yeah Leca is actually cost effective in the long run. Btw I mix with perlite so that I don't need that much Leca. You can rinse the Leca and perlite together, too.

Thank you for the demonstration! Watching videos like yours has inspired me to switch some of my plants over to leca! It’s exciting starting a new adventure with it and seeing how we get on. Will certainly be nice to not have fungus gnats. I use leca already as an element of my potting mix and no how annoying it is when it rolls away on hard floors. When you got your bird of paradise out and I heard that familiar noise, I felt for you having to do the clean up for it 😂

I just went through this with my Regal Shields. I really wanted to stick to Lechuza pots but the big ones are wallet breaking! I got so lucky, I scored the Clasico 43 on Amazon as "like new" for $60. I'm so happy I didn't have to go with the cheap store pots because my regal shields is always trying to tip over.

Thanks a lot for sharing 😊. Maybe a watch out I learnt the hard way is that some plants are fragile. I broke my Philodendron Melanochrysum at the base while trying to repot it. It was in soil. So I cut it in several pieces and I am now trying to make them root and grow again, it is a good opportunity to experiment and learn.

I need to repot the adenium that I bought back in February and am trying to decide if I'm going to go the bonsai route or if I'm going to let it grow however it wants. I bought it as a 4 or 5 inch seedling and it has easily doubled in height in just the past 3 months after I brought it inside and put it under my Sansi lights.

Can you please do a Leca vs Pon please?? I use soil and pon atm. I have Leca for adding chunkiness. Also first to convert to soiled plants to semi hydro? I recently bought a very tiny Monstera mint for $200. In Moss at the moment and I won’t repot it until it at least it doubles the size. Help Leca Queen!! Thank you xx.

Lovely big plant, but it looks like an absolute chore to water in the future. Question: with this large plant, will you still studiously do the weekly flush and changing of the nutrient water? Or are you going to tweak your routine a bit to minimize the work (and back aches) that goes into a large plant in LECA? I’m asking this because I’m transferring my monstera deliciosa into LECA. PS- I also had a bird of paradise. I got it large. It was super high maintenance to water, and because the shop had it in conventional soil it become compressed over time. It leaves also got unwieldy as it grew and they started fighting each other. I finally had to give it away and decided to grow climbers on moss poles instead. Still high maintenance but not as unwieldy.

I'm seeing premium potting mixes in Canada going for 35 dollars for 5 liters! That's a HUGE price IMO. I just stick with miracle grow cactus mix 9 dollars for 8 liters and a bag of perlite which is also 9 dollars for 8l. Then I typically put them both together at like an almost 50/50 ratio. And, this still adds up and gets expensive FAST! I try to use grow pots or nursery pots and then look for cover pots that would look great with a coat of paint! 🤣 Lately my grow pots are largely naked 🤯 I def love the look of lechuza but for my budget it's not at all realistic and I think their pon is even more expensive than leca! Another expense ppl forget it's buying grow lights! You're plant gets bigger you need bigger lights to feed them all as buddy plants take up more space. For me, Sansi lights fit in best as I can use any fixture rather than having grow lights in the middle of the room facing them. So I guess it's not just "get a grow light" but it's "get grow lights you can live with." Otherwise your initial "this will do even though it's ugly" investment will end up costing triple when you hate it and put it out of sight only to buy the one you wanted based on aesthetics in the first place!

The Peace Lily will love it. I don't know what the other one is, but by it's name, I would think it would do well. I've actually only had 2 or 3 plants that didn't do well, and I'm sure that was my fault. All of my plants live leca.

No one need to replace the old potting mix, come on… you want to leave the roots undisturbed, especially with your bigger plants. You will do big disservice to them if you untangle the roots and change the whole thing.
@taarla_grimoire
@taarla_grimoire 8 месяцев назад
very untrue! it will give it fresh nutrients, as the older medium’s nutrients are most likely used up or very minimal at best. even if you do continue using the old medium, you will obviously need more to fill out the newer and larger pot! lastly, loosening up the root ball is actually very helpful for the plant, keeping it from suffocating since it grew so tightly into the old/smaller pot and allowing the roots to continue to spread out more which is almost always a good thing (especially for more established plants).
@PSYCHDEGREE63
@PSYCHDEGREE63 8 месяцев назад
@@taarla_grimoireyou are correct 👍🏼 I always untangle my roots and trim them too, no problems at all, that's like not combing out the tangles in your hair for me. Everybody takes care of their plants differently, it's called trial and errors during YOUR plant journey, listen and learn along the way what's good for your plants, great comment 🥰🥰
