Hello everyone, Skippy here, and here on my channel I aim to cover a vast number of subjects regarding the production and animation of the One Piece anime and how it stacks up to it's manga counterpart as well seeing how well it stands on it's own. Whether it be breaking down the episodes week to week, taking a look at the episodes and movies of the past or updating you on the upcoming movies, TV specials and arcs - my mission is to hopefully teach you something about the production, it's staff and the differences between manga and anime. Above all else though, I also just hope to entertain you! Set sail for sakuga and have a great time!
I just watched this episode last night, and, idk man lol. This is subjective and came up back in 2016 on forums when the Pain Naturo episode came out. There were elements of that here w/ the messy loose line work when Zoro was flying. I disagree that most of it was good, but over all, it was pretty impressive. I still think the two best OP animations were movie 6 and Strong World. Clean, good movement and still silly.
I love how a lot of people were saying Egghead would be way worse than Wano since there were some personel changes ... and here we are with maybe the best looking arc until now. Btw imagine this fight with auras lmao it just looks SO much cleaner without them
Honestly, as someone who grew up watching Disney 2D movies and animated shoes, the best part of this is the translucent smoke and the facial fish eye looks lol. But that's just me.
Everyone who worked on this episode should take immense pride. One Piece has come a long way in terms of getting its act together and this episode right here is the stuff I like to see. Not slavishly using the manga panels as a storyboard but a really nice way to expand meaningfully on this fight while also following the content. For me, the thing that sold this episode was how well paced it was. For me the mark of a well structured episode is that you don’t feel the time passing. Every moment matters. This episode is well executed and makes me proud to be a One Piece fan.
Its so weird that their first fight wasn't received well animation wise when thats literal the fight that got me into one piece anime in the first place 😂
Welcome back, this is what I prefer you doing Skippy. Your great at what you do and just like your review here, it should only be done on similar episodes that has a lot of talent allocated to it. Please branch out to other animes aswell, I would love to see you review the jujutsu kaisen episode Sakuna vs Mahoraga.
Ayooo so glad you're back man!! Awesome video as always, me and the friend who I saw the episode with literally lost our shit watching It, It was so god damn good!!! Congrats to the whole team on it.
7:38 i paused it at that exact moment and thought yamato got on ace and I was bamboozeled cause that didn’t happen but I got my vision back and saw it was momo
This episode adapted a couple more pages than the last two, and it showed. I still think 13+ pages is the sweet spot. The last two adapted 11 pages and 1089 pulled it off by having great direction, but 1090 did drag a bit with average direction.
What I like about Egghead is not only the art design or the animation but the ost and sound design. The ost really bangs so far. Also Atlas really stole this episode.
It's actually impressive just how much the pace has improved ever since they decided to have OP/ED and added an extra section that runs for 1:30 min at the very end of the episode. We didn't even have recaps at the start in 2 of the 3 episodes and the padding was minimal.
Seeing the 3D model for the island makes me think they might do some really crazy stuff with it later on. Also not related to the animation itself but I LOVE how each of the Vegapunks sound so far, they sound exactly as I thought they would. Keep up the great work Skippy!
I hope the egghead episodes are paced well all things considered. Last week’s episode I could tell was on the lower end of animation, and there were a few scenes that felt a tad bit dragged out, but it still was nowhere near unbearable. If every Egghead episode is paced as well as this, I don’t need amazing animation every week.
Great video going over the history of 4Kids. Do you think that you’ll do summaries on other dubbing companies like Bang Zoom Entertainment, Ocean, Sentai Filmworks, Cup of Tea and Viz Media?
It’s not just that it’s better, I think it just perfectly captures the manga. Like this episode is exactly how it played out in my mind. Not to mention how similar it is visually. Like down to the text this feels like oda’s work coming to life right off the page. I’m so excited to see how they handle this stunning arc
My jaw 10000 ft watching the new opening, Ishitani/Mori is a legendary duo already. Amazing stuff from Shishino, he's really incredibly good and I'm excited for what he does next. Egghead hype!!
I saw many individuals on twitter/reddit complaining about how EggHead's artstyle looked so soft and a downgrade from Wano. Now that the episode is out, no one seems to dislike it anymore. Great breakdown video! 🖌
