Riven is a highly mechanical champ, but in the end she Stat checkes you if oneshot or not, and currently riven only succeedes if someone who knows trade patterns perfectly poilots her, and even then there are better champs in my opinion

i thought the same, she is now my fourth main sitting at 200k and one of my best champs. give her a try !!

@@Kanmeii I just dont like that your performance of a champion is determined on animation cancels. If the animations are that sluggish that they need to be cheesed to make her not feel clunky, they should just speed all the animations up.

@@Keyblader001 every point you made is ridiculous your performance isn't determined on animation cancels, it depends on knowing where to use which combo also her animations aren't sluggish and they have very little times (0.25 sec time for w and r)

I have 500k mastery on Riven and this is one of the reasons I don't play her anymore. Minion block changing your Q direction has literally cost me kills so many times

It used to activate in her direct or enemy but they changed that in season 7

@@owo4470 i believe they didn't change it at all, her Q moves her in the direction she is facing if she's not targeting and enemy

Thats literally any riven player? You punish mistakes thats what riven does, literally DB is build on tougher matchups, Sword + pots is more high risk high reward

Doran’s blade is less ballsy. It makes you stronger in 1v1 but delays your item spike. Long sword 3 pot is harder to pull off

Pretty sure they reused the animation from Dawnbringer when she has R active, holding the blade behind her. The only thing weird with that skin is her Q3 animation, very strange.

experience, pattern detection, and muscle memory are the biggest factors. it gets to a point where you're good enough at a character that it starts to play itself, you don't have to put much thought into reacting to a situation you just kind of instinctively know what you have to do after you've done it enough times. the less attention you have to pay to piloting your champ, the more attention you can pay to the rest of the game- map, wave states, tracking enemies, tracking cooldowns, objectives, etc. humans only have so much attention they can divide among so many things, a lot of the times if you're focusing on trades and cs, you'll be less aware of the map, and you might die to ganks/roams, which is what really sets the best players apart. the ability to juggle all of the different skills required, and to do them all at the highest level simultaneously is very difficult to manage. I consider myself pretty good, I love studying azhy's games though, it's very inspiring to know that there's somebody that good out there for me to chase after

@@messiah_lol 100% but i genuinely think half of the things you said come down to talent and mechanics , there are people that just have better mechanics than others naturally. I am a very average / below average mechanically and i have known / seen people that palyed the gam eafter me be much better at piloting mechanical champs than me even if i know exactly what i need to do with the champ and may have more knowledge about the champ than them.

@@idirbouchdoug1567 you're right, talent does play a part, different stuff just clicks for different people. effort always outpaces talent in the long run though. it can be discouraging to see others excel at something you've worked hard for without much effort but generally those players (this used to be me) will cap out pretty quickly and become stuck, sort of like the turtle and the hare. talent can be a huge head start but knowing HOW to continue to improve once you've reached a plateau can be very difficult. steady progression has no limit, talent only goes so far. when the two are combined though, you get some crazy results

when you are playing for early kills in lane which leads to snowball which riven is great at then yes it's a good choice, if you fail to snowball though there are definitely better choices come mid/late game. Also the runes are very matchup dependant. Azhy doesn't take those runes every game

he goes a mix of resolve and sorcery. Sorcery tree (especially nimbus cloak rune) is very common on Riven. I can see scorch working fine

I had to check her pick rate cause I feel like I don’t see her a lot but plat+ she has a 5%+ pickrate. Very interesting tbh, I thought she was at least a LITTLE more rare since she’s a bit harder than other champs

Because he goes all-in strategy to pressure and get ahead. Riven is extremely hard to play without the lead so it's not like transendence scaling gonna be a big factor. Azhy feels like scorch early is more of a difference maker for Riven than transendence that only comes online later. Early on and level 6-9 every bit of dmg matters on Riven for lethal too and when she is not all-ining she can poke trade a lot after a few points in Q / getting back to lane with ionians.

fast early trades, not good for late game but very strong for cheese

The secondary rune choice of nimbus cloak and scorch is for cheesing early kills. It's a good setup for chipping away at enemies hp bar with some trades then using flash/ignite for the movespeed to finish off the kill. Alot of the time in lane you will just use one q or w then back off so scorch helps alot with those short trades and yea nimbus for the all in when they are in lethal range.

And in games where enemy team has alot of cc you should go legend: tenacity and unflinching because being locked down is the best way to shut down fed hyper carries such as Riven, Kata etc. Alot of Riven's power is being able to leap on opportunities as they arise with flash or just e/q mobility and catch people as soon as they miss step so being cc'ed during that moment is quite painful

That doesn't rly make sense, you can't pretend to do something while actually doing it. If you are doing it you are not pretending. To pretend is to fake, not to have the intention.

@@SelathTV He wasnt clearing the wave... He was just baiting the enemy... cmon its not that hard he wasnt actually looking or focusing on the wave, rather in the spacing. Spacing correctly with Riven takes u to next level... He did in fact CLEAR THE WAVE but he wasnt focusing on the wave or minions, rather watching the cooldowns and spacing to land the kill. Do you understand now?

"Pretend" as in Azhy hiding his real intention of setting up the Q3 for the kill by wave clearing with Q1 and Q2, he did clear the minions but that acts as a disguise of his true motive. The whole sentence is referring to his intention, not what he actually did.

She has a higher winrate against Garen than the average champion does against garen. Traditional advice says Garen is a “counter” to her but a good riven isn’t getting stomped by a garen. Even if riven lost lane to Garen she should be able to impact other lanes more thanks to her mobility and cc and more frequent ability uptime. Plus her execute is multi-target rather than single target, she’s just better. Garen is much easier though and if you’re not up against a skilled riven it’s probably fine to go Garen but other picks work too, Garen is just the easiest

The buff was placebo, she was lacking dmg and the buffs gave her +5 damage in a combo. The passive applying on towers feels nice tho. The thing that increased her wr was the new build going around with eclipse.

@@shinji136 With the current build she does more than enough dmg into tanks. The armor pen from eclipse + shred from cleaver makes her go quite dummy after 2-3 items. She doesn't win after 1item because her first is generally hydra, which she takes for scaling and income. Late game riven dumpsters tanks and has more than enough in her kit to explode carries.

It adds up to a lot when proc'd over and over off-cd in lane, and in KR they play hyperaggressively so it suits them
