This is that hadith ----> `Umar (after he was stabbed), instructed (his would-be-successor) saying, "I urge him (i.e. the new Caliph) to take care of those non-Muslims who are under the protection of Allah and His Apostle in that he should observe the convention agreed upon with them, and fight on their behalf (to secure their safety) and he should not over-tax them beyond their capability." Fantastic to see, this is definitely one of the things reverts need to educate themselves on, only when you know who the companions were do you actually appreciate and understand the significance of something like when a statement of a companion is available on an issue. Companions were people specifically chosen by Allah and getting to know them sheds light on why, they are the best role models after the prophet so it is very important that we know them. I'd suggest learning about Abu Bakr ra next since he is the companion with the highest status, the best of this ummah after Rasulullah ﷺ

During the battle of Uhod when the prophet peace and blessing be upon him prophecised the martydom of Umar and years later it came true. So Umar believed that would be his end he only prayed that he dies in Madinah and not be killed by a muslim.
