Yeah, and I do feel for the American soldiers we sent off to die there. They didn't even have a good cause to fight for either, unlike in WW2. They were just straight up sent on yet anther anti-communist, imperialist mission to crush a socialist nation, that may I remind you was popular and functioning, just to secure more capitalist puppets. All those young men, wasted on an awful war, only to return home to get kicked some more. Tragic, screwed up, and disgusting.

As a Vietnamese person i still have living relatives that were subjected to these tortures, my grand uncle was taken as a prisoner of war and was taken to a concentration/labor camp nearing the end of the war and was subsequently subjected to torture. He was tortured so badly that he was essentially castrated by his wounds, he was starved and beaten only to be put into hard labor, his wife and family believed him to be dead until he one day returned home after more than a decade only to find out his wife had remarried to a northener, like salt in the wound as everyone genuinely thought he had died, He is such a kind and forgiving man, his children even the ones that weren't his still love him and visit him regulary and likewise he loves them all dearly despite everything that has happened to him.

@@brendenharper9898 The awnser is a complicated No, as the the circumstances at the time really did not allow for a divorce to be possible. (post war Vietnam was a an absolute mess and legal issues such as divorce in a country that still to this day remains a systematic & cultural nightmare) basically, there was no hope for any sort of reconciliation between the two, and considering the circumstances it was the only logical thing to do (being a widow in post war Vietnam was a death sentence with 10+ children to feed), though of course that didn't make the fact sting less. She found someone else to take up the mantle of a husband, to a widow with 10+ children no less, the fact that it was northener is just cruel irony and not to a fault of either him or my uncle's ex wife, it was due to circumstance. Frankly my grandmother, (granduncles's sister) was more angry at the fact than he was, my grand uncle settled with being able to see his kids and eventually moved to the US with them (including the ones he didn't sire), they still regularly visit him and he remains single to this day.

I visited the Hanoi Hilton five years ago. It’s a museum now, or what’s left of it. Most of it was torn down after the war. First built by the French and the late 1800s, and they had lots of ingenious little ways of slowly torturing prisoners. The portion of the exhibit dealing with what they call “the American war“ is relatively small, including a propaganda video, showing American POWs playing volleyball and so on. The ones who “went along to get along,“ so to speak. About what you would expect. But again, it wasn’t something they really harped on. Most of the exhibit was devoted to the French treatment of Vietnamese political prisoners.

It’s important to remember that the Vietnam “war” wasn’t actually a legal war. America hasn’t had a legal war since WWII. The Vietnamese knew this at the time. The Vietnamese saw American pilots dropping bombs on their cities the same way we would see random dudes dropping bombs on our cities: criminal violence, not legitimate actions in a legal war. So, when they would shoot down American pilots with their defenses and caught the pilots, they would treat them the way you’d treat any criminal that takes an airplane and drops bombs on Dallas or NYC. As you could imagine, the people of those cities would be angry at them, and they’d endure the worst the infamous American “justice” system could dish out.

Interesting video, but I recommend you make another video about Phu Quoc Prison which is also as notorious as Ha Noi Hilton a.k.a "Hoa Lo Prison". The life of P.O.W. in Phu Quoc Prison was terrible and they suffered ruthless torture which can cause goosebumps when you imagine it. War is miserable and I don't provoke war by any means, but I believe that the story of war should be analyzed from different perspectives in order to gain insight about the conflict. The brutality of Phu Quoc prison was somewhat as same as Ha Noi Hilton. P/s: In living conditions in Phu Quoc Prison were awful and prisoners were always being abused by US officers and ARVN wardens. I don't know if there was a coincidence but the " Tiger Cage" method was also a warden's favorite torture method too. When I visited Phu Quoc Prison, I saw some traumatized photos, and some prisoners' skulls were killed when they try to escape.

It wasn’t a war. That’s why the north Vietnamese did this. Basically, since it wasn’t an actual legal war, they arrested American pilots and sentenced them as if they were just some guys dropping bombs in people from airplanes. Just like in America, if some guy was dropping bombs from airplanes, that person would be arrested and sentenced. The people were angry because they basically saw them as criminal murderers that dropped bombs on their communities, not military pilots dropping bombs as part of a legitimate war. @@Justin-pe9cl Except the US was propping up the south in a bid to overthrow the popular, more beloved socialist north. We may not have invaded in the dictionary sense, but by God did we sure try to commit our usual nonsense regardless.

You know the feeling of losing your family during US-pilot bombing Hanoi ? Ever felt powerless when a fricking cluster bomb kill your parents ? Of course there have to be some "little" punishment for these pilot, even they have no idea they have bombed houses and hospitals.

@@kuroharuhito You have forgotten this fact that the North Vietnamese soldiers were truly evil invaders, they invaded South Vietnam, they massacred, tortured, mistreated, kidnapped, used bombs and mines to terrorize the people of South Vietnam. That's why more than a million Viet Cong had to receive retribution just for their inhumane actions😅

There is no denying that the Vietnam War was terrible. More than a million Viet Cong soldiers had to die just because they successfully invaded South Vietnam, which they euphemistically called "liberation".

@@dosidicusgigas1376 Hmmmmmm Now there is an interesting steampunk idea- or perhaps alternate history? Massive Tanks designed as literal mobile trench’s- big enough that there treads _make_ the trenches? Or perhaps big enough that they _are_ the trenches? Is it perhaps more efficient to spend a divisions worth of men in a giant mechanical tank to do battle with other giant mechanical tanks? With some poor supporting ground infantry and high flying pilots in little planes to protect the armoured behemoths?

My neighbor Mr. Hai is 82 years old, he used to be a nurse at Hoa Lo Prison, he served there from 1968-1973 he said that most US soldiers are treated very well and they are propagated. about the atrocities committed by the US military in Vietnam they were informed about Vietnamese culture and cuisine on Tet holiday they were able to enjoy themselves, he said that there were some cases of North Vietnamese soldiers feuding because of their relatives. they were killed in bombardment so they attacked the prisoners, they were also punished very severely after that these hate attacks happen very rarely and this is not torture don't exaggerate like So, almost 50 years have passed, stop being like that, stop exaggerating, stop lying, let the memory of this dirty war go far away.
