Now that I’m debt free, I will never go back, even if that means I do without things. I save up until I can pay cash. It’s the peaceful way to live! Thanks for your show, Rachel.

I am ‘that person’ who pays it off every month and only buy what I actually need and would buy with cash. Debit cards don’t offer theft protection or cash back. I make $2k annually in cash back from my cards. I will take it!!

Your advice makes sense for people who don't know how to handle credit and don't understand banks. I think there should be stricter laws for applying for credit, and banned credit for college students. I have had my credit card for 7 years and have never paid a single cent in interest because i know how banks make money. They have tried to pitch me everything from raising my limit to opening another card, to using their version of klarna (buy now pay later) just to get me to slip up once and pay interest. They really hate it when you pay in full & clear the balance! I don't fall for any of it, I act my wage, and meanwhile I've enjoyed 7 years worth of free airport lounge access and even some free flights, among maaany other perks, and i have zero regrets.

Yep. I love Dave Ramsey and Rachael and the rest, but I can’t get on board here. I use my card for everything I can, pay it off within the same month, stick to my budget like glue and I swear I’m not spending more than I would do so with cash-I’m just too careful a spender for that. I happily put my cash back right back on the card each month. I’m sorry if the system is bad for some, but they can learn to use a credit card wisely… or not.

Check with your FI. I very recently (like within the last two weeks) experienced fraud on my debit card from Amazon. If you can pay it off every month and reap the rewards, a credit card is worth it. Your argument is that “ppl say that all the time…slippery slope.. yadayada” which isn’t always true. Ive had credit cards since high school and never failed to pay it off, and I only use it if I know I have the funds. I have gotten free cash for items I would have purchased anyways with a debit (groceries for example). So if you can hold yourself accountable its certainly worth having one.

I understand the message is tailored to a specific type of person and it’s been preached for years, but why do you guys never acknowledge that using a credit card is advantageous if you’re responsible? I’ve never paid interest, I’m not more inclined to spend just because I have it and generally never buy anything that I wasn’t intending to, and always go in my app and pay purchases off simultaneously as the transaction happens. I’ve also been able to travel the world more bc of my points and have gotten hundreds of thousands of points using referrals (where im not required to spend a dime on my end) also help with hotel and airfare. Most people are too psychologically weak to live below their means and only buy what they need, but for those that have self control, there’s literally no downside to using a credit card, especially when you can set spending limits. People do and make time for what they really want. Why do you not advocate it strategically for the RESPONSIBLE ones when there’s literally only upside? And of course nobody is building wealth from using credit cards, but im sure people would love to turn a $6k flight into a $300 flight.
