Slight correction: The video mentions that the women's epee event was first introduced in 1966 when we meant to say that it was introduced in 1996. Thank you to Judy O'Donnell for pointing this out!

The wireless system is really only used at high level events, and even then, we didn't see it at this years worlds, since it's made by StM -- a Ukranian company, and the war got in the way of them sending techs to the event. The vast VAST majority of events worldwide are held with the competitors physically connected to the scoring system.

when they trialled a wireless system in Australia it was sabotaged by a guy called jeff g. as he had a remote (or so I heard.. years ago)

A little fact Aladár Gerevich (16 March 1910 - 14 May 1991) was a Hungarian fencer, regarded as "the greatest Olympic swordsman ever". He won seven gold medals in sabre at six different Olympic Games. As a person he was a nice guy too.

Swords are separate from fencing. Spain 🇪🇸 originated fencing. The Roman's/Italians invaded Spain. The romam catholic church banned fencing. The Celtics invaded Spain then the moores invaded including north Africa, Turks and Arabs. All of these backgrounds all historically claimed fencing yet all invaded Spain and some tried to ban it from its originators.

The 1800s of England 🇬🇧 & France 🇫🇷 came after the 15th - 17th century of fencing in Spain 🇪🇸 that was historically documented. The main invasions into Spain were the 15th - 17th century and entire century prior to the 1800s in England 🇬🇧 & France.

It was interesting and well-produced. You mispronounced Kárpáti's name, however. Hungarian names, like all Hungarian words, have their accent on the first syllable, not the second, as you have done with Kárpáti's name.

At 7:16 you start talking about foil fencing but showed a picture of saber fencing. But, the description of the target area is for saber fencing. Tiny inconsistency, doesn't take away from the main point of the slide. Good video though

Il est assez cocasse d' ignorer l ' apport de la France dans l' art de l' escrime, alors que les mousquetaires semblent si populaire à Hollywood ... Snober le fait que pendant très longtemps les traités d' escrimes étaient en langue française, et Paris la principale place éditrice de ceci .. Par ailleurs, snober une nouvelle fois, l ' influence de la Cour de Louix XIV dans de le port de l' épée courte , auprés des Courts européennes .... Je passe sur l' absence de l' évocation du Traité de Lafaugéres ... N' en vous déplaise la Culture française à des racines multiséculaires, voir millénaire ...

was it true about vezzali that it was becasue of her letting her mask bib get longer and longer (and covering her lame when the bib max length shoudl be collar bone i think) that is the reason we ALL have to have lame bibs for foil?
