My favorite thing about this video is how quick the 20th century goes by. Really puts the perspective into how the last 200 years are just a flash of light

The way the Hunnic Empire just appeared, killed Rome and then disappeared still baffles me.

Fun fact: at the height of the Roman Empire according to this video it had 52 million people. No European country would get to this number until 1827 when Russia did. This record was kept for almost 2,000 years

Simply put the most fascinating and vibrant continent.

It's actually arguable that Northern Wales was the last bastion of the Western Roman Empire as the Romans nor the British officially declared an end to the Roman province. Troops were only withdrawn, with England being the only area carved up by the Saxons. Not until 1284 was Wales finally conquered.

We all have ancestors that fought and survived these wars but it's still crazy to see entire nations I've never even heard of before completely wiped out of existence. I used to think we were done with shifting borders and world wars but the close tie between war-economy-greed necessitates it. The epic cataclysms that happen every now and then are just a giant "CHILL THE FUCK OUT" from the universe because nothing brings humanity together quite like the brink of extinction.

Imagine all those people who fought and died for their Kingdom only for it to end up being a small blip in history. Or even the larger empires that conquered so much only to fall and get replaced by many other nations in the future. It kind of makes everything feel so insignificant.

А вот те государства, которые обрастают новыми территориями не торопясь, оказываются более прочными. Хотелось бы увидеть корреляцию между скоростью прироста новыми территориями и временем удержания этих территорий.

It's an interesting perspective how on this timescale WW2 seems like such a flash in the pan, while also showing how incredibly fast the warfare and political turmoil was compared to anything in the past. Within one year the borders changed in a way that would have taken Rome decades.

Is it because of population numbers that the Frisians are left unmentioned? Frisians had an area from the North West of the Netherlands up to North Germany and half Denmark. In the German and Danish parts of today there are still people who speak in a dialect that have a lot of similarities with the Frisian language. Today the Frisian language ( which btw have commonalities with old English ) is mainly spoken in the Northern province Friesland of the Netherlands. Today Frisian is the second official language in the Netherlands. But I believe there are less than a million people who speak Frisian on a daily base. But since Friesland has an history of it own apart from the Netherlands I more or less to see that represent in the video.
