The HARSH TRUTH About the Xenosaga HD Remasters... 

What will likely happen with the Xenosaga remaster is that it'll be handled the same way as Baten Kaitos I&II HD. Logicalbeat will handle the remaster, with some supervision from Monolith Soft staff. So while Monolith would be involved, they wouldn't directly port the titles themselves. Bandai Namco would likely publish that collection as well. Hopefully they market it better than BK and give all regions physical copies. Also I definitely recommend tracking down a physical version of Baten Kaitos when you finally get around to it, hopefully an import store near you has it still!

It doesn’t need marketing, Switch Xeno fans will EAT IT UP. Baten Kaitos does not have nearly the brand recognition.

The first two xenosaga games aged like milk and rather have to remake it by scratch. The biggest problem for Bandai is how very costly for the remake is gonna be and how much marketing to determine how much it performs.

After just recently beating Xenosaga, I'm an even bigger advocate now that Xenosaga needs remasters or remakes. This series really deserves for more people to play it and have people experience this gem of a series

Yeah, and thank your lucky stars you avoided mentioning Tales of Symphonia Remastered. We don’t want to mention that travesty when that first came to the Switch, tho later down the line it was fixed, sort of. But yeah my only two hopes for that is for Xenosaga HD Remaster Trilogy is to avoid the fates of Symphonia being near unplayable, and Baiten Kaitos being under the radar, given the lack of marketing of that game.

My only hope with them connecting the series to xenosaga is that 4 or whatever it is still has a relative stand alone feel to it like the Klaus saga. Because if not that requires people to have played like 6 games which a lot of people can’t do.

So I own all 3 of the Xenosaga games on the PS2 and have beaten all 3. Have never played the Xenoblade games as I am primarily a PlayStation gamer at this point in my life. I have serious doubts about a Xenosaga collection coming anytime soon. There seems to be so little interest from the developers due to Japanese only polls they released that got very little attention among many other things. However I do have to say your theory is interesting. It makes me wonder that a full blown remake of Xenosaga will happen with Xenoblade being the series that will spin it off after watching this video. Honestly I’m glad that Xenosaga only ended up with 3 games as if the story were to have 6 games, I think it would have dragged big time and wouldn’t be as good with one or two of those games in the middle be quite boring. But that is me. I enjoyed the story of Xenosaga as it is honestly.

i think we dont have to worry as much if xenosaga got less marketing because its just a more popular series than Baten Kaitos i think even with the same amount of advertising saga would sell much better

Xenosaga getting a trilogy remaster would be duch a dream. I've veen trying to finish the series and get a physical copy of episode III since 2016, but with these prices it's basically impossible. Honestly with the relationship MonolithSoft has with BandaiNamco, and the fact that they supervised the Baten Kaitos remaster, I'm not too worried. It would definitely ve a possibility that they don't market it well, but given that Xenosaga and Xenoblade are likely coming together to continue both timelines in Xenoblade 4, i think they will do a batter job.

I am so hoping they come out with a collaboration with Xenosaga 4 and Xenoblade!. It will be super sweet!. I should also mention that I am working super hard on live action Xenosaga movie series titled Xenosaga V!, I am one of the biggest fans of Xenosaga and so badly want to be a developer for Xenosaga!. but I know Bandai Namco owns it and need to be respectful as I work on it!. Honestly developing Xenosaga V has been pretty challenging and trying to get through the stuff and get it done!. Yes Xenosaga V: The center of tragedy will be the last episode of Xenosaga. It will have two parts and two releases, 2025 and 2027!.

I played the original games and I would really love to see a well-done remaster. But I'd be satisfied with a decent PC port that could be modded with fan-created HD texture packs.

It's just so wholesome to see that the people who make Xenoblade videos seem to have such a collaborative spirit. You're using a part of a Paragon of Torna video cause you think he illustrates your point very well just like he did in another video by using a part of a video from Luxin to illustrate his point as well. It's just very cool to see. Almost as if every Xenotuber watches the videos of the others Xenotubers.

In a perfect world Monolith would be allowed to give the Xenosaga trilogy the same treatment as Xenoblade DE, where they could update the character models to make them more consistent and give the games some QoL features. But since they are likely to be handled by Bandai Namco with maybe some supervision from MonolithSoft they probably won't put as much work into it and we will have to pray that they aren't as buggy as some of Namco's other recent remasters. I think what FR did won't impact the base game of the next Xenoblade as much as it will the DLC, but it's all fun and speculation right now. I just bought xenosaga 3. They better not have a remaster, it’s my retirement plan

As much as I would want more story for the Xenosaga characters, in my personal head-canon, Xenoblade 1-3 was already the continuation of Xenosaga. After Xenosaga 3, the big question was what happened to Lost Jerusalem and what is there now. And (spoilers for xenoblade) that is just what Xenoblade did. Of course it wasn’t a direct and clear continuation of the same plot and characters and all that. But that’s how the Xeno-games always continued each other. Similarly Xenosaga was a continuation of Xenogears episode V and the end of the universe, but disguised as Xenogears episode I. The references among each other are never the A-plot. I hope for more Saga, but I would be shocked if Xenoblade 4 was actually that. Maybe more common background between the two series.

I have a feeling that if it does get a remaster, while Bandai Namco will be the developer, Nintendo will be the publisher and possibly provide funding. Since they've effectively tied Xenosaga to their IP, they'd probably want to keep a Xenosaga remake exclusive to Nintendo platforms, which they could do by funding the project. Being the publisher, this would have the added benefit of Nintendo being in charge of marketing, so hopefully they will do the game justice and make sure Xenoblade fans know to buy this game. Nintendo loves having control over their IP, and if they've already agreed to let Monolith use Bandai Namco IP going forward, it would be odd if they didn't already have a plan to keep a tight leash on Xenosaga somehow.

Great video. Quite passionate on this topic you make really good points about Bandai Namco they had the same problem with some of the Tales Of ports like Symphonia. If we see the games in a random direct and Monolith has control we could see something big imo. Similar to how they kind of ret coned Klaus. How he originally had a simple key around his neck as a necklace (Kingdom Hearts vibes lol) but in definitive edition he now has a core crystal making it fit better with Xenoblade 2 and the whole Trinity processor story (Of course with 2 coming after 1 they they took the opportunity to make changes with the definitive edition). Sorry very lengthy explanation but something like that with Xenosaga would be cool nothing crazy but just enough for it to feel more connected. Also interesting fact on Testsuya Takahashi's involvement with Xenosaga, he directed the first game had no involvement in episode 2 and supervised episode 3. So would be curious if he would make changes. I really liked episode 2 despite what I hear about it but maybe then cause I'll admit it did deviate the most story wise so they could go further with some changes. Either way Xenosaga needs a remaster I live in Europe and it is crazy to me we only ever got episode 2 officially so this would really open the gateway for so many fans hopefully. Sorry for the lengthy response great video by the way felt like the subject was important especially with how Baten Kaitos was handled (those ports still have issues after patches such as obscene input delay but another topic lol).

I just sold my xenosaga games for ps2 for 400 bucks. I wouldn’t mind a remaster so I can add them back to my collection

I'm really hopeful for the upcoming Xeno games, whether they have any relation to Xenosaga or not, especially after Bamco established its new studios, Studio S & Studio 2, which are dedicated to Nintendo projects.

My goal for this year is to finally play the xenosaga and xenogears games this year! Monolith soft truly are a goat for making such amazing series’

I don't know anything about baiten kaitos, but does it have a current gen series that connects to it? With the Xenosaga series connected to Xenoblade, a currently running series that has sold a lot of copies, I would think they'd want to make sure a remaster was done right.

Like I said in the Twitter post, I'm really hoping for a port of these games, to finally be able to play them. I recently bought Baten Kaitos on the eShop on a sale, so I'm glad i have that, I still want to but a physical version of it but it's difficult to find one. One of my other hopes is that Bandai Namco releases more physical copies of the Xenosaga Trilogy.

I wouldn't use Baten Kaitos as an example of why a Xenosaga remaster wouldn't be handled by Monolith Soft. Baten Kaitos, although a good RPG doesn't have the notoriety of Xenosaga. Harada mentioned he would like Monolith Soft to handle the Xenosaga remaster. The only problem I can see with that is if Bamco wanted the remaster to be multiplatform it wouldn't sit well with Nintendo since Monolith Soft is owned by them. Harada's main concerns regarding a remaster was profitability. If that's the case Bamco should let Nintendo fund it just like how Sega let them with Bayonetta 2 and 3. That way Monolith Soft can develope a remaster for Switch or "Switch 2" as an exclusive. Considering Xenoblade has been very successful and with the inclusion of Kos-Mos and T-elos in XB2 Nintendo users are already acquainted with Xenosaga. To me making Xenosaga HD Nintendo exclusive seems like the best choice if profitability was a concern because they can piggyback off of Xenoblade's success. Bamco also has a very good relationship with Nintendo as they helped with Smash Bros. Me personally I would like Bamco to sell the Xenosaga IP to Nintendo and have Monolith Soft do a complete reboot with all intended 6 episodes.

Tbf, I dont think Takahashi want to do a sequel to Xenosaga or even keep going with the Perfect Work lore he uses since now 25 years. I feel that Future Redeemed was his way to "conclude" his weird and hard relationship with his dream of a complete and complex saga filled with all the thematics and the idea he has with Soraya Saga, and even the things he wrote post Xenogears. I mean, he got that, a complete saga, with 6 games (if you consider the 3 DLC for each Xenoblade as games too), and even almost the same ending that Xenogears has with Future Redeemed, Xenogears planned to be the fifth game of the six Xenogears, and Future Redeemed being... the fifth game of the Klaus Saga. I think the radio scene can be understood as a gift he does to his most dedicated fans following his works all those years, more than a "teaser" for new big sequel to Saga or Blade. He also has an fonctionnalist way of thinking his own universes, making them really solid, and the funny thing is, connecting Blade and Saga would required just a tiny retcon of Saga lore, while at the same time explaining and deepening a lot of things, there is even some dialogs in Xenosaga 3 who can be clearly be linked to the fate of the Earth because of Klaus. One of the character who "know" what happened dont elaborate about the vanishing of Lost Jerusalem, just saying something like "It was all because of the ambition of Men", clearly something to be linked to Klaus own ambition xD And the last thing that make me feel this way is the ending of Xenoblade 3, when Noah thrown his Xenoblade to the sea, in a panorama really close to the last scene of Xenogears, I can't get it out of my head that's Takahashi symbolic way to tell us that's he is severing his ties to the Perfect Work, and will too, move on from his past after XC3

Loved the Xenosaga series and Episode I is still my favorite of the 3 because it took the time to develop the character and the world. I can tell they rushed Episodes 2 and 3 in a way where you are thrown so many plot twists and elements all over the place and the battle system threw me for a loop that I never played it at all - just saw a gameplay of it for the storyline purpose. If it does come out, im actually stoked to relive it all over again and try it out since its been well over a decade since I've played this game. Just finished XC3 but haven't played the DLC yet - I need to play XC1 an XC2 to get the storyline understanding of it. Thank goodness I still have time.

I'm more optimistic because Takahashi has Nintendo behind him now. When he and Monolithsoft were fully independent, then all bets were off, but now, Nintendo has got to be motivated to keep one of their top creators happy. Hopefully Nintendo can use their influence to make sure everything comes out right.

Went to the extra trouble to get Baten Kaitos' physical copy from abroad. Been obsessed with the release, checking it practically every week until it released. And let me tell you, like searching for water in a drought. The only time any news came out was through really obscure interviews scattered about. Bandai Namco essentially made no effort with the release, yet the game itself was lovingly remade, seems to look good. My suspicions are that they focused all their efforts on advertising in Japan and left everyone else out to dry.

Look they have been threatening a remaster of these games for well over a decade now. Chances are is that it won't happen period. I love the games but there isn't exactly a big demand for them and I doubt marketing will make much of a difference at all. If it happens it will be digital only and they'll be lucky to make anything off of them.

One of my favorite series of all time, I was really disappointed with Xenoblade 1 and 2, I haven't gotten 3 yet. I really hope a remaster is coming.

Nintendo and Bandai Namco have a strong pre existing relationship on the development side of things. Hell, Namco even has a team dedicated to supporting switch exclusive games. Chances are, that team is taking up the development of the Xenosaga remasters

They actually did advertise Baten Kaitos quite a bit to the leadup to it's release, there was at least one other fairly lengthy presentation for it in the summer if i remember right. Heck it was probably the "No English Dub" part of that advertising that hurt the game's sales the most. Most people prefer dubs over subs and will pass up games that don't have dubs at all. I don't mind that it didn't have the dub much since the first game had a really bad dub to begin with, but that really hurt the game's sales. All I can say is they better not pull that off with Xenosaga as the dubs for 1 and 3 are masterpieces with 2's needing some rerecording for certain characters like Shion and KOS-MOS. Also Bandai Namco works with Nintendo all the time. They develop the Smash Bros games and even recently set up a studio to work specifically on Nintendo games. So a collaboration with Nintendo and Monolith Soft to modernize Xenosaga is probably what's happening. I would not be surprised if this remaster/remake is being fully handled by Monolith Soft themselves due to how good the relationship between Nintendo and Bandai Namco is. Even if they get another studio to do it the updates to Baten Kaitos' visuals were actually pretty good, so if that's the bare minimum they do I think I'd be fine with it, but I think they'll probably do way more since Xenosaga will most definitely sell way more due to it's name/series recognition and they will get a lot of flak if it's half baked. This is all assuming this is actually happening though and I wouldn't put it against Bandai Namco saying no to it for some reason. Though I highly doubt they're ignoring the popularity of the Xeno series at this point like they were back when Harada made that statement you highlighted.

Monolith Soft has published under Namco Bandai, while serving as a first party developer for Nintendo. The only stipulation was that their games had to be made for a Nintendo platform. Super Robot Wars: OG Saga: Endless Frontier, and the Project X-Zone series are two examples where they have done this already. Namco Bandai have given Monolith Soft projects to other devs sure, but it is also very possible they would give it to Monolith Soft. I like your point about the miracle about Nintendo working with another company's IP. Future Redeemed seemed to be a first for Nintendo. It is a shocking development, but somehow Takahashi and co pushed it through. Compared to this, a SRWOGEF situation is far easier to achieve.

I think you bring up some valid concerns about a potential HD remaster. While I would like to see more people have a chance to play these games, there is going to need to be a certain level of care needed for it to be done right. That level of care will be expensive with all the spoken dialog and cut scenes. Those are reasons why I have been skeptical about this happening at all, but we shall see. Great video. I’m so frickin excited to FINALLY see a Xenosaga remaster, or remake. I mean I have literally been hoping for years!!! When Baten Kaidos was remastered I was like WHY NOT XENOSAGA series!? lol. I will be happy if Xenosaga finally gets a remaster. I still have one of the originals packed away in my attic somewhere but still don’t have the original console so can’t play it.

Loved the first xenosaga. I hated how they kept changing the character design and the battle system. Wasn't surprised that it was supposed to have way more episodes that got cancelled...

Tbh IF Xenosaga is gonna end up essential for the future of the overarching plot i am pretty sure Xenosaga will be remade similar to Xenoblade 1. And Nintendo maybe paying for marketing for example. So until nothing is announced i am not too pessimistic. I get where you coming from tho.

How long has it been since we heard about a Xenosaga HD remastered.. it would be a dream come true, but seems unlikely to happen, since the trilogy isn't popular enough. I would buy it right away, KOS-MOS being my favorite video game character

Really hoping Takahashi is involved with the Xenosaga remasters since the games are likely connected to Xenoblade now. Some retcons to fit in with the Klaus experiment would be ideal as well, so that everything links together perfectly. Awesome discussion bro, loved it ❤️

Xenosaga is one of my favorite series in all of gaming. They honestly would need to do much to make us fans happy. Just drop it on switch and call it a day.

Personal wish, I hope that if we DO get a Xenosaga collection, I hope we get the American release of Zur Macht (Albedo's scene there is more disturbing than the Japanese version) and the Japanese version of Zarathustra (there's a scene involving Shion that censored the blood out in the American version)... and hopefully Gut and Bose just gets a full rework, it's generally just not a pleasant game to play. Also include the Japanese only DS game I & II and the subgames + Lost year.

I would absolutly love to seem xenosage remade with all the modern bells and whistles, but at the same time im not sure i trust modern devs to do that. Games cover a lot of heavy topics and id be afraid the story would be warped and changed because elements are deemed " unsuitable for a modern audience"

Bandai Namco has already stated that their market research deemed there is not a market for Xenosaga remasters so I don't know where this insistence that they are coming stems from

Honestly, I just want it to happen at all even if it doesn't sell and makes the series do the disappearing act once more(Outside of maybe 1&2 coming to a future DS NSO app. At least I think they should add DS and GC games to Switch 2, it would be silly if they wouldn't), even just for the sake of the game being more accessible for the future if it launches on Switch...because like, Switch is still more convinient to emulate than PS2 for some reason and that does not seem to want to change, so the Switch 2 probably will be too since public info already says it will be quite similar, just with a lot more power and visual quality behind it. I thought the "harsh truth" was that they recently said/hinted that nothing changed in the last few years and it absolutely will not happen. Though I guess it is harsh towards people who don't want to touch any Xeno-material not directly from Monolith(Xenoblade 3DS port crying in the corner) with a 10 kilometer pole and would jump off a cliff if Square made a Xenogears remake regardless of if it is good or not.

(Keep in mind that Xenoblade X, for example, was originally planned as a kind of MMO) I mean after all in the story DLC of part 3, Xenosaga is canon with the lore of Xenoblade or vice versa. There's a multiverse part of it all anyway and the name could then be Xenoverse.

I am a 53 year old "teenager". Your voice sounds pretty young. I have been playing video games for 46 years, since Santa brought me THE VERY FIRST CONSOLE that ever came out: Pong! by Sears, for Christmas in 1977. I never played Xenogears,, but I did buy Xenosaga #1 the day it came out, and loved it ....... almost. ALMOST. The problem with the game was that there was a glitch, a small one to most people, a big glitch to me that completely BROKE the main side quest that continues throughout the game. I was surprised, and very happy that i was the first person who found this, and posted it on their official forum at the time. For their main, continuing side quest, you must unlock cabin doors with a key card, get a unique item and a new, different key card, and find the next locked cabin door. Unfortunately, 1/2 way through, it glitches and the key card will not open it's specific door! I posted about it, and no one ever commented on it. The company did not say it was fixed in Game #2, and I completely boycotted the series, and refused to buy the last 2 games in the series.

The re-release of TOS was botched to heck (most of the problems have since been patched but it's not perfect). I've been leery about remasters since the remaster for FFVIII. (The backgrounds are so muddy 😕 but it that case a lot of the games original code was lost.) The only way I can see a successful remaster for Xenosaga, is it being handled by someone with a real love and respect for the series and not just looking for a quick cash grab.

I'm worried aboot the remasters because they're good...but they're mostly a slog and won't stand well on their own without nostalgia.

it has to be a remake because xenoblade retcon a lot so to make it cannon they will remake the whole think as a new trilogy.

t's a shame they messed this series up so bad. There were supposed to be six games. Episode II was like they tossed the entire first game out the window and reinvented it. It was shorter, the battle system was nothing like the original, and all of the characters looked nothing like their episode one versions. They made up for it with the third game, but by then people stopped caring.

When you said "Baten Kaitos," my response was "Who?" Let's be real, Baten Kaitos, however good it may or may not have been, was not nearly as popular as Xenosaga. As others have noted, it also does not have a modern game tied to it in any way. Xenoblade has become huge. Not to mention that sales numbers of Xenosaga were 1 Million, while Baten Kaitos barely broke a quarter of that. At this point, I would question by Bandai-Namco would waste resources on a remaster of a niche title that sold poorly over a hit classic that has a modern built-in audience.

xenosaga 3 is such a good game, it would be dumb on their part to not remaster it or remake it . if they stop wasting development on garbage like the sword art games they keep pushing out , maybe we can finally see this thing happen

I don't think it necessarily needs a ton of bells and whistles but to me it's pissing away money to not at LEAST port them to Switch as an accessory to Xenoblade fandom. Xenosaga isn't perfect, but it's a DAMN good story and the third episode is a legit payoff.

Baten Kaitos is a bad comparison to Xenosaga. Baten Kaitos was more of a pretty game, Xenosaga changed lives. Game companies can tell the difference.

You are so negative. Nintendo has no problem on working with third parties, they even could negotiate with square to remake smrpg. And they have much better relationship with namco. I believe they are making an agreement to let monolith remake xenosaga, xenosaga is an unfinished project. Now that Nintendo gave Monolith the knowhow to better organize and finish a project, i believe Takahashi wants to revisit his past work. And Nintendo will probably be ok with it, it was Nintendo who said for him, make your vision without compromises, when he was making xbc. I do believe it's highly probably a remake will happen.

Honestly Xenosaga 2 killed the series for me to the point I'm surprised it's even getting a remaster. Gameplay was worst and it kind of made me hate Shion. I get that's the middle of her character arc but that's the problem with an overly long RPG narrative. You have to deal with development forever even when the character is acting like a crazy person. Got to 3 and while the gameplay was greatly improved, I just didn't care about the plot anymore, so I dropped it halfway through and I feel like that's the main death kneel for any product, apathy. Regardless, there are other jrpgs that I feel could use it more than Xenosaga.

Learn to fix your script... or if not freaking make one.
