19OCT2013 - Each year the United States Naval Academy Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers participate in a weekend of workshops and performances with the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers from the Royal Military College of Canada, located in Kingston, Ontario. This year, RMC spent the weekend up in Annapolis, Maryland with USNA. The Canada/USNA weekend is a phenomenal display of performers from these two great nations coming together not only to put on an excellent show, but also to create lasting friendships between the two groups.

As a Piper myself I can say it was well done by the Band and the Dancers and I don’t understand how anybody can critise them. Orange and Blue is a good tune and people shouldn’t take offence as there are loads of songs sung by Irish Republicans that I don’t take offence at. Come on let’s forget past Troubles and move on and not let Religion divide us.

Wonderful! I'm Scottish and this made me feel so proud of everyone. My daughter is learning Highland dancing and my Great Grandfather was also a Highland dancer :)

Whoever called them fat is a fool. They are not fat or lazy and they did well for people who are new at this. I'm new at this too. I started in February and it's hard to learn especially when you start as an adult like I did. Don't criticize what you don't understand

Remember these girls had no experience prior to be enrolled at RMCC , in retrospect they did wonderfully!

Charis Pinkerton its nice to see them using beginners rather than the more experienced dancer.

Seriously? That is actually a bit gutsy. I'm guessing these are military officer candidates at some Naval school in the States? Very good. I have to admit, I began to hate Orange and Blue! .....probably because I play it some many times. The dancers did very well.

My wife and I (both in Alexandria P&D) enjoyed this performance in Annapolis. Your band sounded great...well done, PM. The dancers were great too. Nice choice of tune

Tempo is too fast. This is due to the pipe major incorrectly tapping his foot on 1 and 3 instead of on 1, 2, 3, 4. The girls are to be commended for suffering having to dance on pavement - that's brutal but they kept smiling.

I've piped with "military" pipers and often they play so much faster.....I think they are forced to because of the quicker pace of soldiers on parade, and subsequently they seem to play tunes much faster than most other pipers. Just something I've noticed, having marched as a soldier and as a piper.

It has been a few years since I've played Orange and Blue, and I think this is the "correct" tempo (maybe a bit to fast).

This is around 120 bpm, which from a dancing standpoint is within the tempo range prescribed by the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (they specify 112-124 bpm in the current textbook). This is on the faster end of that scale, suited to more beginner dancers, as these dancers are. If they were Championship-level dancers, they might prefer a slower tempo, but for their level, this is fine and common. From a music standpoint, I daresay it's still a valid tempo, even if faster than some bands may choose to play it.

I did this as a teen in the 80's and I can tell you my instructor would have called this sloppy form. Knees and the feet should have been turned out more like a ballet dancer's

I wonder why the red jacket women spinned with raised arm, meanwhile black jacket women didn't ?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion! I’m Scottish, and I hated learning Scottish country dancing at high school and I know I’m not the only one who thinks this! I wish some traditions stayed in the past and were forgotten about! There was nothing in Scotland that I was proud about, ie bagpipes, our history lessons at school which caused patriotism against England which I am totally against! I love England that’s why I live there! Learning to recite poems from Robert Burns who obviously is a god to Scotland! The Scots think they have the best beers but sadly that is not true, the Scottish likes their lager, not beer! I’m not a fan of my culture!!!!!
