Sometimes you need to do whats morally right even though its illegal and go in at night under the cover of darkness and recover your deer..Its just to recover a deer its not like you are trespassing to do damage .

I tried this. Shot probably my biggest buck the morning before I left to FL for work. Gave him 8 or so hours and tried calling H/O 3 times with no answer or call back so I went in… deep. About 11:00pm we got chased out by some dude holding a lantern running his dogs after us. Lol. I’m assuming he had cell cams cuz we were way way back. I got a text the following week that someone had shot that buck on rifle opener. I looked at the picture and even talked to the dude that shot him. Only 1 hole which is clearly my broadhead hole and the guy got nervous as hell once he found out it was my arrow hole in it. Pretty sure he walked up on a dead buck and said he shot it.

I think the thing I always think about with mechanicals is the trajectory of the arrow AFTER it hits the deer. If only one blade hits the deer, the trajectory going further into the animal is different than where it initially hits. Which it can happen with fixed but less likely.

Not saying this is the case but by your description I had the exact same scenario this year. I hit a buck at 15 yards. He was slightly quartering to me. I shoot a heavy arrow set up with fixed blades so I put it right on that shoulder knowing I would blow through. Had good blood on impact and a bloody broadhead but fat covered fletchings.tracked him late I to the night with good blood. Went back the next morning and ended up tracking him over a mile. Buck never went to cover or bedded. Assuming shot deflected off of shoulder and went forward. The blood appeared was darker but had bubbles in it. After going over everything with a dog tracker we determined the buck wasn't dead. Sorry you lost that deer.

I hit a buck years back that had a lot in common with the buck you hit. Bled awesome for 300 yards, but rather than losing permission, the blood just stopped. I srsrched for two weeks and never came up with anything. Three weeks after the shot, a friend texted me saying he had shot a big buck in the same vicinity. Long story short, it was the same deer. Full of gangrene, chasing does one lung destroyed and somehow narrowly missed the other lung and heart. Worst part of hunting is losing an animal, but they're so driven to survive.

The best way to rattle and call in what u call big woods. Would be to sit in or next to brush, rattle while simultaneously kicking your feet and legs in the leaves and throwing a couple grunts in while doing all this. After your done doing that for 20 to 30 seconds. Do a trotting grunt. And wait 15 to 20 min. It works every time

Back in 2006 in Illinois I was in a fantastic spot. Nov 6 or 7. Blind rattle like 9 am and boom there he is. A giant world class 6x6 with 8 to 10 inch brows and a 22 to 23 inch spread. I'm standing up and can't move. He is looking for the fight and comes to me ducks under a down tree. I pick up my bow draw and he walks up to 12 yards. I'm aming for the good spot but for some reason he stops mid step and I hit him in the shoulder. I never saw him again..no deer no arrow no blood. Next day grid search I find nothing. 3 years later I was still looking. One of the famous bigtime hunters out there may know of someone who has the deer? That's another story. I know that deer was way over 200 inches. This is before drones and dogs.

Out of range on time I'm sure but "lack of hemorrhage comment toward straight wall cartridges" is insanity jared! I reckon you don't have any real experience with em and we don't know what we don't know so lemme teller yuns! Hehe So straight wall cartridges are typically heavy hitters,slower and heavy grainage comparatively to their cousins high powered rifle cartridges. So I'm fairly sure they are 200gr to 400grain leads and soft leads at that which means shoot a deer in de middle within the range of your specific cartridge and tge energy with hemorrhage Is devastating! Example last year with a 300gr hornady sst from me nitrofire " yes different but close" hit a doe at last rib no pass through with 120gr powder. The bullet exploded inside her producing a softball sized chunk blown out of opposite side rib cage and hit no lungs,no heart,no arties possible hit liver and the affect was deer hit the dirt k8cked twice and expired. I assumed I blew her heart,lungs,shoulders out but I made a less then optimal shot at 90yds with came on gun scope plastic glass " that's another topic😤" lol anywho these weapons create major hemorrhage and are devastating with marginal hits when you get lead weights above 200gr and especially so post 250gr

The other problem you guys have is that you use the wrong deer shooting method. You use the broadside shooting technique. Along with grunting or bleeting to stop the deer to get a standing still shot. In doing that you put the deer on high aleart. That you don't want. That is absolutely not the best technique to us. If you stop him with your voice. He stops and quarters to you. Then you shoot him quartering to you. Lending the shot angling backwards behind the shoulder. Lending itself to a gut shot deer. Where there are no vitals. When in fact there is nothing back there to cause a quick human death. It lends itself to deer going on others property that may not let you enter to look for him. Also, the deer travels and hides from you, because he is wounded and is not dead. So you got a deer that is food for coyotes. That broadside shot. Is the one that always ends up for the hunter almost always not recovering wounded deer. If you guys would always take my advice. To take only angling forward shots. Entering behind the front leg towards the opposite front shoulder. Resulting in quick human kills. And short trail jobs. Death occures in about 18 seconds. Bucause this new group of hunters that are such bad shots. When it comes to shooting deer. The angling forward shot tends to hit lungs and heart. It always makes up for poor shooting skills. When your angling 6 inches above the bottom of the deer. Just dont aim too low when making an angling forward shot. Because you are in a freestand. And most of you guys hunt from too high. Meaning your shot, if shooting from such a high position. Will go down and not forward enough to hit lungs and heart. But, only liver. So dont hunt from so high that your target is the size of a postage stamp.
@paulblackburn931
@paulblackburn931 7 месяцев назад
You use one of the best sight made. The huntig sights made. The HHA. And you dont know how to use. Its made to be shot from exactly know distances. And you miss use it. Using 30 yard pin to shoot a deer at 12 yards. That was simply some knucklehead stuff you did. Thats an HHA sight. Can be set up from 10 to 70 yard's and wit be spot on. You might as well be shooting a stivk bow. Or driving on square wheels. Even better. Try to reinvent the wheel. When that deer was at twelve yards. You could have set the sight and shot him for the exact yardage. Why buy a great sight like that, If you are not going to use it as it was designed?

No sir. You guys can't hit that 12 to 18 inch spot. Thats my point. You rely on big broadheads. It doesn't matter. If you shoot him with the biggest broadhead. If you gut, shoot him. And thats what you did. You use the big broadhead. You shoot a deer at 12 yards. Using a 30 yard pin. And you dont know where you hit him. But when you say white hair. That came from the low belly or side area . Thats where the white hair is.
@romanrestrepo5923

@paulblackburn931
@paulblackburn931 7 месяцев назад
You talk about fair chase. But you use trail cameras. Taking away from the deers basic instinks. Such as his ability te see. Hear. And smell you. You hunt him 24 / 7. Without his having any ability to know and protect himself. Where is the ethics and fair chase in that. It's simply none. And should be stopped. And the correct method of shooting deer using only the quartering away method should be used, and taught. To stop all this wounded deer by you guys.
@paulblackburn931
@paulblackburn931 7 месяцев назад
You guys are good hunters but you guys use the wrong hunting techniques. You hunt the deer. The best techniqueis to let the buck hunt what he thinks is another deer. Which is you imitating that you are a deer. In short, let the deer hunt you.

I think one of the biggest arguments against crossbow is guys taking way too long of a shot. Even at 500 fos that deer can move allot. Hitting paper at 100 yards is not the same as a deer that can move. Even a great shot shouldnt shoot over 40 or 50 yards in my opinion. Too much can go wrong at distance. A deer can still duck even with the fastest crossbows. Guys need to quit acting like they are shooting a rifle.
@ja1050
@ja1050 7 месяцев назад
You don't think there are any compound bow guys that take too far of a shot? A long shot with a faster weapon should be more successful than long shot with a slower one. Just as many compound guys flinging bad shots as xbowers and rifle shooters .
