I used to sleep on the back dock of a building, when I was homeless, in the night, looking up at the moon shining on my face, wishing that my family would come looking for me. No one ever did come to look for me. But I survived that life. And I'm SO IMMENSELY GRATEFUL. I LIVED TO SEE ANOTHER DAY AND TELL ABOUT IT, TO HELP ANOTHER. Thank You, Almighty God, The Compassionate One. His eyes were on me, I just didn't know it.
Isn't it crazy how these songs still stick even after you hear them so many years later??? I'm just as stirred as I was the very first time i heard it!
Amen and thank you because that’s exactly what is missing now, the Songs nowadays don’t Minister to the Soul or Spirit, with the exception of a very few
R.I.P. BISHOP WALTER HAWKINS WHO PASSED AWAY TODAY, SUNDAY, JULY 11, 2010 IN RIPON, CA. THANKS FOR STOPPING BY AND BLESSING US WITH YOUR MUSIC. YOU WILL BE MISSED
I love this song because i lost my dad 3 year ago and lost my mom 6 months ago but GOD IS GOD and He has keep me and my sisters. So be grateful. Its hard but as my mother told me no matter what GOD IS GOOD!!!
I am so grateful for the Lord's merciful grace! I lost everything in 2016 family who I always supported turned their backs on us. My daughter and I were homeless and had to move into several shelters but GOD NEVER LEFT MY SIDE. IN FACT, THIS IS WHEN I GREW MY FAITH IN HIM!! JEHOVAH JIRAH MY PROVIDER. I JUST GOT ACCEPTED INTO NURSING SCHOOL YESTERDAY! GOD IS ABLE!!!!!
There's NOTHING like these classic Gospel songs!!! They had power. They will never be replaced - especially by all this "praise and worship" cotton candy stuff...
Three people don't like this song...something is wrong with them! This is a classic and thank God for allowing Walter Hawkins to walk this earth and giving us these songs!
your comment brought a smile to my face. i lost my grandmother last month (84 years old). She taught us to love the white kids, the black kids, the spanish kids, the asian kids because they all will be in heaven when you get there. So you'll get to be on the same block as the Hawkins Family and my grandmother too :0)
The lord Called my mother home a week before mothers day in 1999, only now can I say I am grateful for even having her as my mom and look past the sleep, knowing she heard the master say to her , WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT, for my mom I am grateful , for the Grace I am grateful, that a GOD would love us so, I am grateful ,, Jesus the thought of you overwhelms my mind and causes me to bend over and hide my head from thee, Oh how wonderous that you would save us from our own selves...
A church we used to fellowship w/ in SC used to sing this song and the church would explode!!! I always loved this song. Whenever I hear it it makes me truly grateful that regardless of life's up's and down to be grateful b/c w/o God in my life it would be way worse. So glad that Christ truly cares for me!
My oldest son was murdered and these songs remind me we live in the devils world but the GOD I SERVE HOLDS MY MIND AND HEART AS I HOLD ON TIGHT TO MY SANITY. I need this every day to remind me something is holding me together it’s God and I’m grateful
@yvettegreen8234. My condolences for your loss. I just want to encourage you right now to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!!!! God will walk you through some things that you think ur heart's gonna burst open bc of so much grief but JESUS OH SWEET JESUS IS THERE TO KEEP YOU. HE WILL SUSTAIN YOU AND COMFORT YOU. YES HE WILL! HE SAID IN THIS LIFE YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATIONS BUT TAKE HEART FOR I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD!!!!!!!! JOHN 16v33 He will sustain us he will never suffer the righteous to be moved!!!!!
What I've always appreciated about the Hawkins Family is the level of sophistication they brought to Gospel Music. They were able to cross over to mainstream without watering down the message, necessarily, and showing the 'secular' world -- if you will -- that Gospel music could, in fact, be sophisticated yet heartfelt and meaningful.
My cousin used to solo this song in the choir and could never make it through the whole song without breaking down into tears and the church right along with her. The Hawkins are a powerful family of singers! You can feel the presence of God! Awesome!
I've been around the HAWKINS Family since High School. My mother was a Gospel Singer and the Hawkins used 2 come 2 our church at least once a year. Tremaine Hawkins and her son Jamie were our Vocal Coaches 4 MC Hammer 'To Legit Tour'. I was a Background Singer/Choreographer. Walter Hawkins well was my daughter April Weeden-Washingon's Pastor. Just saw him Christmas2009, at his church. Walter Hawkins. ALWAYS SANG! PRAISE GOD! Thru his AWEAOME VOCALS. R.I.P. Walter Hawkins
This song made me realize I should be grateful , I have a roof over my head food on my table ,family .Both my parents still living, There are people who don't have this
can't stop singing this song. people I would be on my last unemployment check having a hard time getting a job because I have a criminal record which shouldn't be.I would get a job that help me finally earn enough money to pay my rent and not have to borrow
"...todays music lacks anointing most of it you can't tell if it's gospel or R&B." Believe it or not, that's what they said about the Hawkins' music, back in the day. Now look how it is revered by Gospel artists.
kphilj I truely agree with you. The classic gospel were anointed and when they were sung, it was like the power of God was resting on our shoulders. Powerful and soul stirring!
I'm turning 32 on Feb 15 and I'm so happy. But i'm just grateful to be here seeing the age of 32. Some people didn't make it this far. And not only did i make it...but i made it with my family and loved ones all around me. I AM GRATEFUL!!!!!!
THIS IS THE SECOND GREATEST GOSPEL ALBUM..... ARETHA'S AMAZING GRACE ALBUM SET THE FOUNDATION FOR GOSPEL MUSIC TO SELL MILLIONS....... LYNETTE HAWKINS WAS A TREMENDOUS FORCE ON THIS ALBUM !!!
Now this is the kind of singing I grew up with! It touches your hear even today. You have to be grateful for what you have because there is always someone worse off than you. Praise God! Thanks for posting.
I realize its not a competition but the Hawkins are LIGHT YEARS beyond Bobby Jones and New Life. Bobby Jones has contributed greatly to the promotion of gospel music, probably more than anybody, but musically? The Hawkins are in a class by themselves.
Be grateful....always !!! I know can be hard sometimes, but the Word of God says: "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Gotta trust in God and rely totally on him !!!
My Aunt Arlene "The Queen of Good Gospel" by introducing me to the music of the Hawkins Family, through their recordings, set me on a new path loving gospel music. Arlene,"The Queen" as she was affectionately known in our city, and throughout the gospel-world,nationally, had owned a record store for about 33 yrs. But, when she was asked to host a gospel radio program during the coveted evening drive-commute, she really hit her stride. We miss you so, Auntie ! But, RIP. We love you.
Let's keep each other lifted up in prayer! Holidays are so melancoly! I lost my mother 3 days before Christmas 3 years ago and lost my sister 3 months ago. So, it's prayer that can only get you through everything! It's God that can't fail! Be grateful for God That can do all things and be all things for us!!!
My mom love the Hawkins Family. I remember hearing this as a little girl. I'm not all into gospel music like my mom, but this song is touching. I can't listen to this song without crying. I'm going through a lot right now and I keep reminding myself that others are in worse conditions than I'm in.
I am so Grateful despite all of the trials and tribulations. The Bible calls these trials and tribulation light affliction. I am so grateful for my health, strenght, right mind, and all of my love ones that are still alive. I am screaming on the inside and outside thank you Lord for all that you done for me. Praise God !!!!!!
I am an atheist but hearing someone with complete faith sing makes my heart happy. Spread love. That is all the world is. Enjoy what you have, be kind to others, and love!!!!
LeRoy Middleton I respectfully say that I have more in store for myself. I am not against religion nor am I against people who worship with pure faith I love it. As long as everyone is spreading love. I choose to Be Grateful for what I have built for myself, you choose to Be Grateful for what God has built for you. I see no reason for arguing... we are both grateful and happy people. Let's enjoy this feeling together!!!
Digger Howard Happy Thanksgiving. I really appreciate your post. God Bless you in every way, physically , spirituality, financially, and emotionally♡ you really made my heat so happy. Yes, SPREAD LOVE:)
god bless you as well! Happy Thanksgiving!!! I have lived in Japan for the past, almost, 9 years now… and I watch things from afar. Especially with all that is happening now I wish people could learn, love, accept, and celebrate differences. Whether that be religion, race, sexuality, creed… anything! It doesn't matter. I REFUSE to believe we are here on this planet to be negative towards one another. It is not called be "tolerant"… it is called be a loving human being. Period! Happy Thanksgiving!
This is without a doubt one of the most touching songs in the history of music. It has allowed me to realize and appreciate everything in my life the good and the bad. The Lord Christ thats whats up !!!!
I love all the Hawkins' singing...but there is something about Lynette's singing...that heart-wrenching 'Gospel Growl' that just goes RIGHT through you..and 'Be Grateful' is a timeless message--'Sang Girl!!'
When I tell you my mother played this LP over and over....wow.......this song had to be one of her top 5 gospels. She's now resting with the Lord and I just wish I could sit with her and listen to it with her and say "now I know" to her face.
Byron Kelly aww! She's with the great cloud of witnesses right now and can personally witness our Lord praying for you and the rest of those that she loved! Be encouraged my dear brother!
@byronkellywfg my goodness! whew! with tears burning down my eyes I would also tell my mother how much I appreciated the hard lessons thank you Jesus. I appreciate her staying on top of me now. Lord have mercy Jesus!!!!!!!!! BE GRATEEEEEFUL! JUST BE GRATEFULLLLLLL!
I was not a huge Gospel fan - but this song, oh my God this song... got me to go to church with my Baptist grandmother and sing! I found my voice thanks to the Hawkins singers! Thanks for posting this!
Ts song introduced me to the holy spirit, crying as a small boy in church, then it carried me through the storm of close to jails institutions, death. Today aside listen to it as a MOG it hits so differently with the "Undeserving Grace".... My GOD is awesome
Wow I had no idea they made this originally. When I was a little boy this was sang at my church. I always liked this song since I can remember hearing it around 80-81, big shout out to the hawkins family thanks for this song
One Record My Beloved Mommy would play Saturday night into Sunday while cleaning up the house & moving Furniture all by herself 🤩😍🥰 I'm So Grateful cuss I can share this with My Son's Now Mom Thanks 😊
No version will ever top this! Lynette you left your mark on this song, the God in you certainly shined through, and when you sing for the Lord nothing can compare to what the people feel! Not being biased but every time "you" sing this song, I feel the Holy Spirit moving!
This song MINISTERS!!!! Nothing like the Hawkins Family. Renditions can't compare. The anointing is thick and heavy. Amen! Glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Let me go po in my DVD. This whole concert was awsome. It was true anointing in that place back in 1981. I wasn't even born yet. LOL But when you watch this it just does something to you.
God has not promised me sunshine That's not the way it's supposed to be But a little rain mixed with God's sunshine A little pain, makes me appreciate the good times Be grateful, be grateful God desires to feel your longings Every pain that you feel, He feels them Just like you, but He can't afford to make you feel only good Then you can't appreciate the good times (YES IT DOES) Be grateful, be grateful, be grateful Because there's someone else who's worser than you, be grateful Because there's someone else who'd love to be in your shoes Be grateful, God said it would never, never forsake you Be grateful
