They created something that's not only original and came from their hard work, but also get money from it. Because you know, that's their job. Except AI training is considered fair use, and making skits with AI is cheap but transformative. Making a remix of someone famous' voice for entertainment isn't illegal, as long as you don't use it as imitation. Using an AI to copy someone's voice for a skit or song is just a more technological form of remixing. But there are still other issues that need to be adressed. There is a bill in US government right now to mandate that AI use be disclosed and the learning data be credited, which is good.

I’m a voice actor who’s recently started working for a hazbin hotel and helluva boss dub channel, voice acting niffity and Beelzebub. Don’t use AI voices. Hire actual voice actors who do good character impressions. Edit: PLEASE stop replying with “oh not everyone can afford to hire voice actors” I’m so tired of having to tell people that there are lots of people, myself included, who just do voice acting for fun and nonprofit.

I "worked" for Hazbin Hotspot for a bit, & it's absolutely terrible. A few people have tried to convince the guy behind it to use original characters or voice impressions without ai, but he didn't want to listen. He never wanted to hear anyone out & only considered tweaking his methods when the threat of lawsuits came into the picture. But, of course, he's still having tantrums & being pissy 😮💨
Sounds as if he needs to be dragged into court. This is something producers and actors (of all types) should be willing to do the moment their work appears on a RU-vid channel, TicTok or anywhere else without a written contract. Being buried in legal paperwork and finding it very expensive to hire a lawyer to avoid being utterly penniless are very convincing arguments to stop what you're doing.

I genuinely hate the amount of AI songs/voice impressions, its really messed up. And voice acting alone is really hard, from trying to perfect your voice, to missing out on events and stuff to do voice acting. AI has been used wrong, and this is genuinely messed up that people think its okay to use other's voices without consent. This is pathetic. I mean, this is just so infuriating, and I hope this gets solved.

i've had it happen to me a couple times. someone used my voice to do a nirvana cover. someone else made a character ai of me and it uses my voice and typing style which is wild lmao

I work with a Hazbin Hotel comic dubbing RU-vid channel (Hazfans Unlimited) and we’ve had to have multiple discussions to that the use of the AI. We all agree that it’s terrible and it’s never going to replace the VA’s on our channel (I’m one of them). I would like to pursue a career in voice acting, and the rampant use of AI for covers, comic, dub or even just for fun is really scary, sad and disheartening.

I saw this for another channel (I forget what it's called), and they took radio broadcasts and put Amir's (and probably other) voice on top of it, and I almost thought it was real until I checked the description... This is getting out of control and I feel bad for these VAs. I don't have that much of a problem with AI as a whole, but it's getting into the wrong people's hands....

As someone who voice acts, if one day my voice was used for ai stuff, I'd be scared. I'm very sure this won't ever happen, but if it does, it's actually one of my biggest internet fears because of what the ai could be used for. Now for who's in the right? Obviously the voice actors. They've put so much hard work into voice acting only for someone to make a terrible AI voice impression of them which isn't okay.

It feels weirdly and extremely on-brand for the person who voices Alastor to be against AI voices. I can absolutely imagine someone like Vox using an AI-generated Alastor voice to try to humiliate him and destroy his reputation, only for the Radio Demon himself to prove that there's nothing quite like the original.

He does all the voices himself (except Husk who’s mute because he can’t do his voice) the only problem I have with that channel is that the videos are always too short in my opinion.
Yeah, i remember that incident where Erica took down her twitter due to that. I didn't notice until one one of her comments on one of my old tweets went poof. It sucks that happened to her and her fellow voice acting colleagues. Glad some justice was done to those guys that would go as far take their voices for their own means.

Oh, it's way past the beginning of AI taking over art. Ask any visual artist. It isn't just individuals stealing and using AI to modify art either, corporations are replacing graphic artists with AI to generate content at a fraction of the cost. It's going to become more prevalent, because software like ElevenLabs can do incredibly nuanced vocals much cheaper than a cast of VAs, and not just for RU-vid channels, because big studios like Paramount and Lucasfilm/Disney have already set a precedent by replicating deceased actors. Maybe we should have been a bit more self-reflective back when practical effects specialists were being made redundant by CGI.

A24 went after fan artists who were making merch with their own art, they better do something about this and protect their VAs
my whole take on this. respect peoples wishes. It's that simple. Honestly most of the time when I see AI voice stuff or even sometimes AI art you can tell there is something off. Especially the voice. There's no soul behind it most of the time. Hardly much fluxuation, and just general uncanny valley.

If you don't know Tomota is a guy who posts abridged versions of popular shows like the owl house, amphibia, & of course Hazbin hotel, He's made a Video talking about how ai has no life, but an actual person can bring life to the character, which is why us Fandub channels exist, we like having fun with our voices & aren't mimicking the actual voice actors, we're just having fun, so my thoughts on this, I use an ai app but I only use it to remove vocals so I can make my Fandubs & covers, ai is so out of control, & I'm terrified of it kinda, if you wanna make a parody, or comic or anything involving characters you don't have rights to, just voice them yourself, or find someone who can, it gives more VAs opportunities, & less controversy for actual voice actors💖
Making a separate comment regarding HotSpot specifically: They're disgusting and the kind of people even defenders of A.I. generative should try to separate themselves from. I can absolutely see circumstances in which A.I. generated voice can be have shades of gray rather than cut and dry terms, HotSpot ain't one of those. They are making income which means they can hire people for their ideas. I always go back to the Scooby Doo FNAF fan project that used A.I. voices, he was by all accounts a nobody, which means people would not have given him their free time, and was using that to actually make something himself, being his animated project. By all accounts, he wasn't gonna be able to do anything until after the fact, when people finally saw the potential gain of working with him, which led to a version of the animation without A.I. generated HotSpot is just taking advantage of the trends from both HH and A.I. generated, and has no interest of growing beyond that. If his channel ever gets shut down, he will cry censorship or haters or whatever the fuck instead of understanding this, like many forms of online content, will be hunted down.
Quit giving nuance to AI generated content. There are no shades of gray in AI, and you should stop defending AI for any purposes, not just in the entertainment industry. AI has no place in society and should never have existed in the first place. Hotspot is no better than the guy who made the Scooby Doo FNAF project, and you know this. You know this, and yet, you're choosing to see the bright side of things, when it actually doesn't exist.

There was a similar thing that happened in team fortress two, where people would make bots and use AIs to imitate RU-vidrs and make them say awful stuff in the in game voice chat.
It's very disrespectful to use Ai to recreate actor and actress' voices. You're taking the passion they put into their craft. And then saying that their efforts are meaningless to you. It's the same as Americans worried that robots will steal their jobs. People need to be respectful. And see how serious this problem is.

I agree, I had a friend that I made a free art piece for and worked hard on it for her out of love and care cuz she's my friend and she used ai to "make it better" and I felt hurt so now I don't make art for anyone unless I know them well and trust they would never use ai on it 😢
I know these controversies mean little to no impact on the actual shows but I think one of my fears is could you imagine if amazon seen one of these and decided to end hazbin because the creator was deemed "problematic"? I doubt it will ever happen but you never know these days
I cant beleive people harrassed the VAs of the very fandom these people engage with. That seems like the #1 way to make someon stop wanting to work for that series/company and the #1 way to result in something being completely canceled. Its almost as bad as when JackSepticeye and Markiplier had to speak out about thr SeptiPlier fandom and all the erotica shit peolle kept spreading..
At least the main concern for this is ai voices. Be lucky that it's not another pedo/fraud situation and that it's just the VA's opinion towards AI voices (a concern they should very much worry about, being the internet is a wild place where all sorts of shit happen)

I was following hazbin Hot Spot until they said it was Ai, and i felt so let down. I had no clue what happened to them after they made a yt account, so it was shocking to see their posts. :(
The voice actors are definitely in the right they haved respectfully asked to not have THEIR voice replicated by AI and if they don't want that it is THEIR right unfortunately there is no way to prevent it which is doubley worse when considering the AI can be used to for example say something awful and might get the Voice Actor kicked off the show if enough people think it's real which not only hurts the Voice Actor but also hurts the people who just enjoy watching the show with some of their favorite Voice Actors.
I don't even know why ai Alastor's voice. Granted it might be difficult to pull off a 1:1 but one would think that use of the radio voice filiter would result in an easy time to mimic something close

I agree with you and the voice actors of Hazbin Hotel on this. I always had a problem with Hazbin Hotspot using AI voices in their videos. I would’ve had zero problems with it if the voices weren’t AI generated and that actual voice actors who were great at voicing the characters were a part of the channel. voice acting is a true talent. using AI is not.

I personally wouldn't mind as long as they were straight forward about it being ai generated. I mean, this is pretty much the direction everything seems to be heading anyway. Hell, I just watched a fan dub comic video where the va's sounded almost exactly like the characters, especially Angel Dust's voice, so I really don't see what the difference is between someone doing an impersonation or it being ai anyway..
I think it is a lil fucked up that people use AI to make Blitz or any Brandon Rogers Characters bc he is a pretty acessible person that you can ask for Making part of your art Project or send an audio, he is passionated about his character and ye... I think that the voice actors are in the right. they are hired and paid for *specifically* their voices and their skill at using them, which means the voice itself becomes a "product," or art, for lack of a better word. if someone were to use ai to replicate that "product," then it would be theft, because they are using something that somebody else owns the rights to without compensating them for it. (unless voice actors dont own the rights to their own voices, but my point is that they *should* have legal rights to their own voices.) ai voices are no different than someone using copyrighted music in a youtube video, or plagiarising someone's work.
I have slightly mixed feelings about AI voices specifically for characters. On the one hand, yes, that is the voice actor's voice, BUT they are also tying that voice to a character that is NOT them. As a creative myself, I do understand the plight of creatives and our jobs being stolen by AI. But in this case, I do also make a bit of a distinction between a character voice and a person's voice. Absolutely, if someone is using AI to try and impersonate a real person Or maybe send well wishes or something trying to be that person. That is a line you should not cross. But I feel like for fictional characters it is more of a gray area. A part of me keeps thinking, well they wouldn't have any problems if it were a human impressionist doing their voice. So I don't fully understand why it's a problem when a robot is doing the impression of the voice in character. Again, not pretending to be the actor pretending to be the character. To add to this though, the attitude that this particular creator has been taking is the exact wrong approach. Being a jerk to everyone doesn't get you anywhere.
The big difference is the amount of work. If someone is doing impressions, they tend to want people to KNOW they're doing them. It can lead to good things. If it's AI, it can be used to say anything pretty much anonymously, and can bite the actual VA in the butt. Also, there have been times when VAs can't do their voices publicly due to copyright issues...on their own voices! If that's possible, then cheapening things further with AI is even worse, cause not only does the VA not own the voice, but someone not even putting in actual work is making money off it/can damage their career.

YT comments aren't very good for this kind of thing so I'll try and do so as easily to read as possible, while giving every response the care it deserves. So this is a little long, please be patient with me. ^^; Re: "Impressionists tend to want people to know they did a voice" I've seen both with impressionists personally. Some want the name recognition as an impressionist and some don't, like an author using a pseudonym. So while I'm sure this point of yours stands in a lot of cases it's not something I would put a lot of weight into personally. Re: "can say anything anonymously and bite the VA in the butt" This is true and you'll notice in my original comment that's why I was very careful to be clear that AI should only be used in character and never bleed over into being connected to the real VA in any way shape or form. I'm also a strong proponent of proper AI labelling, which would help prevent any confusion on what was said by a human and what was said by a machine impressionist. Re: "issues performing voices due to copyright" I agree, but I think this is a problem with the current copyright abuse that runs rampant online more than it is the use of AI voices. Everyone suffers from these false copyright flags right now, from creators getting videos that are using public domain classical music getting strikes to, as you mentioned, voice actors and impressionists getting flagged. Though I will be honest I have never heard of anything getting copy struck just for sounding LIKE a voice, if it were quoting actual lines verbatim maybe because those would get flagged as belonging to the property it was voiced for and belonging to the IP owner, but I haven't heard of the case of sound confusion causing copyright problems. Not trying to say it doesn't exist, maybe you have seen such a thing, but I can't say that I have and if it has happened it is very clearly a case of FALSE copyright flagging and a problem with our broken system more than the tools involved. I think there is an interesting argument to be made that once a VA gives a voice to a character they technically DON'T own that particular voice (the cadence and general personality that makes a character's voice it's own) anymore. You could argue that the one who owns the character then owns that "voice" and the VA is the medium used to actualize it. But that is a whole other philosophical discussion that we needn't divert on to here. You made some interesting points and I can see them being good arguments but I don't happen to fully agree with them or feel they're persuasive enough to fully bring me on to the "AI Voices are bad" camp. I'm apart a video that was about to call out Hazbin Hotspot. It's pathetic this dude is mad that the cast is against it. I'm a VA who has done countless Hazbin videos and it would have cost nothing to ask people to be apart of projects.
If anyone wants to make content with AI voices, I believe you should follow these three rules: 1: Be respectful to the VA. If they ask for you not to use their voice, please respect their wishes. 2: Be transparent. Make it abundantly clear that its AI generated. 3: Don't use it for profit. It's one thing to use it for funny meme videos. It's another thing to use it for monetary gain.

Your rules are wrongfully giving leniency to an extremely harmful form of content creation that is jeopardizing the careers of all fellow content creators everywhere. All they have to do is hire actual HUMAN BEING voice actors. If they don't have the money, then they shouldn't be using voices in the first place. You are quite frankly no better than Hotspot if you genuinely believe AI-generated filth of ANY kind, regardless of intent, is acceptable in this and any other society.
My diehard dream job is voice acting and I’ve been doing art my whole life it sickens me the idea of losing the two jobs that my skills are honed so finely to to something like this before I even have a chance to show my skills and earn money
Unfortunately their content probably falls under parody laws so idk if even Amazon can do anything, although Wabbit Season by Meatcanyon was struck down by Warner and that was a clear parody, so who knows
@@kristiandobias5533 U completely misunderstood what I said, I said unfortunately these specific videos fall under parody when they shouldn’t, cuz they aren’t using parodied voices, they’re using copies of the legit voice, a parody should be 100% different from the original, but I never said parodies shouldn’t exist and I even defended Meatcanyon’s parody video Wabbit Season
I had heard ai song covers. My favorite being al singing poor unfortunate souls because it fit the character perfectly and it was just a good song. But this puts that In a whole new light. I’ve listened to a bunch of ai songs and shit posts and always just kinda turned my brain off. On one hand I completely agree with the va’s because their likeness is being used without their consent. On the other hand with that Chanel in particular it’s completely bad and they should not be doing it. But again with the songs those I still just kinda see like being just for fun.
There's actual impressionist singers out there who I'm sure would be very glad to do whatever covers you want, even for free if they're able to work for free.
My favourite part of being in communities like Hazbin and previously undertale were the comic dubs, they were always so fun and full of life. Even with the clips you showed the AI just unsettles me, it's really sad.
The original artists of something are in the right. Voice actors aren't usually born with their voice acting unlocked, alot of them train over years to be able to use their voices in the flexibility range of the voices we hear in media. I do some voice acting here and there myself and it is *very* tiring to train your voice - not only to sound "animated", but also to keep that voice in all sorts of situations (yelling, differing emotions, crying etc. pp). And instead of hiring voice actors these AI channels just take someones VOICE and make their own stuff with it? Sorry, that's plain disrespectful. Especially if the AI channel makes good money and could afford voice actors.
