Thing is though, James Morrison plays all brass, all saxophones, double bass, and piano at a professional level. But certainly renowned as a trumpet and trombone player world-wide.
@@utha2665 that's one of the reasons it's so impressive. I've been trying to copy him by learning 11 different instruments, but his natural talent is just insane
@@jacobwilliams9736 I remember going to see him play when he toured with Don Burrows in the late'80s. I was blown away by his trombone and trumpet playing, brass in general. Then he picks up a saxophone and starts jamming with that. That's just next level. And, he's just an all-round nice, down to earth guy to boot.
Players who can ACTUALLY play (and not just squeak) above double C is already a very short list...but to be able to pick notes up to triple C out of thin air with crystal clear attacks right on the pitch like Rashawn Ross does at the very end, is really spectacular. Not to mention he played them SOFT...and I don't mean "soft and thin because you can barely get the note out" soft. It sounded effortless. That's actual mastery of that register.
if you watched the interview with rashawn ross, he talks about the easiest way he plays those high notes is to squeak them over and over until they become actual notes
Well of course! Some of these guys seem like they're practicing their upper register. You won't get up there by regular rehearsals, just like you're not going to practice how to double or triple tongue during a performance. If you're spending your rehearsal on range, you'll be focusing on your lower register to warm up and then moving towards upper mainly hitting those notes for extended periods of time just like if you're focusing on technique/articulation you'll be doing whatever exercises you've been taught to work on.
Idc what anyone says Maynard will always be my favorite my grandfather would go down to a dance hall in philly every Sunday and get lessons from Maynard
@@mattlikespandas7019 I don’t think a lot of high school bands that actually put these kinds of notes in a show just due to the fact that it can be somewhat unreliable for a lot of trumpet screamers in high school, but there are definitely kids that can do it in high school. I had the wonderful opportunity to play first French horn in the Nebraska all state orchestra last year, and I sat next to the fourth trumpet in the state, and he could play the entire Metamorph solo including the high notes. And he was fourth.
Had the good fortune of seeing Arturo Sandoval in 1990 during a Dizzy concert. He wasn't playing with the band, but Dizzy had him come out and introduced the US to his talent. I think he did two tunes. Amazing, and you can be sure he was all over the upper stratosphere. Blew us away.
Now find Cat Anderson on Duke Ellington “The Opener” on an audio recording in 1961. He hits CCC in the context of maybe the most dexterous solos a trumpet has ever played. Blows everything you saw in this video out of the water.
I have three suggestions to offer: 1. The great Cat Anderson belongs here - very "high" up the list, if you will. 2. Does anyone have a film or audio clip on Ed Goodman, who was at Colorado State in 1976 and '77. I heard him at the Reno Jazz Festival. He blew away everyone, well over double C range and powerful. 3. If you haven't, check out the Monkees tune - yes, the Monkees - "Goin' Down," which features a screamer of a trumpet solo by Bud Brisbois, whose notes are most worthy of inclusion in these two "Highest Notes on Trumpet" compilations. ... Geez, I should start my own list.
Man I hit a double E yesterday while waiting for practice to start, I didn't wanna bust my chops since a clinician was coming in but playing super high is just too fun.
Would be nice to get Doc's dubba from when Johnny challenged him on The Tonight Show. There is also a great clip of him jumping in on a high G# at the end of I Can't Get Started like it's a tuning note.
Alot of these are just squeals. No solidarity in the notes. Check out Doc's triple Eflat at the end of A song For You. He doesn't just hit notes! He plays and holds them with perfect pitch.
Check out the MF protocol. I could only hit high c and the day I got the program I was up to double G! Crazy what it does for you, and it's very simple too.
I play a woodwind instrument and the highest I've tried is super C. These guys are SCREAMING smh 🔥. I like the band with James Morrison, James Morrison, James Morrison, etc
Да, здорово, красиво и эффектно! Я теперь много лет спустя игры на трубе осознаю метологический закон, за счёт чего "берутся" такие ноты аж Ми-бемоль 4й октавы!
