Although I'm not a huge Blanton's fan, this clip was extremely interesting and I really enjoyed the history and differences between the various releases. Great job to both of you!
Bought and read the book - lots of great information. Went to a local eatery today where I have had Blanton's before (only $1 more Knob Creek) and killed the bottle and got the bottle and horse. Then had to sample the new bottle which was even better than the first.
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. It was a lot of fun to do the interview. Check out the previous videos Jason and I did over the last few years on his channel. Fun times were had on all of them!
I have a similar opinion of Blantons as Jason, but from a design and marketing standpoint they are 100% GOATed to me. This collection is incredible and as a design nerd I can't wait to check out the book.
Glad you liked it! The book won't disappoint. I've had so many non-Blanton's fans absolutely love it and the quality of the book design and printing itself. Check it out! Cheers!
I got the opportunity to try the 141.9 My Only Blantons yesterday at Neat along side various dusty blantons. My Only took 2nd place behind a 16 year from 1991.
@WarehouseHinfo I just finished your book on father's day. It was so good! So much great info, time lines, and beautiful photography! Will definitely read again and will also leave a great review. Thank you for your dedication, in the most respectful way you are the master Tater and I am just a tater tot 😂.
@@samman623 Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Even Blanton's haters have told me they enjoyed it and the fact I definitely cover the pros and cons of Blanton's. It's not just a bind over letter about the brand. I tried to make it historically accurate and interesting. Cheers!
Great interview/discussion. Like most people, I’ve only ever had the basic single barrel (and like most people, didn’t think it was anything special), but I had no idea that bottle was just the tip of the iceberg. I also didn’t realize Blanton’s wasn’t a 100% owned Buffalo Trace brand.
You should do an episode with a very good friend of mine in Elgin IL. He has an incredible collection. Drinks them too. He has all the hard to find Blantons from overseas ( Poland and Italy as well)
Great video, thanks both for putting it together. I’ve just finished reading Dominic’s book and it’s fantastic!! It’s beautifully written with stunning photos attached of all the bottles discussed. The quality of the book is astounding too. The paper chosen reflects the quality of the book as a whole. It is now my favourite book based on the Whiskey/Bourbon subject.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I put a lot of time into trying to make the design and quality of the final book just as good as the text itself. I really appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
Watching while having a pour of my Blanton’s Toasted that I will follow up with a pour of Blanton’s PX Sherry finished:) Great video! Really cool of him to share! Thanks
Sweet, just got hold off a cheaper SFTB for our mkt too sip along with. but I did end up blending the bottom half off the glass😉 That's just me thou I like the variety on offer.
@@WarehouseHinfo I was honored to recently get your signed book while at Buffalo Trace and it is a fascinating deep dive into one of my favorite bourbons. Thank you.
Thank you! That's the reaction I get from people who give the book a chance as well. It's not a tater love letter to the brand. It's a detailed history with historical significance added. I actually agree with most of the tater/hype being ridiculous and definitely confront that subject directly in the book also. Cheers!
#1 : you can tell Jason isn’t a bakntons guy…I get nervous every time he handles those bottles wound the neck and wax, which can go at any time lol #2 : Dom was generous with the haz pour!
Jason, your own personal Hell huh.. what’s next? Are you going to do a tour at blue run? If you’re going to do the butterflies after the horsies, we have the magic wings, butterfly conservatory in Massachusetts. Yep that’s an actual thing. So let’s find you more personal Hell videos, because this one was great.
Very interesting! Congrats on pursuing your passion for the brand. As a Blanton expert, I wonder if Don can tell us the age old question of what bourbon has the profile most similar to Blantons?
Great question. Probably the closest would be the other Mash Bill #2 products that Buffalo Trace produces. That includes Ancient Age, Rock Hill Farms, Elmer T. Lee, Hancock's Reserve, and Blanton's. Buffalo Trace uses a tasting panel to ensure what goes into each product matches the flavor profile of the brand. There are definitely differences with all of these products due to aging and filtering techniques though so the products are different, even though they start out as the same recipe.
Wow...that pour he gave you of the hazmat vs the pour he gave himself. Lucky!!! Looked like he kept looking at it like he regretted giving you that much more than himself. And right as i was typing that he said to give him some lol. What a cool video. Ive come across an article about him before. Dude must be crazy rich to have a collection like that. As a bourbon collector with almost 200 bottles of bourbons and ryes that ive bought in the short 14-15 months ive been collecting, Im also not a huge blantons fan. I like it, but i would never pay more than msrp. I would love to try a gold and stfb though. but i would only get to if i win one in a lottery since i would never spend more than msrp
Thank you! Basically I do get at least one duplicate for any of the newer LMDW or Special releases that come out. That way I can try one and one goes into the collection. For the older ones, they are so rare the value and rarity of them makes it easy to resist opening. No whiskey is as good as what some of them are worth for the collection value IMO.
2 questions for Dominic: 1) what is your favorite daily drinkers right now, or favorite bourbons? 2) are you collecting any other brands now that you have pretty much completed your blantons collection?
Honestly my go-to is Woodford. Nothing fancy or special. It has a sweetness I like. In my book I start off with a background section that explains while I do love bourbon, I really like almost any alcohol. I'm more of a collector/historian of one brand than a "bourbon guy". As far as other brands, I've considered it...but I never got started on anything because my OCD would kick in and I'd have to crazy trying to find them. My bank account won't allow that after this little Blanton's adventure either 😂. Cheers!
🤣 If only. I would kill to at least see one show up someday. There's only one picture that exists which thankfully LMDW gave me permission to use in the book, even though they didn't provide any other details (I asked). I even asked them about it when I was at their store in Paris. No details other than they did sell it. It's the true Unicorn of Blanton's.
The one question I always have had about dusties that nobody has an answer for is this; Are dusties different because of time or were they always different? Can someone definitively say that a dusty tasted the same back in 1980 as it does today, or does whiskey still change over time in the bottle?
Whiskey doesn't age in the bottle like wine, but it can change. Things like sunlight for example can impact how it tastes. Likely the mash bill has gone through some changes over the years but we will never know that officially. For sure the change from charcoal to chill filtering in the mid 1990's impacted the profile of Blanton's as well. While we didn't cover it much in the video, I do go into detail in my book about how early bottles were likely aged much longer.
I drink everything actually. As I write in the book, if it's alcohol, I generally enjoy it (other than Scotch). I'm not a WT fan other than when I hang out with David Jennings who wrote the book on WT and the foreword for my book. 🙂
