It took decades, but by 1953, Walt Disney was finally in a position to start working on his dream amusement park. Over the past couple years, as he moved on from the failed Disneylandia experiment, he brought the team that worked on that project into working on his nascent park. He dipped his toes in television production for the first time, and brought some of the best minds from that venture into the park planning. So when his brother Roy suggested they start a new side company completely owned by Walt, he already had a list of names to start move over to this new venture. These were the first official Imagineers.
In this seven part series, we explore the experiences that shaped Walt Disney's desire to build his own magical world, and how he eventually came to realize that dream.
