just got a movement like this, it wouldnt tick a month ago but like 3 days ago it started ticking. It keeps time like a charm too!! still needs a cleaning, as I can see the chiming mechanism not stopping on any 2 quarter chimes and the full hour chime.. probably dirt build up.
Ron, I have a Franz Hermle 1050-020 movement in my mantle clock I need to ship this to my daughter any ideas on how to pack this for shipping. The website mentioned that on the new clock they use rubber bands on certain parts and a foam piece. I assume these would go somewhere on the movement etc.. Any hints would be helpful. BTW great video!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Here in Canada we could use some of your warm weather right now to melt our snow. I don't like winters anymore, lol :)
Hi Bob, Haha! I had to rewatch the video to catch the box throwing thing. Yes, it really did sound that way alright. In reality I had tossed it onto the far end of the table saw extension, but It may as well have been the floor for all the noise it made. We'll just let everyone think I'd thrown it on the floor. Makes for that aw-shucks, who cares look. lol. :)
Is there a Hermle triple chime movement that uses hammers that I can buy? I am making a wedding present for my daughter and wanted it to match one I built 34 years ago,
Hi Ron. Though the power of Google and looking for Hermle 1050-020 clocks I've landed on your channel...after binge watching the clocks (and some ship building stuff too), I can't say enough on the enjoyment I've experienced and the laughs along the way. I was going to ask, what's your supplier as you mention you're a Winterpegger as I am too (over in St James) - so I'd like to have a Canadian supply source; all that exchange and duty rigamarole. So through the magic of 'pause' I read your shipping label - perfect! I've made a few clocks and want to go mechanical for the next and learned a few thing from you in this series....yup I'm going to make one now. As for the ships..I know of the Cellar Dweller...well not yet. Cheers Glenn
My Hermle clock stopped working after ~60 years. Hope to find the reason. The power coming from the spring hardly reaches the balance wheel.... but the case is as new!
Where’s the second part to this? Scrolling through hundreds if your videos makes it difficult to find it. I ask as I’m making a grandfather clock with the same movement.

"Warranty is void if......." LOL!! How many parts to this series Ron? Any guesses?? Sure wish you would have read us a few paragraphs from that newspaper packing material. Let's get started. I'm ready!! See ya tomorrow. JimE
Re: "How many parts to this series" If I hazard a guess, two thing may happen. First you will be scared away and secondly I'll become discouraged and depressed. Okay, won't be that bad --- I hope. Definitely will have to break it up though with a pen or two just to keep everybody, especially me, sane, lol. Not planning an elaborate thing like "The Mantel Clock" series. Planning on an old fashioned simple style case, but may use something like dark walnut. What may take up some time is that I'm going to make my own dial, which will give it that hand made look --- at least that's the plan :)
The advantage of that balance is the clock will run even when not level. I have worked on many over the years and often found when needing servicing I them fiddly both your style and the original floating balance. I have always prefered pendulum movements. They are simple to put in beat and when level are fool proof. That being said, your clock will run for 15, 20 years probably before ever needing servicing. Your videos are really well made and I enjoy them. Great work.
Hi again Lester. Since you've actually worked on balance wheel vs: floating balance wheel, it's a relief to know that I'm not required to go into a wordy explanation, lol. My plan is that at the end of this series to demonstrate quite graphically the advantage to this style of movement. Bet that you can already guess what I'm planning to do. Please don't give it away :)
