Former GM of the Carolina Hurricanes Jim Rutherford was the first to do it when his friend painted a simple design on his goalie mask when he was playing for the Detroit Red Wings
Love the video my dude. I love what Adidas is doing for teams in creating a jersey that emulates the sweaters of old. I hope one day we see ccm produce pure wool turtleneck hockey sweaters again. Cuz those were cool.
You should do a vid on THE SWEATER by Roch Carrier. It's a famous Canadian children's book and short animated vignette. Cute story about a French-Canadian boy who asks for a Rocket Richard Montreal Canadiens sweater for Christmas but his mom gets him a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater and his upset. Very cute. You'd like it. I even think the vid is on RU-vid. Love your channel man . I subscribed the other day.
I expect Adidas to add more "out-there" alternates in the next few years. For example, Vegas is expected to add a gold third. Minnesota was about to add a fairly unique third for next season, but the team has apparently scrapped it. Adidas is likely to add "fourths" for almost all teams (a lot may just be outdoor game sweaters or throwbacks though), but starting with New Jersey, Los Angeles, Edmonton and St. Louis as soon as next season. According to icethetics, Montreal may add a blue sweater at the end of the 2020-21 season.
You should do a jersey collection video, I love seeing people’s collections. Only downside is that it makes me want to spend money that I don’t have on jerseys to increase my collection 😂
The biggest surprise in this video was learning what a reasonable mic looks like if you are going to have a proper RU-vid channel. Keep up the good work. I'm binge wachin ya today. 👍
In the video you mentioned that in the 1950s the NHL mandated contrasting colours with the home wearing bright and the visiting wearing dark. I always remembered that the 1967 Leafs team clinched at home in blue, but I wasn't sure about the 1950s. So I looked up some videos. It seems a bit erratic. For example, when the Leafs clinched the 1951 Cup (with the Barilko goal) they did it at home wearing white. But when the Canadiens clinched the first of their five straight in 1956 they wore dark jerseys at home. So I guess the rule was clashing colours but not specifically home white and road dark.
It wasn't until 1967 that it became official that home teams wore colors and road white. This changed in 1970 when it switched to home white and road colors. No announcement was ever made as far as I know as to why the change. I personally like colors for home team, like the NFL.
@@loldude8783 I used to like the colours for the home team. But then I heard a counter-argument that made me change my mind. If the home team wears their colurs, then fans will only see visiting whites. But if the home team wears whites, they get to see all kinds of different colours.
Great video 👍! As N.Y.R. Fan, I collect them ,when I can. I have a strange one. Made by starter. It’s brick red , white letters with dark blue trim (around the letters. The Rangers name in the front. No number or player name.
My favourite all time jersey is the Colorado Avalanche jerseys they wore when they first came and what they have now. My least Favourite are the Canadians Candy Cane jersey from the 2000s, it was terrible
Plenty of people call it a "jersey" or a "sweater". I end up using it interchangeably, primarily saying "jersey" but occasionally saying "sweater". As long as you're not saying "guernsey", you're fine.
Thank you. The first idiot I heard refer to a hockey sweater as a jersey was Gary Buttman....who had absolutely no clue about hockey when he was hired as commissioner. He also referred to crests as logos. People also now refer to alternate captains as assistant captains.....idiots.
@@de132And they are wrong. Football, basketball, and baseball has jerseys...hockey has sweaters with crests. Hockey is a foreign sport in the USA. Americans also use terms like assistant captain, locker room, boxscore, neutral zone, defender, special teams, visors...where the correct terms are alternate captain, dressing room, game summary, centre ice, defenceman, power play and penalty kill, and face shield. This is akin to referring to quarterbacks as pitchers.
