I still wish 4Kids didn't let their license for Pokémon expire or if they did I wish they would have gotten Funimation to do it. By season 8 of Pokémon I think Funimation stopped censoring their animes they got so if Funimation got the rights to the whole Pokémon Anime Series and seeing that they would have most likely gotten the 4Kids cast to do it I truly think they would be just as good if not a little bit better than 4Kids if they dubbed Pokémon. They can still use the New York City Area Voice Actors and Voice Actresses if they went to NYAC Post to dub Pokémon and nothing would change in the dubbing besides having Funimation as the dubbers.

I'm just glad "Shaman King" actually kept the more darker themes.

Okay, let's get more real around here, 4Kids TV is a Gen Zs Favorite Saturday morning block that Millennials Love to hate, As an early Gen Z myself born in 1998, most Gen Zs I knew really liked 4Kids TV, honestly I also liked 4Kids TV. Most of us Gen Zs didn't really care too much about anime because we were more used to watching American cartoons, So when 4Kids TV was dubbing down anime shows It didn't bother too much Gen Zs like it did with the Millennials. The only anime Gen Zs appreciated on 4Kids TV were Sonic X and Kirby right Back at Ya. Where I'm from, Most Gen Zs I knew I hated Dragon Ball Z on other channels, Pokemon was half loved and half hated (on Cartoon Network), Yu-Gi-Oh had mixed ratings on any channel it aired on, and then there's anime of franchises that were first founded here in the United States that gen Zs really loved. 4Kids TV was really good with American cartoons even if they dubbed down some great anime shows that Millennials really loved, and whether the Millennials like it or not 4Kids TV still had some success like Fox kids did.

That last part. "With you haven't seen the Pokemon movie, run, don't walk, to the nearest theatre." I'd being running FROM that theatre and try to get as far as possible from any theatre playing it.

I've always wondered when I was a kid why Sanji always had a lollipop in his mouth. Now when I watched the original dub and know about what 4kids does, I now know the reason why. People don' realize that kids are alot more perceptive than we give them credit for.

I will defend Sonix X's dub, was 4kids absoutely obnoxious with the editing oh hell yeah but I still think the show was good. The replacement's for the sonic cast all suited the charachters and infact my favorite Tails voice came from this dub. The most egrigous thing they did on this anime were Molly's death and the butchering of those final episodes, Amy palant should've been allowed to act out the proper sequence involving Cosmo's death there's no good excuse for why she was'nt able too. Aside from those glaring things though they still did a good enough job that i can rewatch anytime and I'll also say that inspite of 4kids they had some amazing voice actors too. Several of whom absolutely could've done One Piece properly, they cast Veronica Taylor as Robin, and screwed it up immensely.

I can't believe you didn't even mention TMNT 2003. It was the best show on 4Kids.

Wait. 4kids censored anime from blood and violence, but not cartoons from U.S.A. -UNrealistic U.S. cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Ed Edd n Eddy, and Happy Tree Friends. -Realistic Japanese Anime: such as One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and few.

I get cutting out sexual content and and language, but what really made me dislike 4kids is that they treated kids like they were too dumb to handel certain things like emotional scenes. And the ones that they do keep are downplayed a LOT. For example, they could have kept the ending of Sonic X and it would have been just fine. Kids wouldnt be mentally scarred buy it or anything. It would have been sad and emotional yes, but there was nothing innapropriate for chldren. In fact, MANY cartoons targeted to the same age group are MUCH more emotional. Take shows like Steven Universe for example. Kids may be stupid but they arent tottally incapable of handeling emotional things. Like they've even gone to the point where they've edited sad faces into mad faces. If anything this probably harms kids! If you just hide every single bad thing from kids they wont learn!

Zolo was not 4Kids' fault. Toei wanted him to be called that way to not have legal troubles with Hollywood. It was Toei's decision.

I actually like sonic X

I think it is really atrocious that these anime characters from Japan are singing the American National Anthem. 4kids really had some serious xenophobia back in those days. There is a difference between making cartoons appropriate for kids, to make the cartoons look like the audience never took a step to the outside world, and to make these foreign shows more American; overly patriotic (in a bad way)!

Yugioh was originally aimed at 16+ teenagers. They cut so many themes from the original anime, and even more unnecessary stuff. Like, why did they just delete Yugi's mom?! What the fuck. 4kids may have done worse to One Piece, but really, Yugioh had it pretty bad. Also many western countries took the 4kids dub and dubbed it instead of the japanese original... and thats what makes it even worse.

So 4kids were responsible for the Zelda Rap commercial? Wow. Now their terrible wannabe gangsta theme songs suddenly make a lot more sense in this context.

I'll have to agree that the pokemon dub isn't as atrocious as their other dubs, but let's not forget the jelly filled donuts that essentially became a part of LostPause's entire being.

I kind of miss 4kids in a weird way. They were the one thing all anime fans universally hated and mocked, regardless of taste. And yet if it weren't for them, a lot of us would have never even discovered anime in the first place. And honestly, the voice acting was good. I miss New York based dubs.

Also, if one of the creators of Thundercats was involved in this, then that makes me wonder... Thundercats, a show with dark themes, great characters, some suggestive/not suggestive moments such as the characters being naked (although nothing naughty was shown), and overall beautiful character development and storylines about a boy becoming a man! So if he was involved in THAT, then why did he give the okay to this? I dont know his actual purpose, as im going off a whim, but I do have that curiosity.

I liked the English version of Sonic X, it was fun to watch, yes I enjoy the Japanese version but Sonic X was a pretty big hit, enough so to have a Comic book series inspired by it, as well as bringing their voice cast into the games

Someone explain to me why the Japanese anime characters are singing the USA national anthem. I don't know much but I do know puffy is not American!

I don't know if i'm the only one who want to see Sonic X uncut, redub, unedit and remaster in 1080i HD for Toonami on Adult Swim, to appeal on older Sonic fans. I've been wanting to see Sonic X on Toonami. When they got the 4Kids version of Sonic X. They should, not only broadcast it on Fox, but also on Cartoon Network for the Toonami block. Now that Toonami returns as a block on Adult Swim in 2012, i would love to see Sonic X unedit and remaster in HD for the Toonami block, just to bring older Sonic fans.

4Kids introduced basically every kids in my area to anime, so at least they did something, even though their dubs were trash.

There is a scene in the Pokémon anime, when James (Team Rocket) is with his head in a Victreebel and it sounds like he is just talking gibberish, but... Play it backwards and you will hear: "Leo Burnett and 4Kids are the devil. Leo Burnett."

I still wished 4Kids have made the whole complete DVD collection of Winx Club, TMNT 2003, Sonic X, Ultimate Muscle and the rest of the series back then before it was shut down forever because release one or two DVD with a few episodes is not enough and I prefer the whole complete seasons collections.

Funny enough, many of the 4kids voice actors did a lot of adult anime dubs from Central Park Media.

All the text in "Sonic X" is missing because TMS removed the text for international airings. 4Kids just chose not to make English versions of the signs.

My favorite 4Kids dub was of Pokemon. Even though the changes of some things were stupid, they still managed to capture the right emotion and depth of Pokemon.

You know what I do not like about Sonic X? Comparing the voice actors from Sonic Adventure up to Sonic Advance 3, and the voice actors from Sonic X. After Deem Bristow who played Eggman passed away back in 2005, the voice actors from Sonic Adventure to Sonic Advance 3 literally got fired, and were replaced with the voice actors from Sonic X, starting with the game Shadow the Hedgehog. Thanks a lot 4Kids.

Sonic X actually was not quite as butchered as many of their other dubs. For some reason, TOKYO MEW MEW got edited more than Sonic X. Weird.

Hey, Skippy, you forgot something. In 2005, 4Kids got the rights to do the voice acting for all Sonic games starting with Sonic Rush and Shadow The Hedgehog until 2010.

You know it's kinda sad that a show about kirby and the target audience is kids and is darker than a show thats about pirates for people 15 and up

I'm more interested in how exactly did 4Kids acquire license for all these anime. Pokemon was one of their first Japanese anime and they failed horribly from the fan point of view not profit wise. But my question would be, why haven't Japanese revoke their license like they did couple years ago and made them go bankrupt. Do company's that sell these anime to the west not look at them to see how good the company that bought the license does the job and not butcher and bastardize it like 4Kids it. Why did they continue to work with 4Kids after Pokemon failure.I mean they screwed up every anime since late 90s to 2010 or so. Why hasn't anyone stop them and give Yu-Gi-Oh and One Piece license to someone else for example before 4Kids fucked everything up? I understand Funimation had their hands full of DBZ but what about other corporations. I'm not American so I don't know full details about everything but from what I heard and read this all doesn't make sense. Over here where I live in Europe we had dubbed anime on our language directly from Japanese without any cuts and edits. I grew up with Dragon Ball before it was even being aired in US. Do they really think kids over there are stupid and don't know what rice balls are or even "rice" only for that matter. I was just like 7 years old when i started watching anime back in the 90s and I knew all these "cartoons" were being imported from Japan and there was no need for total localization process except for dubbing so it would fit our language. So back to the 4Kids topic, this company might or might not have been backed up by some higher force with the aim to make it look like Pokemon,Yugioh,One Piece etc was actually an American anime and dumb it down as much as they can so kids and teenagers wouldn't suspect anything and grow up to be narrow minded and do as they're told. Don't get me wrong I have no prejudice against American people but almost everything over there is just pure entertainment with the aim to make money no matter what it is,any type of media,sport, hobby, it's all for the $$$. Looking back at this video, it has some flaws, especially considering I just feel so negative all throughout, and most just blame 4kids for most of the adults even though that was other companies doing that, granted that’s not to say if they’ve done stupid things, I still say they’re one piece dub is the biggest screwup of all time, and I understand why it’s bad, but their dubs are really not that bad, tho admittedly their older dubs are even better

Their Turtles were not that great. The figures themselves looked better than the current 3D ones which look more like Frogs. The problem is the show itself was forgetable. 3D Turtles at least tried to write the stories good depite looking crap apart from the humans.

I remember waking up early on Saturday Mornings as a little kid SPECIFICALLY to watch One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magical DoReMi, Bratz, and Winx Club on 4KidsTV. Those shows were my SHIT

You forgot that it wasn't just cencored dubs. You make it sound like the CN version of Naruto. You also said that 4kids americanisation of programs started with Sonic X which is honestly a load of nonsense. Reworked plotlines, added humours, completely different scripts, a ton of visuals edits removing text, brands references and cencorship of mature content, removal of episodes, removal of scenes, characters reworked, a completely different soundtrack. All this stuff was featured in Yu-gi-oh before Sonic X

i agree with both the videos and i like the first stages of 4-Kids they had fucking yu-gi-oh one of my fav animes but in the later years they ruined anime and its name i wish it stayed with pokemon...

What made most people hate 4kids the most is that they didn’t receive an uncut version from DVD and VHS. All they got is the butchered version on DVD and VHS.

I miss 4Kids dub of Pokemon the current one is so horrible. I wish Funimation would buy the license to the whole Pokemon Anime Franchise including the Movies and while they do current seasons of the show go back to where 4Kids ended off and get the original voice cast to do a complete re dub of it up to current. I know that Funimation would try their best to get the original voice cast to do Pokemon again. Look at Slayers when they got it they actually got the majority of the cast to return besides David Moo who didn't come back. But besides him the original voice cast from Central Park Media came back to voice their characters again so in my opinion Funimation is a company who would try their hardest to get the original voice cast to anime series that had a previous dub but the company either lost the rights to the anime or went bankrupt. I wish the workers at OLM Inc would try to get the rights to Pokemon back and give it to Funimation to dub the show.

The only shows I thank 4kids for dubbing (which they actually did well) are Shaman King, Mew Mew Power and Pokemon (The indigo league and advance series).
