After eight centuries of Imperial Citadel of Thang Long being the capital of the Ly, Tran, and Le dynasties, the Nguyen Dynasty transferred its historic role to Hue Citadel. And the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long became the headquarters of the North newly named "Hanoi Castle."
