i would agree w that. There is something very authentic and convincing about this movie, and the way the entity is portrayed as an undefined black mist just adds to the horror of it. I consider this the first conjuring movie before the conjuring was a franchise!
Of every horror film I have seen, None have made me feel freaked out like this movie. The part where she's doing the washing and her name is call.When she starts walking up the stairs JANET that one segment is the most eerie scene I have ever seen and heard in a movie.
Yes! And if you listen closely, you realize the whispers are voices & dialogue from The Exorcist! At one point, the demonic voice says "I don't want Chris to see this...."
We weren't allowed to watch this as kids because it was real. All the locals knew the story, watched the movie, and claimed it was very accurate. We drove past it. It's 334 & 332 Chase St. It was creepy. Place looked like a small red & white duplex, but it just felt evil, like you shouldn't even look at it too long. For the record, Pittston is the poor town in decline, across the river. West Pittston is normal, nice suburbia, with the better school district. Many houses were built on top of collapsed mines or filled in coal mine shafts. Some places, have entrances still in the basements, which I'm guessing now days would be out of code. My sister dragged me down the stairs late one night from my bed because she couldn't sleep and this happened to be coming on, I didn't sleep for weeks afterwards. 😮
My mom had to sleep in my room cuz I was so scared. I was like 9 and my aunt and uncle were babysitting me. They were watching this . I watch it and it terrified me. I can still remember being afraid to sleep at night
This movie definitely scared me as a child... It had me scared of big houses with stairs and basements for years! I don't want to jinx it, but it really doesn't bother me that much now when I watch it!
Best movie I have seen for a while; so old fashioned today; thi g's are so different, so many people live alone, no happy families for me anyway, yes true story!❤
Agreed. Ironically, the evil whispers that The Smurls hear from the pillow.....are the demon using dialogue from The Exorcist! At one point, the voice says "I don't want Chris to see this....."
Scared the hell out of me.Scares me to death every time I see it.This one is a paranormal classic.Just as much as Poltergeist is.The book is bloody fantastic too.If you haven’t read it (Robert Curran).I strongly suggest you do. It will terrify the bejesus out of you!.For me this makes The Amityville Horror movie like watching Mary Poppins!.Love it!. X
I agree....the book is even more of a chiller! Even if some of it was 'dramatized', its scary as anything! And if none of it was, much more so. The conversation Janet has with the 'priest' on the phone stays in my memory, its almost as terrifying as the 'Janet!" scene here.
Watching this in the early 90's on Ch.33 during Halloween season. It scared the hell out of me then and still til today I get goosebumps when the intro starts! This along with Sightings, Unsolved Mysteries and The X Files....the good ol' days.
Thank you for uploading it with this quality, I watched this movie as a teenager, it really made me feel scared in some scenes, the disturbing sexual one, when a young woman sits on the father and then she turns into an ugly fat guy.... damn, it blew my mind away....
Janet ... If I heard that after I moved and years of being tormented I would have showed up at the Church with all my belongings and tell them I will now be living there until they do something! At least I would feel safe, and if anything happened the Church would be there to see it. Great Movie.
My mama and daddy lived in a little old house in West Virginia back in the early seventies and my daddy was a truck driver and he would go out of town for days sometimes weeks my mom was Pentecostal at that time and she told me one night she hadn't been feeling like she was feeling creeped out for some reason she went to bed right there and all of a sudden she felt somebody set on the end of her bed she looked up and seen any seen nothing and then she felt a hot breath on her neck she jumped up grabbed my daddy shotgun inside and the recliner with the Bible on her lap and then she felt the hot breath blowing on her neck again she finally left that night and literally within the next day she had to come back with some people just to get personal belongings and never returned the whole house was furnished and she refused to take anything except for her personal belongings but she was a home alone that night my daddy had been out of town nobody was there except for my sister but she was asleep in her bedroom so it wasn't a person my mother didn't do drugs or didn't drink😅 she wasn't asleep she said she never fell asleep

@@jdmagana1132 I hope your right, thought anything involving the Warrens usually ends up in the "Conjuring Universe" as did the fantastic made for TV docudrama - "The Demon Murder Case" (1983) with Kevin Bacon and Andy Griffith...It was "remade" as the movie "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It." A commercial "paranormal" witchy adventure fantasy... It was the remake I was eluding to above.
every time I see a movie older then 2005-2006 i get my hope back il find what im searching for, I've been looking for a specific horror movie for months i used to watch only a part of. It's a older horror movie about fammily or a group of people being attacked - as the time goes,by a mutated humans that crawls inside the walls and are actually not monsters yet they simply became that way since they live- i think inside walls. I can't find the movie,I tried searching a lot , nothing. I don't even know the movies name all I know is ,it's horror it's not supernatural but I assume that would happen to humans that they live in such circumstances. Creatures are similar to those appearing in movie,, Descent " but it's not that movie, what got me remember this movie is - allegedly it's inspired by true event or by a book - or maybe I got it wrong. I remember that FBI ,in the end of the movie,comes to the house and they bring out the creatures - something like that. And there is a scene where they find a younger - little girl in kitchen eating a mice or a rat - that's all I remember. And I am quite eager to find that movie,but still nothing if someone knows what movie I talk about please help 🎉
@@nelliemelba4967 i noticed that movie and when played it I got confused for it looked too relaxing although it may be it. The creeps - I remember them,are the similar to those from,,they came from the attic " or ,, descent" but not these movies - there's a scene I got remembered when they spot a youth of these creeps eating a mice in a kitchen. It has been more then 15 y I recall that movie and still can't find it
Been asking this question for twenty years, Best I have come up with is films that were made by some production company's that have long disappeared and the result is nobody actually knows who owns the rights to the film anymore.

Good movie!! It accurately portrays the American family of the time period, acting is very good, and I bet it's very historically acurate as well. Not hollywoodized in the least.
Love these olders movies, they didn't dramatized and over-exaggerate what was happening. All over RU-vid is nothing but fake, with inserts, apps and editing to make stuff happen. In reality it really does happen to people. Scary crap man.
One of the things that I HATE about the changes from Vatican II. It is SO HARD to get Rome to agree to do an Exorcism. :( (i was born in '98. My parents remember before the Second Vatican Council)
They don't even touch on the teleportation that happened while the investigation was going on the dog was teleported several times while the investigators blocked the route and one of the girls was teleported and dropped in the living room like in poltergeist
