Despite the advertising, AARP hotel discounts have been impossible for me to get. In the last several years since becoming an AARP member, I've stayed approximately 10 nights at Best Western, Hampton Inn, and Holiday Inn Express, and only once did I receive an AARP discount. These hotel chains generally offer either "up to 10%" or "10% or more" "off the best available rate". Well, that "best available rate" for me has been the member rate, which is almost always lower than the AARP rate. The hotel chains want you to become a member and then they get both the membership and the advertising claim without discounting their rates. Reply 😖

18 or 21 older we believe but; you can be a minor if you are the secondary household member and an adult is the primary holder .

How much to sign up, and how much each year? Does the price change every year? Or is it month to month?

Originally it was free for the first year (they had a special running). Then afterwards it was $7-10 per year. We really like it. It’s an annual membership.🤗

A couple decades ago I joined AARP. I didn't renew it because I got tired of all the junk mail and advertisements, nearly all of it for things/services I don't need or want, and the remaining ones I can get with AAA or just by asking for a senior discount. I'm not interested in getting a $120 room for $90--I'll shop for one at $60. I usually rent cars from Enterprise because they seem to have the best availability and prices--but my own car gets such great gas mileage that I simply prefer to drive most places rather than flying and renting cars, now that I have the time to do it.

For us, we find it beneficial and don’t get spammed with advertising (so maybe that has changed since you had it some decades ago as you stated). Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.☺️

Benefits? One of their benefits is to steer members to The Hartford insurance and their ‘special’ rate. If you file even a small claim you will live to regret it. Beware.

Sorry that was your experience. We personally never had that experience nor have we ever heard about a Hartford insurance. Are you getting emails or texts or calls? The only thing we get is a AARP magazine in the mail every other month. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Used to be an AARP member then I found out that they supported Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton now I don’t subscribe to them anymore. A MAC there is a much better choice for conservatives.

Hey Yolanda, this is just a card (no passing away of a loved one needed). We are both very much alive as you can see, and we signed up for ourselves not our parents or any loved ones that are no longer with us…but that was a good question.☺️😉
