The Himalayan Range

This is our country - India.
There is a continuous chain of mountain ranges in the northern part of the country, running through Nepal as well.
These mountains are known as the Himalayan Range.
The Himalayan Range is bordered by the Karakoram and Hindukush ranges in the north-west.
The Himalayan Range is bordered by the Tibetan Plateau in the north and the Indo-Gangetic Plain in the south.
Himalaya is a Sanskrit word. ‘Hima’ means snow and ‘alaya’ means abode. Together, Himalaya means the 'abode of snow.'
The Himalayas consist of three parallel ranges.
The Greater Himalayas or the Himadri Range
The Middle Himalayas or the Himachal Range
And the Lesser Himalayas or the Shiwalik Range.
The world's highest peak, Mt Everest is situated in the Greater Himalayas.
Some of the other high peaks in this range are Kanchenjunga, Nanga Parbat, and Nanda Devi.
The Greater Himalayan Range has many mountain passes.
A route through a mountain is called a mountain pass.
Some important passes in the Himalayan Range are Zoji La, Jelep La, Shipki La, and Nathu La.
The Greater Himalayas are covered with snow throughout the year.
Many glaciers are present in this range of the Himalayas.
Glaciers are large masses of moving ice.
Many Himalayan rivers are formed by the melting of glaciers. Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Yamuna are some rivers which originate from the Himalayas.
The Middle Himalayas are found between the Greater and Lesser Himalayan ranges.
Many beautiful valleys like Kashmir, Kulu, and Kangra are situated in this range.
Hill stations like Shimla, Mussoorie, Nainital, and Darjiling are also located in this range.
This region is well-suited for growing crops.
The thick forests of the Middle Himalayas consist of trees such as:
Pine, oak, fir, walnut, spruce, and juniper. These trees are useful to us in many ways.
This range is also famous for apple orchards and tea plantations.
The Lesser Himalayas are the southernmost range of the Himalayas. This range is made of mud and soft rocks. It is not a continuous range like the other two ranges.
The Purvanchal Range lies to the north-east of India.
It covers the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
Garo, Khasi, Jaintia, Naga, and Mizo hills lie in the Purvanchal Range.
Terrace farming is practiced in this region. In this type of farming, the slopes of a hill are cut into steps and crops are grown on them.
Rice, vegetables, pulses, and sugar cane are grown here.
The Himalayas have saved us from many invasions in the past.
They also act as a barrier to the cold winds blowing from Central Asia in winter.
The Himalayas stop the rain-bearing clouds from leaving the country. Thus, they cause heavy rainfall in many parts of northern India.
Many rivers originate from the Northern Mountains. These rivers bring down fertile soil to the Northern Plains.
The Himalayan forests provide valuable wood and medicinal plants.
These forests are home to a variety of animals such as goats, sheep, tigers, and rhinoceros.
Many tourists visit the Himalayas for adventure sports such as river rafting and paragliding.

I am from Himachal and snow covered Himalayas are visible from my hometown. There are lots of mountains where I live which many people might consider too high but when you shift your focus beyond those hills you will see Himalayas, towering over those so called tall mountains like an ice giant. After the rainfall as the sky clears up view gets even prettier and mesmerizing

Himalaya has a great impact on our Indian culture, from the ancient time it protects us from invasion by chinese. It also has great importance on our climate, it protects us from siberian wind. And most importantly our spirituality has greatly influenced by Himalayan mountain. Even today many Buddhist and Shaivites are going to mountain to attain nirvana. Himalaya represents beauty of Indic culture. Thank you, Om shanti.

Friends from Pakistan and India, no matter where we are, the Himalayas touches all of us. This range is the symbol of peace and tranquility of all the countries around it. It is not only the mountain range, but also our water source. The snow peaked mountains in the Himalayas are often considered the 'water tanks'.They feed some of the major rivers of Asia such as Koshi, Gandaki, Ganges and Mekong. Let's fight global warming and let's conserve them.

Great video! For a geographer it's really enchanting to see and feel these beauties in practice! I always have a strong fascination, love and respect for this entire range running from Afghanistan to Myanmar and finally into the Bay of Bengal! BUT, One underrated info here- Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills are not the part of the Himalayas. They are the Easternmost part of the Deccan Plateau of India. They are much more older and stable than the Himalayas. Because of this Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, Cherrapunji and Mawsynram receive World's largest rainfall, here in North-East India... Love from North-East🇮🇳👍!!!

Don't give fake information, out of total length of 2300km of total lenght of himalaya, 1100km lies in nepal with 8 of 14 peaks 8000+, don't forget chines area is 3 times larger than nepal. Your logic does not make any sense.

Plenty of holy sites & religious cultural practices of Hinduism are all over the subcontinent & not just in India-Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan etc By force or conspiracy the British colonized India but were unable to colonize Nepal, Bhutan & Sikkim coz of the mountainous region. When British left India, Sikkim became part of India. Nepal & Bhutan remained independent. Pakistan border is a scar etched by British. & With China taking over Tibet with conspiracy & force --- the open borders, shared culture & religious practices of this part of the subcontinent stood divided. Pakistan is more or less erasing/ not too involved with the ancient hindu remnants in their region, China has in a way has almost silenced n erased the ancient Tibetan existence.

Where was the need to colonize Nepal when it had become a protectorate of British? You must read the text of Segowlie Treaty of 1816, it bursts the myth of Nepali independence.

What is wrong with these butt hurt people. He never mentioned that Himalayas only belongs to India. He just showed the Indian parts of Himalayas. And first study about Himalayas , it has three ranges Himadri, Himachal and Siwalik. India has more than 400,000 sq km of Himalayas, Nepal's total area is 147,181 sq km, bhutan 38,394 sq km and china part mainly consist of Tibetian Plateau but it still has area somewhere around Nepal's, Pakistan (Mainly Pok consist of karakoram range) and the total karakoram and Himalayas is less than area of Nepal) . So first check the data to comment here.
