Luminox is a profoundly recognizable name in modern watchmaking. Having a solid bearing on the affordable military dive-watch market, many swear by this brand-and nothing else.

I was in the Marine Corps had a luminox watch new a couple of Navy SEALs they thought it was pretty humorous that people would buy these watches basically called them posers or wannabes they wore G-Shocks broke my luminox after about a month nightmare trying to get it serviced so I went with what the seals were wearing G-Shock still have it to this day no problems with it whatsoever and I beat the hell out of it

Well i really wouldnt care what couple of seals would think of my watch. They are elite soldiers not watchmakers. They propably bought g shocks because somebody told them thats what seals wear. I too had g shock when i was serving. Worked fine until i had to change batteries and after that it started to collect water under the glass. And i wasnt the only one whos g shock would start letting water in after changing batteries.

Look, my father gave me one of his Luminox watches that he bought in the early 2000’s. I’ve had it almost 13 years since I was like 10 or 12 and it still works. Countless fishing trips, dive trips, and many wildlife photography expeditions later it still spins. I actually got charged by a boar on a hunting trip in Texas recently resulting in a 20 foot roll down a hill and the watch is still going.

They look good, but from experience and feedback from the UK armed forces, at least, most military types buy G shocks, by far. I quite fancy getting a Leatherback Turtle one and I see that they now make a Sellitta movement one, too, for under $1000, which is fairly impressive. For a super cheap lookalike for nearly no money, the Casio MRW200H is ultra tough, too, however the crystal is plastic and the lume is poor, but if anything they'll take an even bigger beating than a Turtle. Great video.

I got one of the limited edition Japan tsunami edition (A.3007.JTAF) in 2012 for a steal online and have been using it for camping or night hiking.. basically anything I do in the dark... I hear the movement's easily damaged when changing the battery, so I tend to do it myself... and inspect/change & oil the gasket... I've smashed it, slammed it, gone swimming, fishing... Things held up well so far... it's Gone through 2 rubber straps and the cloth Velcro one.. The lum is starting to dim, but still quite visible... I just found a discontinued 3803 model online for cheap (-$300) so I figured I'd jump on it. We'll see if that one is just as good.

Great history check, and the reason why I’ve landed in your comment section is with regards to what people think of LUMINOX?? I’ve just recently landed a Land Series, and with my first impressions being it’s plastic and expensive, to later see it’s a well made no fuss watch. I own a few G-Shocks, but things on a technical side can go wrong that it’ll be too expensive to fix, and why are so many knocking RONDA movements, of course they’re cheap, but only in price, and compared to mostly all mass produced movements, they’re all cheap in reality. I feel those who know LUMINOX have never used one in its made for conditions, it’s so easy to shout on the fence, but to have an honest view and opinion, you need to have used one. I’m impressed so far, is it worth the money, well if it’s still working in 30yrs then absolutely. Cheers for sharing, have liked, subbed and hit the bell icon to give you support as you deserve a load more subs!

I agree with you 100%. I purchased four luminox watches (all of which I still own) because I like the different models. I also own a GShock watch. I love it as well. Both watches are well known, and well made. I think some complain about them, because they have nothing better to do. My thought is, that if you don’t like it, go find one that you do, and comment about it.

I like the looks and mostly the luminosity of my model 1820 but I can't say it is that reliable. I will be needing to replace the entire movement for the second time in only 10+ years. For the price, I expect more than that. For a watch that is so expensive, why do they put in such a cheap movement? I was surprised that I could buy the complete movement myself for only $29, a Harley Ronda 3 Hand Quartz Watch Movement HQ517B-DY- Day. Maybe I will try fixing it myself, how hard could it be? I previously owned Seiko automatic for over 20-years without ever having to service it once... not even a battery as it doesn't have one. Unfortunately, I lost it in a motorcycle accident where it was ripped off my arm and never recovered (the watch, my arm was fine except for a little blood).

This was a great video and pretty accurate. I bought my first Luninox navy seal watch from the "barry Cohen marketing group based out of NJ in 1989. Thr only place selling them was a magazine catolog called sportsman guide. It was $199 .which was big money back than. The only brand i e ever worn. I have a few of the limited editions such as the 9/11 and thr " no man left behind". I just bought the Ice Sars . Great dependable watch. But let me say two things. First beware of counterfeits and second, if thr battery need changing please dont go to the mall,!use an authorized dealer

I have had multiple of these watches since 2002. I think the truth is they are used by cops and EMTs, not Navy SEALS. A major plus of this type of watch is you don't have to take your hand off something (like a gun) to see the time at night, by pushing a button. That is a big plus for a soldier or cop. Personally I think these watches are a bit over-hyped and over-marketed, but I love the glow at night and it is one watch if I had to choose one, I would keep.
@Donnybrook10

I'm a cop and when I was young and dumb, I fell for the Seal marketing campaign. There weren't alot of options for duty watches back then. The lumination on mine was crap and completely died before the warranty was up. I was just too lazy to send it in. These are the most basic watch you can get. Analog time and day only which I like but the numbers are so tiny I can't see them. No how, no way could a diver see them under water. Overhyped is right. They're a fancy Timex

Thank you for this review. I learned this company is anything but Swiss. Unfortunately I already bought a Luminox for just under $400. Good price, I guess so. But the rotating bezel on this "Navy Seals" professional diver's watch has a lot of play in it, i.e. it wiggles and wobbles like a toy. I understand better that the Luminox company, headquartered in San Rafael, CALIFORNIA, a small town I'm quite familiar with, is more marketing based than it is engineering or quality based. What am I going to do w8ith the Luminox "Navy Seals" Pro Diver watch I just purchased? Send it back and get a complete refund I hope! Thank you so much for this edifying review!

G-Shock is rugged, affordable anb practical. Sinn is tool watch with a cult following composed of mechanical watch users and collectors who focus more on simplicity and overall build quality than history and marketing. Although not as vomit inducing as Bell & Ross or Panerai, I have never had any desite to own a Sinn and would opt for a Glycine or Favre-Leuba before Sinning..

My Timex has been dong a great job in the rugged department. G Shock are nice watches as well. That said my Luminox is simple to set and read unlike my G shock which is one of the reasons I gave it away. No issues just was not using due to it being hard to read and set.

😂😂I would not recommend purchasing any Luminox watch, as they have poor quality despite being expensive. Although the watch claims to be water-resistant up to 200 meters, the dial became fogged after a single swim. Additionally, the strap broke within 5 months, and fixing the foggy glass within the warranty period cost me an additional 5,000. Playing with people’s safety
