@@TJY_RISE_UP bro I’m 33 and I wish I did too I was born at the beginning of the 90’s. I’m just saying I’d like to be a teen in the 90’s it was lit as fuck. Being a kid was lit too but not like this!
The fact that they started off together and remained so close through over 2 decades of friendship and fame is astounding. There's so much competition nowadays. I don't think there will ever be a duo like this in Hip Hop again.
I was 13 when they came out. They played Jump at the 8th grade dance, and they still play it even now at lounges and clubs. It will never die or get old. Just good wholesome music!
Yes! I think I was about 10 when it came out. Was one of the few tapes I had as a kid :) nice to talk with people around the same age. Lots of vibes to be shared from those times.
@@daveperryLXXVII Before Kris Kross Baggy clothing wasn't even a thing in Hip Hip they set a whole New Trend . If you are into Rappers that are not into killing each other then these guys are Legends, but to each his own Haha 💪😅

The problem was that Jump was so good it could not be bested. It set the bar at the highest point from the start. Their other albums were not bad, but you could not do something better than Jump. No one could, that song is a timeless classic.
True. The same thing happened to groups like Bananarama, Eiffel 65, Crazy Town, and Len when they released Cruel Summer, Blue, Butterfly and Steal My Sunshine, also artists like Skee lo, MC Hammer, and Vanilla Ice when they released “I wish I was a little bit taller” Can’t Touch This, and Ice, Ice, Baby. As an artist you rather put out good single’s consistently and have at least 1 or 2 albums, or some kind of EP out before having a mega single like that. When you just show up out of nowhere and release a mega single you set the bar so high that it’s almost impossible to top, and then you’re only known for that song because you really had no other body of work to build up a real fan base before the mega single. Something singles are just for radio play to build up momentum for an album but if you had no other music out then the fans only just know you as that single. If you can’t make another “Jump, Jump” you’re going down fast!!! Even if you can you might still have people that can’t get past the impact your first single had on them.
I was 15 when they came out and BOYYYYY did we have a blast the summer of “92! Thank you for the memories. May God be pleased with Chris. So heartbreaking 💔🙏🏾
I'm 47 years old and was such a big fan and I still love all of their music regardless of what the media said or says! The 90's was such a great era! True talent #ripchriskelly
There are good ones, but you really have to search compared to back o the day….I mean, tell me Toby Nwigwe is not fire, there’s still some good ones out there, but yeah not in the “mumble rap” genre
I remember being in elementary school back in 1992-93 during second grade and two of my classmates brought an audio cassette of their music to school and when the school administrators let them play it in a boom box during lunch the whole cafeteria of school kids went nuts yelling out the lyrics, "Jump, Jump!" while throwing their hands up as the song played. I got picked up to go home early that day so I didn't get to enjoy what would have been an unusual lunch break experience but still just thought I'd mention it since this video is about honoring their music legacy! 😎👍

@@melindarobinson9153 but you’re the one who brought the topic up, don’t you think it’s critical to discover the Truth? Jesus indicated too many times to count that he was sent by God as a messenger and that he wasn’t God. When the man came to him stating something along the lines of “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life…” why did Jesus reply “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone”…….? There is no trinity, you cannot divide God into parts and then say 3 equals 1. I will never forget going to see Kris Kross at the Fox theatre in Atlanta... around 92, MC Lyte opened up for them... got a chance to go back stage afterwards for a meet and greet with some other fans. I was so happy when my mom told me that she was taking me to this concert, one of my greatest memories.
Adults definitely exploited these kids. And hearing a kid talking about keeping all his girls happy when he has no idea what he's talking about is just sad
I wouldn't say exploited by adults. They got to experience thing and visit place that quite frankly most kids will never experience plus made some money. Now it up to their parents to keep the kids grounded and make sure they still have a childhood. As for his "girls", I took that as meaning keeping his fans happy cause mostly girls were screaming after them.
I mean, he was 13. Sure he didn’t know what that meant but he was a 13 year old boy who got the attention of a lot of girls. Of course he’s going to say something like that thinking it’s cool
My condolences to his family and my condolences to Chris Smith! I never knew he passed away. I’m 46 now and at the time they came out, NYC was bumping their music everywhere! Good times! Rest in Eternal Peace Chris! IJMNA
i was 12 when chriscross came out... the pure power these lil kids had. jermaine dupri is a smart buisness man, he knows what the people like and me, a little Canadian girl growing up on much music, we were jumping to crisscross. RIP chris kelly. that eulogy was so sweet. the love those two had for each other. touched my heart. thank you again for doing these mini documentaries. they are very good.
I wish that kids today could have lived during the early 90's, it was a hell of a time...and Kriss Kross was a huge part of it.. I also wish that someone would do a piece on the rise and fall of the Starter clothing brand and the huge role that hip hop played in it. Those jersey's that Kriss Kross wore were all Starter.. Along with groups like ABC and especially NWA, rap basically made that brand.
I will forever play there music regardless of how old . I will forever love watching their interviews and music videos and I will forever say to anyone, KRISS Kross will always be one of the greatest hip hop groups of the 90s
I remember the very first time I heard them. Back in ‘91, I was lil kid and I had just gotten to this country (US)…..some time later I was walking back home and stumbled upon a cassette tape on the side walk, picked it up, took it home and played on the stereo player. And I believe “Jump” was the very first song on that tape. I really liked it and enjoyed it. “I missed the bus” was another track I enjoyed as well. Good memories. Good times.
These two kid's music were my introduction to Hip-Hop! I was three years old jumping around to jump and begged my mum for the album on cassette once I saw it in the shop. I still have that album now and is the reason why I never threw away my cassette player lol, I got my hair platted and wore my clothes backwards because I wanted to be them, One day me and mum left late to visit family because I wouldn't wear my clothes the correct way. She even caught me doing a mirror performance in my room at 3 years old with the album playing LOL! Jump is their smash hit but I really did enjoy "I Missed The Bus", "Warm It Up" , "Party" and "Cant Stop The Bum Rush"... Pause! Being an adult its annoying I never got to see them live as I was raised in the UK, I feel the same with Pun, Big L, Biggie n Tupac, I was born to late to see the greats. Im lucky to have seen some of my favorite rappers in various countries too and its amazing to see how Hip-Hop is loved globally and celebrated in countries where the native language isn't English. Kris Kross will always be a staple in Hip-Hop and I wear the song JUMP proudly as my favorite song of all time. R.I.P Chris Kelly
Warn it up was played in my car every time I would go to buy a new custom part for my car. Warm it up kriss! I'm about to, cause that's what I'm gonna do!. Good times during the year of 2001. 😊
This is One of my all time favorite groups of the 90's. I was 12 I am 43 now.. great music& memories from that era; I'm so grateful Grew up in the 80's and 90's these kids today do not know what they missed thank you. RIP Chris Kelly🙏👣
I think JUMP was my 3rd record as a young kid after HAMMER & Vanilla ICE, and was such a fun time to be a kid and in 3rd grade & are all time Legends for that record. It's one of the most iconic songs ever in Hip Hop that is timeless and only gets better for the next generation. Honestly I blame the music industry for these untimely deaths, which are used more like a promotional celebration for posthumous record sales, while loved ones grieve such a heavy and unnecessary death. It's always been and continues to be allowed to be a foundation built upon predatory and exploitative practices that by accounts is simoly a modern day endentured servitude - the artists make 5% off actual sales and around 10% at events or tours , being fleeced for their talent while Zaddy benefits the most, bleeds it dry and moves onto the next enslaved dreamers too naive to ask questions.

I can tell you they definitely shaped my teenaged years through their music in the nineties, everyone definitely wanted to be like or dress like them, from having box braids to their backwards style of wearing your clothes,I was at work one day with coworkers listening to music, when KRISS KROSS was requested we played some tracks, the very next day that’s when we heard CHRIS had O.D and passed away it’s STILL EERIE to me how we were listening to him the day before‼️ And seeing the other CHRIS give his eulogy at the funeral is saddening‼️🥺😢
I had all the KK magazines, posters and was in their fan club. They sent me a sticker and a card in the mail. I went to one of their concerts in 1992. The Sprite commercial was the best. Chris Kelly is missed! TKO 4Ever 😍
I grew up in the 90s and I am almost 100% certain that I've never seen anyone wear there clothes backwards. I did grow up in the Los Angeles area so maybe that had something to do with it.
Those of us from the West Coast didn’t do the backwards clothes as regular attire. There was nooo way anyone from my area had parents that would have allowed it. I remember seeing a couple of older kids dress like them for Halloween for like 2 years though. We had a kid from the South come visit his family and he was doing that. But people kept having to tell people why. Not because Kris’s KROSS wasn’t popular, because they definitely were. I think places like Washington may have done it, but I never saw it when I went North to visit.
They really inspired us young kids. And who can forget their cameo in Michael Jackson’s “Jam” short film. Catchy, talented, and sang songs us kids identified with…”I missed the bus”. To that good positive vibe of “Alright”. “No moms trippin, so me and my mom were dippin to celebrate the fact that I wasn’t slipping.”
I remember first time seeing Jump video I was so jealous of these kids. The song, the swag, the girls. Then when Alright came out I kept that shit on repeat. They were living my dream as a teenager.
I was in Junior High and everyone was rockin their clothes backwards (Including me). That jump jump song was the hottest thing at that moment. Shortly after that fad everyone was wearing overalls with 1 strap down. (Including me) Fanny packs were also in. I had a red leather one. Lol
Fanny packs and overalls are totally back...unfortunately, overalls are now "skinny" versions and don't suit my body but the fanny packs are much cuter than they were. 😄
i was born in 1997 but they will always play their music on the block & it was always poppin. there’s no other duo than Kris kross, it will always be them together. May Chris Kelly rest well & Chris Smith sending my love to you🫶🏻. remember you guys are kris kross for life✨✨✨
I will never forget, crisscross I grew up, loving them, like I grew up loving Michael Jackson. Those young men had no idea to be on tour with Michael Jackson is a once in a lifetime experience.
I still love Kriss kross to this day, especially when that song jump comes on it gives me euphoria of my childhood. I even wore my clothes backwards at the time and love the big starter, puffy jackets and the jerseys and of course the big black baggy jackets with the fur around the hoodie I still love those jackets to this day And we can’t forget the tan Timberland boots ….Rest in peace Chris Kelly you will forever be remembered and never forgotten …… and just to say, I don’t think a lot of people realize or even the group themselves on how big they were and how much of an influence they were. They will always be a part of hip-hop and people can’t forget that.
This is a tragic memory to me, because these two talented rappers, made east coast and the west coast jump, jump, jump, to there most precious and most valuable feet, ya,ll the fans are really stunned by this.
too am a Chris and one of the few to be told "Warm it up Kris!" had to have mad respect for these two and say they about too! cause we were! mucho kudos much respect. so sad to see how it ended but still a big fan!
I was at a MTV event in my hometown of Belmar,NJ. There were so many people there during Kriss Kross, that police shut the show down. A massive riot ensued and my town got destroyed. It was madness.
Fr, depending on the age group Jump by Kriss Kross and Jump Around by House of Pain still get the crowd going! Only a DJ would know the power of these songs 💯
My favorite duo rap group hands down. I pretty much know their first two albums by heart. Was and still is a huge fan. Parents wouldn't let me start my pants backwards though lol. Wish I could've saw them live just once.
48yrs old now and I remember bumping this wayyy back in 1992 as a teenager starter baseball jerseys caps and oh the jordans as well lol 😂 the memories of my teen years lol
I just read about this, when I was working as a teacher in Daycare, I remember when Jump came out in 92 that's the same year I got a outstanding teacher award . I'm thinking they are not going to be around long, with just one hit song, I wasn't really interested in them. but I still play that song on u tube music once in while. rest in peace chris. he's probably singing this song to his own group The heavily 😇 Angles.
@sarah simpkins If they had other "hit" songs then why does no one remember them except for their one actual hit, which was jump. Lmao they were one hit wonders.
@@joeselsbury543 because some of y'all probably didn't watch B.E.T back in the days. Or Yo MTv Raps or Rap city they had other songs that use to be play. Like Warm it up and I miss the bus and they had another song call it's a shame and Alright. On their second album that came out back in 96 they had an couple of song call Tonight is the Night and live or Die for hip hop. So they wasn't a one hit wonder! Maybe you need to check out their music that I had mentioned.
Were you older? Because back then fans didn’t go by radio play for artist they actually liked, they bought their CD’s, or went by the videos. If you only listened to them on the radio, then you may feel that way. However, “I missed the Bus” was huge when I was a kid.
@Rumplegirlskin Lmao "I miss the bus" was so huge, then why do majority of people not remember it?! Most people only remember them for ONE song which was jump. Just cuz you liked their other songs doesnt mean they were "hits". They were one hit wonders who probably didnt even create their first hit jump. They werent even rappers before meeting dupri. They were just the face of the product, who probably had ghosts writers and producers making the song for them. Plus they were only 13 yrs old with no musical experience. All of a sudden they make a number one charting hit song? Yea miss me with that. Aint that gullible.
Measure of a all-time gr8 is its longevity ; just the fact some 30ish yrs later we're still discussing KK give ample proof that this wax-lyrical dynamite of a song will always an indelibly, ( an rightly deserved) inscribed in music history. Classy don't begin t describe this... Whatever they r or will in future become, when the song was recorded they were 13yr hip-pop geniuses an nothing can change that
