In this video, I dive into the often harsh reality of middle management roles in the IT industry, specifically focusing on positions ranging from Project Manager to VP. I explain how these roles can be incredibly challenging, with high expectations to think and operate like a CEO while often being given minimal support. I discuss essential skills needed to thrive in these roles, such as effective communication, assertiveness, the ability to say no, risk management, and team connectivity. I also highlight the importance of reporting and showcasing your work to stakeholders and provide a candid warning for those who might be better suited to technical roles rather than managerial ones. Join me as I share my insights and advice for those aspiring to or currently navigating the complexities of middle management.

100% true. My manager just fwds request from his senior and once we resolve or reply..he just forwards the message..and at the same time takes all credit himself snd and blames team for any failures

Very true.. similar things happened with me, senior management put u under fire and uses ur shoulder to fire guns at others, u do all the dirty tricks work and then get blamed as well... team disconnects and neither juniors nor seniors are happy with u... this role is the toughest in IT

Management could be tough, no matter how good you do, team members gaali tou denge hi. In India, if you want to have long-term career, then you have to get into management and get your hands dirty. If you want to be Tech arch. you have to be really good at tech, which is possible if you get a good career path within your organization. And very important thing, bring spirituality into life, do your best and leave everything to god. It is tough, but rewarding as well, you get visibility of sr management, short travels etc finally take it easy, we all have to die one day.

Very well said🎉. Now with the increasing competition among the IT companies especially on service based industries, middle management and leadership team are getting extreme pressure from the top management to satisfy the clients and keep the numbers good i.e. revenue margin at the year end. What you have said at the end is 💯 true, like if you are good at technical aspects then that's your strength and keep improving it👍

After a certain level in technical like architect, it's also not easy.. expectations are very high for multiple technologies, if you don't have good team to support then sleepless nights

What about people in technical roles above 40 years old. Being an IC is highly looked down upon beyond that age, specially in India. And you are vulnerable because you can be replaced by a junior with less income bracket. What options do we have, if not jump to middle management?

I agree with all your point that a manager or mid management level person must poses however you know most of the people gets promoted based on performance but do not have Managerial skills and end up being worst managers who are just pretend just like boss not managers.

What you call risk management is FMEA ( Failure Mode Effect Analysis) in Six Sigma. Even engineers without six sigma knowledge know about FMEA.
