Full lyrics for anyone who cares: Step it out Mary my fine daughter Step it out Mary if you can Step it out Mary my fine daughter Show your legs to the country man (x2) In the village of Kilgory there’s a maiden young and fair Her eyes shine like diamonds, she has long and golden hair The horseman he comes riding, riding up to her father’s gate On a pure white stallion, and he comes at the strike of eight Step it out Mary my fine daughter Step it out Mary if you can Step it out Mary my fine daughter Show your legs to the country man (x2) Well I’ve come to court your daughter, Mary of the golden hair And I have gold and I have silver, I have goods beyond compare I’ll buy her silks and satins and a gold ring for her hand She shall have a mansion, she’ll have servants to command Step it out Mary my fine daughter Step it out Mary if you can Step it out Mary my fine daughter Show your legs to the country man (x2) Well I don’t want your gold and silver, I don’t want your house and land I’m in love with a soldier, I have promised him my hand But the father spoke up sharply, you will do as I command You’ll get married on a Sunday, and you’ll wear that wedding band Step it out Mary my fine daughter Step it out Mary if you can Step it out Mary my fine daughter Show your legs to the country man (x2) In the village of Kilgory there’s a deep stream flowing by And on her wedding day at midnight, she drowns with a soldier boy In the cottage there is music, you can hear her father say Ah step it out Mary my fine daughter Sunday is your wedding day Sunday is your wedding day Sunday is your wedding day Step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out, step it out Mary (x4) Step it out Mary my fine daughter Step it out Mary if you can Step it out Mary my fine daughter Show your legs to the country man (x4)

I guess it's emotions 5 Millom killed in the 1500s sent to inda Africa USA Australia UK slavery raped and cheaper the African slave's to buy. The only reason Irish slavery stopped is because the interest they turned to the opium if you want that link just ask I'll send regards 🇮🇪
Yes. I'm Irish American as to proper Irish. I Know for us we tend to treat most things kinda like this. Funeral/wake? Booze, dancing, live band. Got the job? Drinks! Didn't get the job? Throw a party anyway ! I don't know if proper Irish people act like this, but those of us who were driven out did/do. It's not everyone probs, maybe just my family. But yes, we treat everything like it's happy even if it's really really sad
I always hear this as a juxtaposition to Marie's Wedding. Marie's Wedding would be the village getting ready for this big wedding as the local farm girl is getting married to the nobleman, but Mary/Marie is so opposed to this arranged marriage that she and her lover commit suicide so they can be together forever in death.
Luke Kelly, The Dubliners, Finbar Furey, The Wolf Tones .. cant be bet but this song if mixed up with their playlist would be enjoyed thoroughly. Hits the soul! Only song in the last 2 decades that could be compared to the Rebels ❤
Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Step it out, mary, if you can Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Show your legs to the countryman (x2) In the village of Kilgory, there's a maiden young and fair Her eyes shine like diamonds, she has long and golden hair The horseman he comes riding, riding up to her father's gates On a milk-white stallion, he comes at the strike of eight. Chorus: Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Step it out, mary, if you can Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Show your legs to the countryman (x2) I have come to court your daughter, Mary of the golden hair I have gold and I have silver, I have goods beyond compare I will buy her silks and satin and a gold ring for her hand She shall have a mansion, she'll have servants to command Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Step it out, mary, if you can Step it out, Mary, my fine daughter Show your legs to countryman
I just discovered The High Kings recently and love their music. Especially this song. But I wonder if anyone knows what the name of the instrument the man on the far right (the one with the hat, sorry I haven't learned all their names yet.) is playing?
I said my Gailege is very poor. What more do you want? Besides, the High Kings are all Irish. YOU should actually know what you're talking about, and not just flap your lips aimlessly.
