What a smart and selfless choice to interview various professionals available to help! In my opinion, when a doctor (in this case Dr. Taylor) transcends the area of expertise that doctor comfortable with to open up patients options, that is act of selflessness generosity. What a gem!!

Your channel is a real Godsend. I grew up in a very dysfunctional household. Periods were something to be embarrased about, and mercilessly teased about. When I got it, at age 12, I was so scared that I hid my used pads in a gym bag at the back of my closet, then disposed of them at my first opportunity to do so, unseen. I was HAPPY when I lost my period about a year and a half later, due to having developed Anorexia. I never wanted it back again. Worse, my mother FOUND the the gym bag - which was full of my used maxi-pads, about a half a year after my first period. She threw the pads around my bedroom, while announcing loudly to my nearby siblings and father that “Anne’s on THE RAG!”. Oh, how I DREADED its arrival every month. My Anorexia progressed, and as my weight plummeted, I lost the period altogether. My relationship with eating disorders monopolized the following thirty-six years of my life. I was diagnosed with Secondary Osteoporosis of the spine, the hip, and the wrist by the time I was thirty-two. At times, my period would return for a little while, before I lost it again. When I did get them, they were extremely heavy heavy and excruciatingly painful. It felt like someone was jamming a plunger up my butt (I know, but that’s where it hurt). The second to the last period I had, about two years ago, landed me in the ER. I was in so much pain, I puked on their cot as I jammed by head through the railings, in pain. I was given a shot of Morphine. It was…..HEAVEN. I had never tried drugs before, and the pain disappeared like magic. The relief was even better than when a bad toothache subsides, or a when a cluster headache dissipates. In all this time, I never took the time (or had the desire) to learn about what was actually happening in my body. Five years into real recovery, I am wanting to know what it means that so much of my life was without a period - and what it will mean going forward. I just learned about your channel from another RU-vid channel (Angie at Hot and Flashy), yesterday. I admit I am jumping around videos like a kid at Christmas, but I really AM going to grab a new notebook and watch them chronologically, beginning with your very first episode. To think that for the last two years I have had so many tests, and have seen multiple specialists trying to understand better what the more recent issues I’m experiencing mean. Really enjoyed this video, as My OBGYN advised against HRT. In addition to my complicated medical history, we have a strong history of cancer in my family, on my mother’s side (sister had a mastectomy last year, at 43). A history of cancer, heart attacks, Parkinson’s and strokes on my fathers side. I am going to seek a second opinion regarding HRT, but it’s comforting to know that there are still other options. THANK YOU BOTH, IMMENSELY!

You do look beautiful, Dr. Taylor! Interesting to listen to an herbalist and then a testimony. I had to laugh when the gal said...shirley, you don’t have hot flashes in your 80’s! Oh, yes, they do...my mother is one of them. When I was in peri menopause, I looked through a book called Nutritional Healing, thumbed to the menopause section and got every herb and vitamin listed. I took them for 6 months with NO relief. This was not going to work for me. Glad it works for the testimonial gal. Onward to the next video!

I'm feeling better about my treatment options during my menopause journey. My OB/GYN told me to try antidepressants too for my menopause symptoms. I felt that wasn't a good option for me, so I found another OB/GYN who treats my menopause symptoms using bio identical hormones. That helped for the 3 yrs I was on them, but now she wants me off due to the cancer risks. I am currently looking into the herbs, vitamins, supplements, and diet route to see what works for me. I couldn't do it without you Dr. Taylor! I'm so grateful for these videos!
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
Which "cancer risks?" Tell me more, like your age, your medical history, etc. It sounds to me like you're stopping your bioidentical hormones out of fear and misconception rather than out of facts and necessity.
@kbaker8885
@kbaker8885 7 лет назад
Menopause Taylor my doctor was concerned about my risk of breast & ovarian cancer due to "the studies that show that using HRT for 3-5 yrs can significantly increase cancer risks" (this is a quote from her). I will be 50 this year. I am currently in perfect health. I feel like I am being forced to stop HRT because my doctor believes the misconceptions and I'm out of options for doctors in my area that will use bio-identical hormones to treat menopause. Not too many doctors are as knowledgeable in this area as you are, Dr. Taylor! I was taking 0.5 mg Divigel & 100 mg Prometrium caps daily for 3 years to treat my hot flashes & night sweats.
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
All I can say is that I have no idea what studies your doctor is referring to. I'll look for them. Many doctors have as many fears as patients have. Additionally, they fear litigation if they don't honor those societal fears. Once people fear something, it's very difficult to reverse those fears. I don't think it's fair for your physician to impose a personal limitation on you without involving you in the decision. I think you should ask your doctor to direct you to the studies that show that using HRT for 3 -5 years can significantly increase cancer risks." If she does, I'll be happy to look at them for you. It's a balancing act. There are benefits and risks with everything. the goal is to do what's most beneficial and least risky. Your baseline risks for breast and ovarian cancer must be taken into account, also. When you stop your hormones, be prepared for your symptoms to return.

Hello beautiful Barbie and thank you for another wonderful video. What are your views about Macafem?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 лет назад
Maca is a root that grows in the High Andes Mountains. It's a very nutritious food. But it does not have any special properties for menopause. Somehow, various companies have marketed it to menopausal women, making them believe that it has hormonal properties. It doesn't. It certainly isn't bad. But it certainly is not a menopause remedy.

I took some pediolyte powder last week and for that afternoon my hot flashes went away, I thought, wouldn't it be great if a simple re-balancing of electrolytes could make those horrible hot flashes go away?! But then- you already know... they came back. 🙁A girl can dream...
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
You make me laugh! Of course you can dream. And, of course, balancing your electrolytes can help. But remember, your hot flashes are due to estrogen deficiency. If you take estrogen replacement (& replace the deficiency), the hot flashes WILL go away. Other things will only affect them temporarily.

On May 30, you'll see Dr. Singh again in a video specifically on acupuncture. I don't think anyone really knows the answer to your question. But all acupuncture redirects energy flow in the body along lines called "meridians." The ancient Chinese philosophy is that, by redirecting the flow of energy, you can alleviate symptoms from just about any ailment. It's not a scientifically-studied field, but the Chinese have been using it for centuries.

Hi Menopause Barbie. I am enjoying these tutorials, thanks very much and have ordered your book. But I also follow Dr Gundry, and he suggests borage oil to balance hormones. I know you can’t comment on what he says but what do you think of borage oil for trying to up your progesterone? Would this be good enough or really it is just chaste berry (I would have the powder if I chose this)? I just want to up my progesterone as I have yam, ground flaxseed, chickpeas and tempeh for oestrogen. Thanks very much, kind regards. Love the bonnet.

@@MenopauseTaylor Sorry, your answer is a bit sarcastic and not clear. The chaste berry is a berry, not a hormone, but are you saying that will balance my hormones better than the borage oil?

@MenopauseTaylor 8 месяцев назад
The strength of progesterone in Chasteberry is only 1/100 to 1/1000 the strength of the progesterone your body makes. So, no, it will not balance anything. I am just delivering fact. No sarcasm intended.@@smileygirl1742

@@MenopauseTaylor Ok, what is the point of taking chaste berry? I’m sure you mentioned somewhere on a video (and I am watching them in order) that chaste berry was the only natural thing to help progesterone production? I’m just needing to know a natural progesterone booster as you have mentioned flaxseed, chickpeas and tempeh for oestrogen which I am having. So these are effective for oestrogen production yes? But just want to balance the progesterone naturally. I am starting peri menopause. Thanks.

@MenopauseTaylor

Ginkgo biloba is good for your memory. It helps i the short t4erm and the long term. Ginseng is marketed for memory, and has some benefits, but not as significant as Ginkgo biloba. Gotu Kola helps with short-term memory only. Video 123 will be on the herbal supplements for menopause.

I'm perimenopausal at 47 now and I'm concerned that when I reach menopause that will leave me with elevated blood pressure. Do you think that taking bp meds will be the way to manage the blood pressure in the future or should estrogen therapy be a better way to manage my blood pressure?
@MenopauseTaylor

You should definitely get your blood pressure under control NOW. You have what is called "Labile Blood Pressure." That means it's high sometimes and low sometimes. But, you definitely need to get it stabilized. High blood pressure is called "The Silent Killer." It produces no symptoms, but it can be life-threatening.

Because you are, by definition, "post-menopausal," and because all post-menopausal bleeding warrants an evaluation, you should definitely get this checked. Go to your gynecologist about the vaginal bleeding. AND go to your Internal Medicine Physician about the weight loss. They may or may not be related.

From November until April 18, I presented EVERYTHING about all the hormones in all categories (dietary, herbal & botanical, bioidentical, and synthetic). Since then, I've been presenting all the professionals you can use to manage your menopause. I haven't gotten to sex drive yet, and it's a long way off. If you want that information right away, you have some options: Get my book. It's chapter 25. Come to one of my two-day seminars. The next one is on September 23 & 24, and you'll get the entire menopause education in just two days! In June, I'll offer the full two-day seminar as a DVD (or other on-demand formats) that you can buy. And here are some of the options: Cayenne pepper Damiana Cubeb DHEA Testosterone I've listed them in order of strength, with Cayenne pepper being the weakest. You can get DHEA at any vitamin shop. I hope this helps.
