I was a mathematics/science teacher in Australia before retiring in 2010. I had a video with various short stories about science and maths. My students were always surprised to learn that the concept of zero was developed in India in about 500 AD and it took 200 years to get to the middle East and 700 years to get to Europe, arriving there in the 1200's. I find Indian science and mathematics facinating and unfortunately not many people know of the extensive contributions India has made in this area.
You have the courage to give recognition, most of the western intellectuals though aware, shy to speak out. Zero or Sunya is the foundation of Hinduism. It is doesn't mean nothingness but the source to create everything. Without zero there is no 1 and so on. It represents the Nirguna Brahma or the sate of non-duality. Very few people understand the logic of Sunya or zero.
@mahendra singh I think you mis-read what @wakatuvia tried to indicate. He said o (zero) was documented (written in a book) around 500 AD; but it was developed much earlier (may be 5000 before or so) and was very much in practice by 500 AD.

It was misinterpreted as sunya ( means nothing ) sunya vaada by later budhism people ( though that's not what was earlier budhists meant) ...that's why budhism was sent out of India by Adi shankaracharya Poornamadah poornamidam sloka is about this secret of completeness.

In Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) from Karnataka, which is one of the South Indian languages. The number symbols were written in this way ೧ = 1 ೨ = 2 ೩ = 3 ೪ = 4 ೫ = 5 ೬ = 6 ೭ = 7 ೮ = 8 ೯ = 9 ೧೦ = 10 and goes on .... We have been using this number symbols while writing numbers in Kannada language.

One such unit is a "Maha-Kalpa" which is composed of 36000 such days of Brahma. One Maha-Kalpa is considered as the lifetime of Brahma. There are time units which are larger than one Maha-Kalpa. The largest of them has been calculated as several quadrillions of human years. This precise and massive calculations indicate one important aspect of vedic time system, that, whenever the term "Infinity" has been mentioned in Vedas, it does not indicate something very large. Instead, it appears that the term is meant to refer its literal synonym itself.
