I would make an honest critic, firstly Dan this is a fantastic self motivation to get people on board and Ghana is too late lagging behind already. See the advanced world farmers get lots of financial free input because Agric sector is very cost intensive to begin, the likes of irrigation and land planning alone which is even just the basics. Despite all the cost, advanced governments pay because they know food has to be produced at all costs. Ghana is at the bottom pile of Agric innovations and production in Africa due to certain historical background not to be mentioned yet. Even the vendors besides their borrowed money from banks still need certain assistance from the gov. The start up cost is very much capital intensive for anyone since almost everything is imported, not your fault but the state of the country. Compare cost in say Asian countries where nothing would be imported, and straight away you can see that we cannot compare with them in pricing produce. The Ghana gov has to put it as first priority why we need to feed ourselves (like operation feed yourself, in the then Kutu's regime which he succumbed to). Dan also mentioned few crops to be capitalized on as a nation. When you consider that most government agendas are to cook up projects, borrow from abroad in order to share and loot, it makes you wonder, is that all it takes to govern?

Congrat to Mr Dan Acquaye for your amazing work not only in feeding the globe but also mentoring and educating masses through this channel. However, I strongly advise that he practises exclusivity especially when dealing with the capitalist societies from the west. Africa is a land of beautiful generous people with plenty of abundance in resources and knowledge. We have always been welcoming and kind to others but time and time again this has been reciprocated negatively. For example I had Mr Dan Acquaye speak about visits from the Europeans who marvelled at his achievements but failing to properly acknowledge/appreciate his wealth of ideas that he freely shared with hope of attracting investments that end up exploiting us in varied ways and at different levels.

Its not just in Ghana, but in Africa as a whole don't know the value of farming. We waste so much money importing food, yet we have EVERYTHING WE NEED TO FEED OURSELVES! But we are too blind and brainwashed to see the MASSIVE opportunities in Agriculture. As you know, we have been DAMAGED with the colonial legacy of western education, which teaches us to go to school and work for someone else. That's why we African chase degrees and cannot be productive without a job...or think outside the box.. Just look at how we view farming as a poor man's venture, because we don't realize that with technology...we can accelerate the process of farming....and create thousands of millionaires and millions of employment. Imagine, Africa is so blessed that right now, we CONTROL 40% OF THE ARABLE LAND IN THE WORLD. That is 40% of the whole planet that is available for farming is in Africa. Yet we don't know how to CAPITALIZE on it. Even Aliko Dangote, who is the richest blackman in the world, from Nigeria had this to say, “Agriculture, agriculture, agriculture. Africa will become the food basket of the world.” He went on to say that, Africa has the potential to generate over $1 trillion per year in revenues. That is $1 trillion per year that can be flowing into Africa, if we just wake up. And he said he had no idea, that there was SO MUCH MONEY in farming. And he said if he had to start all over again, he would start off with agriculture. That is the advice coming from a billionaire who is worth over $9 billion. If someone like him can see the potential in farming, why can't everyone else see it? So, plaese pay attention, and go forward with your fish farming. THERE'S HUGE DEMAND FOR IT, because we cannot do without food. It is my hope that we Africans can wake up to see the green gold, that is right in front of us. I intend to make sure l grab my own share.

Why do you need such a costly structure in that area. The use of greenhouse is very necessary in countries with complicated weather patterns. Ghana is a very tropical country and one can get a similar process in open field and greenhouse is also very limited to certain kinds of crops or else you have to spend even more.
@mushroomsavvy

During the off-season period Ghana imports vegetables so there is a need to produce throughout the year for import substitution. In addition, it creates gainful employment for the youth. Moreover, such a technology improves productivity to a great extent where surplus produce brings hard currency through export. It goes without saying also that it creates business opportunities for other investors willing to invest, for example in coco peat used in this industry and which is found abundantly in Ghana. Needless to say, there are more benefits to such an endeavor making Ghana as a hub for skills development and technology transfer in Africa in this promising industry.
