The history of MLP G5 LEAKS (2017-2021) 

Watching the Fandom go from absolute horror to the original leaks, to accepting them, to absolute horror AGAIN at the official leaks, to once again accepting them, has been a ride.

Honestly, I actually would have been a bit disappointed had they kept the Mane 6 for the Main Characters of G5, not because I don't like them but I feel the series needs a bit of a refresh. From what I've seen I'm liking the Mane Cast so far, Sunny looks great, Izzy looks like a fun character, I actually really like the Idea of having a Male character in the Mane Group.. Pipp and Zipp are cool too :). Looking forward to Friday and the Movie, should be a goodun.

I honestly believe that the original leaks were real but then they changed them up on the spot to punish both the leaker and everyone who threw a bitch fit about the redesigned six.

im already obsessed with g5, iv memorized all the info already and i consider myself a hitch stan. he is so adorable.

I swear Pipp is based on a G1 pony since there's one with a pink mane who is similar about being royal and being into femininity and confidence. Though she wasn't an influencer for obvious reasons.

I'm glad they went in a different direction rather than just rebooting the mane 6 while still tying it into Friendship is magic with the timeskip.

Why do I feel like the redesigned Mane 6 are part of a possible reboot if G5 doesn't do well or sell enough merch?

Mlp has never really been good at keeping things secret (except the final episode of Friendship Is Magic “The Last Problem”, they didn’t let ANYTHING spoil or ruin such an amazing ending).

The g5 designs took a while for me mostly cause I’d love the animation of g4 so much but there really cute! So far I’m not fully sure who my fav is if I had to pick I’d say sunny im not sure why I just find her really cute and feel like she’s gonna be fun hype for Friday!!!

I’m glad they didn’t reuse the main characters from G4. Obviously it’s normal for characters to be ported to the next gen with totally different personalities but to reuse the entire set of main characters would just invite too many comparisons and make it harder for G5 to be it’s own thing.

THE MIKU PONY EXISTS They announced a Hatsune Miku Bishoujo figure some time ago, and it includes a MLP style Miku pony next to a semi-realistic Hatsune Miku. Its insane if they've been having concept since years ago

The absolute nostalgia in this, haha. I can't believe I've been in here for all of this, I even remember I wrote a note on one of my drawers about four years ago saying "G5 Coming soon!" and I can't believe it's actually here now. After all the leaks and the speculation it's finally here. I remember being so excited and scared at times for the future of the franchise, and I think the waiting paid off. I'm even starting to feel nostalgic from the wait, I was there too for the Investor Event, sitting through 2 hours of it for less than a minute of pony content. Oh the good times.

My personal favorite fake G5 leak was this 4chan post from March or April 2021, where Hitch was Sunny’s “weird brother”, Pipp was a Queen instead of a princess and her last name was Altitude instead of Petals, and the neon city from the 2017 concept art was involved, and Kirin lived there. Sunny idolized an activist named Maya Hartsworth who got elected president of Equestria and then made Sunny steal the elements of harmony for her, so she can kill all the non-earth ponies, Izzy gets mad at Sunny for caring more about her public image than the real cause, Sunny apparently, and I quote, tells Izzy to “get the hell out”, and then Sunny literally shoots and kills Maya offscreen. It’s so unbelievably dumb that it’s hilarious!

The "leak" with the main characters including a bat pony, a kirin, etc, was definitely fake; Hasbro would never have a main cast that didn't include a pegasus, a unicorn, and an earth pony. It wouldn't make sense from a toy-marketing perspective.

I’m pretty happy they decided to go with new characters. If they went with the mane 6 again it’d just feel like backtracking to me, we’ve already seen their character arcs, why do that again?

Honestly I think the concept of each pony race having their own planet then meeting in a hub (pun intended) world is a much more interesting concept than what we got.

i actually like row 4, it feels super expressive. I even like the faces alot. An interesting note is the lack of cutiemarks

Those new creatures like the one based on Danny DeVito need to show up in G5! Please! In all seriousness I would love these worlds like Rainbow Lake or those anthro creatures or other scrapped concepts to still be used in G5.

If they reused the old characters it would just be G4.5

Twilight from row 2 kinda gives me vibes from Panty and Stocking. On a side note I would love new characters altogether as to me I feel like if they kept the old mane 6 it probably won't be that good, got nothing agaisnt the old mane 6.

I just want you to know, while I’ve been fascinated with the Brony fandom for years, I never watched Friendship is Magic. But your iceberg video made me curious to try it. And while I do not see how it was good enough to spawn an entire fandom made of mostly twenty something men on 4chan, it’s definitely good for a kids show. Very cute. Comforting for background noise while I play Stardew valley.

I was there during the 2017 leaks. I clearly remember they did not believe about that leak schedule because the fandom was not ready if the show is coming to an end. When the leak was confirm about a month before S9 premiere, let's just say the fandom was panic. Well, not much but it was there and start planning for pony events.

Unfortunately the only engagement I'm currently in for the community is on Instagram which isn't really that connected but what I remember and still experience is the massive debate if G5 is ''good'' or ''bad'' XD. So much love but also negativity sorounding the film

i have absolutely no way of proving this, but one of the character designers on mlpgn is my teacher, we screened the movie and had a qna a few days ago, and we got shown concept art and told how the story evolved! the first script with the new characters was written by the same guy that wrote the lego movie, and was apperantly very funny but had too many adult themes (hitch had a murder attempt montage on izzy) also hitch and sprout was the same character the dad was supposed to be a main character and he spent a lot of time in jail for being pro-unity again i have no way of proving this without doxxing myself but just sitting on this info without dumping it on Someone is killing me so here you go

I actually loved the G5 more than G4. Obviously, G4 will always have a place in my heart but it's extremely healthy to move on from old childhood shows. G4 (I think) did a way better job explaining the world than G4 did. I was a little kid when I first watched the show, so I didn't know about all the Equestria stuff. I just saw bright ponies on the screen. Anyways, My fav char from G5 has to be Izzy

i havent been as excited for a movie as i am with the g5 movie in a long time :S i was too young to get into the mlp fandom when the show first came out so im excited to be at the beginning of what im hoping to be a great generation and fandom :D

I wish they kept a similar concept of the more and world building from 2020 G5 but changed the characters rather than recycling the original mane 6

The redesigns of the mane 6 at 0:46...I have no idea how it blew up to those proportions (that everyone thought the'd be the new G5) , but I clearly remember an artist on DeviantArt made those as just a fun side project. I cannot remember their username, but I remember there was NO inclination they would be in G5. So when the hype was going around the community I was extremely confused and never really fell for it as a true "leak".

I would have really liked to see these versions of the mane 6 on screen. Sigh, it's too bad they didn't make it.

While we can say that G5 isn't anywhere close to how the very first concept art leak looks, I definitely see a connection. The style of wings, which are shown on Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie seems to look very similar to how Zipp and Pipp's wing styles are. The coats can be connected too, as now many ponies have more complex patterns on their coats just like the leaked concept art has.

Didn't know about the 4Chan leaks, but I would've dug the different species mane 6 which give me a student 6 vibe (especially with bat ponies and kirins becoming fan favorites). And I remember the early leaks stating that Applejack would've started off as an antagonist before becoming an ally, which seems like what might happen with Sprout in the ANG series.

While I don't hate the Gen 5 we got (There are many things I enjoy but I definitely do have my criticisms) I'm very disappointed in the missed opportunities of the original concept I really love the redesigns of the mane six And it's much easier to imagine an alternate reality of our main cast than it is to CANONICALLY accept that everything everyone worked so hard for in G4 is just...gone Not just for the ponies But the Kirin, the dragons, the griffins, the hippogriffs Every creature is divided once again I just hope the series will actually explain what happened

This "super weird time" in the fandom where everyone subsists off of hope and vague leaks and spins wild stories about what they hope the future could hold? That's the state of the pokemon fandom every other year.

it's literally an hour before the movie releases, but whatever. my theory is that the updated mane 6 designs may be used as mythical stories, or a mural. we know it's in the same equestria, and that the mane 6 didn't look like that. but the g5 ponies likely don't know they didn't look like that. they might not even consider the mane 6 real. so these altered designs may be interpretations of the mane 6 based on years of storytelling, and the extra design features like rarities headdress and rainbow dashes rainbow wings may have been added to make them seem more impressive, since they are mythical heroes to them. and the reason that sunny has accurate depictions in her room is because argyle is a historian. of course he would know that the mane 6 were real ponies.

LEZ GO TOH!!!! ✨✨✨✨ (Also her name is pronounced DAY + nuh, sorry if that sounds kinda mean I don't mean to) But Dana wouldn't have time to do the animation anyway since she is still working on The Owl House, which is halfway over already :') Dispite her being the director/creator of the show, she still animated parts of the show now and then. Even though it's a 2D show the shading, effects and the animation has improved SO much after the last 2 episodes of season 1, which were the major plot point episodes: Agony of a Witch, and Young Blood, Old Souls. (HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING!!!!!! ITS SO AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!!! But make sure to watch the begining and throughout of season 1 bc of context and stuff!! The first half of season 1 arnt that bad, but they really start to progress in storyline starting on episode 10 of season 1: "Escape of the Palisman".) She also listed as the first one in the credits with "story by", along with some other people who helped her it's the story. Though Im TOTALLY on board with the idea of Dana doing some of the animation for G5, she has her own story and animation to keep working on. I WOULD TOTALLY 1000000000% SEE THAT THOUGH!!! I SERIOUSLY NEED/WANT A CROSSOVER OF THESE SHOWS!!!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺😁😁😁😁✨✨✨✨

And also remember the weird twilight is now a earth pony but still has a star themed cutie mark well what other main character is a earth pony and is star themed cutie mark: Sunny Starscout.
