I want to know more about Sunny's dad. Seriously, who *is* this pony: Why does his journal have Twilight's cutie mark on the cover? Why is he the only pony who believed in the gen4 history and that the different races could get along? How does he have the Earth Pony Crystal? Why is there a secret how symbol that shows how to put the crystals together in his house? How does he know about *any* of this crystal/magic stuff? How did he die? *Who is this man???*

Earth ponies have magic. They are stronger than the other races and have a deeper connection to nature. Faust explained it herself that the pony world would not function without them

I cried when they hinted that Sunny's dad died. They had this nice and cute moment when she was a kid with her dad and then it cuts to her talking to the picture of her father. Sis had the audacity to sing "it's gonna be my day" as I'm crying. 😭😭

My biggest critique is that… well you can kinda tell Kimiko Glenn (Izzy) is the only real voice actor there. She’s the only one with significant voice acting experience, and you can kinda tell that from how much personality Izzy’s vocal performance has compared to the others.

"earth ponies get nothing" actually in the final scene we see an earth pony walking along and their hooves glow, which to me seems to imply that either Earth ponies have new magic now or Earth ponies have always had a form of magic that was unknown until this point and is now returning. I just hope that they actually address this in the show following this

I love Izzy. She’s a great balance of being comic relief while not being obnoxious or annoying, I like that her humour is more quiet and goofy rather than just yelling random stuff and doing physical gags all the time as a lot of comic relief characters in kids cartoons do. She’s a joy to watch

You know, normally when things have CGI reboots it looks horrible, but the new style is super cute. I think I actually like it more than the previous one! The colors are so soft and pastel-y, it kind of reminds me of claymation which is neat.

I got big 'The Force Awakens" vibes, with "The old heroes being famous but nobody knows where they are", and "The world changing dramatically on the heroes watch but it's never explained how" but I thought this was a good starting point, and since it's going to be a series, there's going to be plenty of time to explain things. They better explain things.

To be honest, I'm so used with the previous gen's ponies because of how big of a cultural impact it has brought to the Internet. Seeing this new one at first glance is hard to accept that there's a new generation

Aren’t Alicorns/Princesses supposed to live for thousands of years? Like wasn’t Luna and Celestia there during the caveman eras of ponies? If so, how many years of gen 4 have passed for Twilight to not be around anymore, or did she just… vanish? Speaking of Luna and Celestia, where are they? Dead or still on their magical retirement journey around the globe?

It looks like the faaaaaaar future. And the theme of MLP gen 4 Harths- warmth Eve holiday thing, just played out again. I like it. It's fine. And Earth ponies definitely have magic. Oh yeah, even the crystals needing a spark plays out here too.

Nitpicks: -I'm still confused as to why they didn't explain how the segregation happened in the movie that is meant to introduce the new generation -What happened to the alicorns (Immortality or just unnaturally long life spans) -Are the others still locked in Tartarus? -Aside from walking on clouds and being immune to the high altitudes of the sky, plus changing weather I guess why do Pegasus need magic to fly? -They can glide and flex/flap their wings, but they can't fly? Pegasus are basically chickens. -What about the wendigos? Does Heartswarming Eve just not exist anymore or has it been written out of cannon? -How does Equestria still exist? Wouldn't the different tribes have made their own countries by now considering the separation and the fact that Equestria was built on the foundation of uniting the three tribes together? (Basing this off the multiple times the U.S has tried to break off from itself) -What happened to the other non-pony species or are we basically re-doing season 9? -It was implied in the original show that magic and flight needed to be learned before it could be properly practiced so how in the world do all the pegasus just start immediately knowing how to fly and the unicorns immediately knowing how to use a levitation spell? -The magic mirror and other artifacts or seals like the stonified Chrysalis, Tryrek and coseyglow? (I bet the human world is like in some sci-fi era now) -Like what was said in the video, did nobody document Twilight or Celestia's teachings? How did friendship get lost to time? -If there's no magic, how in the world do these ponies find their special talents? Because if I remember correctly magic was Twilight's special talent Things I liked: -G3 inspiration for the different colored horn designs for the ponies -The voice acting was way better than I thought it was going to be -I love the animation and style -Izzy is best girl and her mane is absolutely gorgeous! -I thought I was going to hate Hitch and Izzy, but I was pleasantly surprised because they're my favorite -The world is also gorgeous an I can't wait for the Tv show to explore it more -The royals faking being able to fly and Pip's turn around from fame and saving face to an actually sincere person -The change in social class between the tribes (really refreshing) -I like to headcanon that the unicorns live in the everfree forest -The fact that the unicorns live in the forest period because I am a sucker for old fashioned unicorn lore -The golden alicorn wing anssamble -Sunny having cardboard attachments because that's adorable

I cant point it exactly cuz I didn’t see it myself only heard of it but there was an Easter egg that is kind of a hint to how the ponies went against eachother for context: there was an equestria girls special called forgotten friendship where a lonely girl in canterlot high uses a magical stone that can erase memories to make all the mane 6 forget sunset shimmer (cuz she’s jealous of her friends n stuff) and there was a picture of the same stone in one of zipp/sunny’s dad science boards so there is a chance someone used that stone (accidentally or not accidentally) to make the ponies forget about eachother and they all started fearing eachother

The messages of the movie were great. "Disobey the law if it's in the service of the greater good", "if a government can be brought down by the truth then it should be", "borders are arbitrary and should be removed as soon as possible", and "allowing corporations to control your government will lead to fascism". All solid lessons, I think!

I'm relieved the Pegasus and their smartphones didn't sink to shallow cringe level illumination writing/ world-building (trollz, Emoji Movie)

Spoilers If you watched the post credit scene then you would notice that the Earth Pony's footprints appeared to be magical. I think it's a reference to how earth ponies possess their own unique magic which has something to do with their strength.

the feeling I got from watching this movie was "If I was 8 years old when this came out I would be obssessed with it and I'd want more content as soon as possible" so I think the movie did what it was intending to

It was so cute! But I'm honestly unclear what future conflicts may need to be solved in the show. Also, is Sunny's transformation permanent like Twilight or just a metaphorical power boost like Sunset in Friendship Games?

I literally teared up watching it when Sunny's dad said "my little pony" ahsajksa this generation ALREADY has a hold on me. And I didn't even see g4, so... I'm excited!!

The mlp G5 movie was awesome, i mean sure it had it's ups and downs like all movies do but it was still a fun movie to watch and it makes me look forward to the upcoming G5 tv series and seeing where it'll go, and i agree Negative Legends that the movie gave G5 a good start!

I feel like people sometimes forget _just_ how many things in g4 depended on magic, aside from the entire weather system, the nature system, and the animal ecosystem. 1. *_The wendigoes are/were beings made by the_** magic **_of ponies against one another, that’s why they don’t appear in g5._* 2. It takes magic to become an alicorn, so without that, no new alicorns are made, and possibly all of them are killed off either due to that magic being needed for immortality, or because the ponies believed they needed new rulers from their own races 3. Pegasi’s wings are far too small for their bodies, there’s a reason they needed magic to fly and stand on clouds 4. Without alicorns, it’s way too easy to seperate all the tribes. You saw how easy it was in that season 9 finale. But twilight and the young six fixed it. But without alicorns(basically a combination of all the tribes), they will easy turn on each other, especially if someone decided to assassinate Twilight. They could easily blame it on a tribe, then those tribes go to war, and then separation ensues. And then the crystals get taken with the new rulers of each tribe and so magic disappears, either slowly or at once, everyone loses magic and voila. Or, more likely, memory stone shenanigans ensued. (there was a memory stone poster in Izzy’s house.) And every tribe took their Crystal and dipped 5.The reason the history that Twilight wrote/made isn’t there? It’s way too easy to erase history from books, or change it entirely. Check out an American history book and you’ll probably find a lot of false history 6. -Hitch is totally gay. Zipp is lesbian, and Izzy is my favorite.- 7. There’s gonna be a show later on, it’ll tie up loose ends. Hopefully- 8.Idk what’s happening with cutie marks but okay ig.

When sunny put the unicorn and pegasi crystals together, I FREAKING YELLED "THEY NEED THE EARTH PONY CRYSTAL!!!" before the movie even thought about it!😆😎😎😎😆

I think it’s important to remember that this is a start to a franchise, it’s essentially an extended pilot, it’s not answering every question so that it can keep you watching into the announced TV show and special.

The reason for Gen 5 is partially as you say, to revitalize for another audience. Another reason, more specifically, the voice actresses, namely Ashley Ball, Tara Strong, and Tabitha St Germain wanted to move on. They all have new projects, and simply it would be difficult to continue. They were all invited to go for a 10th season well before 9 was rolled out, but they all decided 9 seasons was enough.

My theory is that the mane six died and Equestria was left without a leader!!! The three tribes fought over who get to rule the kingdom which lead to a war that separated the three tribes!!!! Thousands of years later, the three tribes remained separated from each other , friendships from the past are now gone and the stories of the main six were thought to be legends!!!! At least that what I think is what happened!! Still there's so much we don't know about the lore of this "new generation"!! Why did magic disappear? What really happened to the mane six?Where's the crystal empire? Exactly how long has it been? What happened to discord after Fluttershy died?? So many questions!!! I hope they continue this story with a new series !!!! But hey that's just a theory! A film theory!

For a" child" movie or a movie Target children I kinda like the idea of death of a parent as a thing that acceptable . Unless it was pokemon or your mom you didn't see too many cartoon that outright were like " hey your parents could die while you're young and that's ok , you still be able to grow up strong and wonderful for them " what making it incredible depressing and incredibly like beating you over the head with it or making a very special episode that also felt less like helping the child get over it and more like just wanting to beat you over the head with also brainwashing fear mongering are such fun topics to treat in a kid movie because it actually fun introducing subject to challenge kids and not just thinking they're stupid ....yo i think I like this writer

When u asked how they convinced a whole city they couldn’t use a body part, their wings, you forgot that magic is gone. And the Pegasi use magic to fly. When Tierick started stealing magic, when he stole the Pegasi’s magic, they couldn’t fly anymore. So, really they just lied that the royal family could STILL fly, not convince them all that they themselves couldn’t fly.

I think the pegasi have a Constitutional Monarchy. If that is the case, then the Constitution would be holding the Royals to a higher standard than the average citizen, making less be enough to arrest them.

1) they put out ads for cgi artists for the mlp series 2) they specifically designed the movie so that adult fans would like it too, even hiring brony artists for designs 3) rebooting the generation is normal. Honestly, g4 went on too long. Collectors and children were sick of only having the same six ponies to choose from over and over again. You only need so many copies of pretty much the same toy 😆

My biggest surprise was "the hoof magic". Really, how do they do that? If G4 was 2D and all cartoon-ish and it didn't look like something too weird, hooves look like magic in 3D.

I felt it was a good start, I do hope they do explain in the show what happened for the 3 species of ponies to hate each other. The voice acting was good, their face design could be a little bit better in my opinion. But I'm glad they kept it simple than trying to overwork the previous generation. That is what Lauren did when Hasbro asked her to reboot the franchise, she kept it simple.

I am pretty sure Hasbro doesn't want to distance themselves from the fandom they just know if you don't refresh the franchise it WILL become crap...

Actually when you watch the after-half-credits scene, you will notice that only the earth pony filly left magical hoove prints, implying that earth ponies have magic of somekind too.

They did kind of explain it, in the scene where they were playing at the very beginning they mention that the mane 6 being friends isn't what they learned in class, and they mentioned there was a war.

If you have seen the ending credit scenes, where the little fillies, each of them who are different species to each other, run off to the hills. The magic of the Earth ponies, have been revealed by the little earth filly's hoovesteps. You might have missed that part too tho.

The reason for the change of generation is simple: every ten or so years (some times less on the half generations), Hasbro reboots the brand. FiM/G4 had simply reached the end of its life-cycle. I for one am very excited to see where they go with this; it feels like a nice marriage of FiM and the aesthetics and vibes of previous generations. (Gives me real G3-but-with-a-plot-and-history feels but that might just be my nostalgia talking)

I really hope they explain the plot holes lol- well apparently this movie is good according to people who’ve watched it so I think I’ll give gen 5 a shot... it won’t hold the same nostalgia for me that gen 4 did, but it could still be a good show!

Earth ponies have magic; Tirek would confirm that. Though I think their magic lies in physical strength or earthly knowledge. For example, look at the 2 earth ponies in the Pillars. Oo, add on theory! So Hitch has animals fans 24/7. He seems to communicate with them too. What if once magic is restored, he can talk to animals fluently much like Fluttershy could?

Ive watched the movie and it was really good ! Full with MLP references it was nice trying to spot them

I am interested to see how the show turns out especially with the male characters. If FIM had any flaws it would definitely be the poor writing of the male characters. But with the movie I was pleasantly surprised by Hitch. My main worry is that Hitch might devolve into the new Spike.

We are off to a fantastic start! This movie made we want to cry, it made me so happy. It made me remember why I feel in love with MLP in the first place! This was a damn good movie!

I'm really excited to see if and how they explore what was set up during the movie in the series. Also I am NOT going to forget the fact that Izzy said Sunny's aura was lavender. Not to mention she calls aura a "sparkle". Also James Marsden playing a guy that's an animal magnet is hilariously fitting given his role in the Sonic movie

Y'know the more unexplained shit the better honestly. I'm glad they kept it safe and not like just shoehorn in g4 lore. They can properly explain it in the tb show with more freedom and not having to write themselves into a box because of a throw away line in the movie about discord or the wendigos or the alicorns or something.

I think the end credits scene set up a power that the earth ponies don't know yet that they have, as evidence by the rainbow glowing heart shaped hoof prints. My theory is that it's super strength, and a connection to nature and that would explain applejack's unnatural strength. Also I have a theory that the three fillies they showed at the end will be very important to the upcoming series.. Maybe like the new cutie mark crusaders.

I’m so proud of them for releasing MORE good MLP. I grew up with the OG generations thanks to my mum, still have one of the DVD’s somewhere. I’ve loved all of it, even the new movie ! But I honestly hope when more movies and a possible series is released, the lore in between generations I hope is gonna expand on what happened to seperate everyone and etc. I also love the animation style so much.

12:40 i was thinking about this a lot before the movie came out (literally like half an hour before) and i actually came up with a decent answer short: it's really easy to make ponies be racist and there's no princess to make them nice again long: basically the three kinds of ponies were already mostly seperated. ponyville has a lot of earth pony traditions which are hard for a lot of other ponies to do since earth pony magic is their strength, canterlot has a lot of things that really only work with a horn so it's mostly unicorns there (not to mention there's a lot of magic significance there, like celestias school), and cloudsdale is literally all pegasi because nobody else can live there without a constant spell and in the season 9 finale, it was really easy for the villains to get ponies to think racist again. but that was fixed by twilight, and in the past it was fixed by celestia and luna. without any alicorn princesses to fix it (because like they're all 3 types combined into one so they're naturally the ones who would unite the 3 types) it's actually surprisingly easy to get them seperated for a long time.

It would be great to have a animated Little Pony: A New Generation to were the story continued from the movie with Sunny as a Alicorn.

Sunny's dad definitely is going to be an important character in the future and I can't wait to find out what is that about him. Also, I feel like Sprout will become like this recurring antagonist that nobody will ever treat seriously after a while. A bit like Draco Malfoy was portrayed in A Very Potter Musical. I can't wait for the universe of gen 5 to be expanded on, and this movie surpassed all my expectations. Which were rather low, I admit. EDIT: Oh, and earth pony magic. FINALLY. I want to see it.

One of the items in the background where Sunny's dad is shown shows the memory stone from the Equestria girls special Forgotten Friendship. It definitely is possible for someone to have used it to make ponies forget enough of the lessons of friendship to begin to distrust each other.

The movie really surprised me with how good it was. I felt really nostalgic throughout it. The characters and humour reminded me of the old show in all my favourite ways, way back from when I really got into it. Also I was super surprised that they just killed off Sunny's Dad, I figured he'd get the Apple Family treatment and just never be mentioned at all but he was. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the series became my comfort show after my classes, it was quite pleasant to watch.

I hope we get to find out what happened to separate them in the series. I also like how they kept the concept of flying being a form of magic, as hinted in season 4.

The movie had good scenes of comedy, but I'm sad to see that Hasbro execs removed all the creative stuff to make the characters and environment as generic as possible (Recently some early concept art got released, Sunny was a curious mechanic who got her paws greasy, and the Lighthouse had all sorts of contraptions like claws and windmills).

I loved it so much! I din't think you can quite recapture that charm G4 had, because no one was really *expecting* it. --but I think they did a great job and I am HYPED for the show!

It appears you didn't look to the post/mid-credit scene. You really should, because it helps clear up whether or not Earth Ponies do have magic.

According to Sawtooth, the end of the movie (with the shiny hoofprints) suggests earth ponies have a magic that is different from what was in gen 4. Personally I'm glad they used the movie to state the base that "who cares about the knick-knacks???", because in gen 4 they were too focused on the items of the elements of harmony even if in episode 2 they were already saying that the elements are more in the ponies than in the silly jewels. Yet it would have been better if there hadn't been any special crystals in the first place imo but you know, marketing, buy our toys... and I've been very confused from the very start because why would ponies be so racists with each other and why hadn't they been attacked by windigos? It makes maybe a little more sense afterwards because it could be because magic was locked... but then, did whoever did that make nature work on its own (day/night, seasons,...)? Now magic is back do they have to raise the sun and moon again, or is the world permanently autonomous? Where are the non pony creatures? Do cutie marks work differently than before, they look different...

This was a mess. But as a g4 fan I got chills during the scene in the old part of the pegasus city, especially when seeing the wonderbolts poster.

I hope they show off how the earth ponies have magic, like there super strong or really fast or something. That mid-credit scene really has me thinking.

I think the big problem with G4 was that it was becoming a narrative mess that really did need a reset button. Waaaay too many characters, increasingly not enough time in a season to accommodate all of them. It fell into the quicksand-like adventure fanfiction trope of becoming way too large in scope and having too many characters to individually focus upon within the space of one narrative arc (i.e. season)

I’m excited to see that they’re still doing a new generation every decade. I’ve been a fan of the series since I got the original gen 1 movies on DVD as a kid and I always loved seeing how they updated the brand each gen. I know it’s all a ploy to sell toys but it is a comfort show for me and I like seeing it get a new coat of paint every now and then.

You should absolutely check out the American Girl Doll books and movies. They were my entire childhood and apparently still hold up really well today.

I’m surprised the Windigoes were not even in the movie, considering they were feeding upon the fear and hate that pony kind had for each other. Theory: Whatever separated the ponies again, is more powerful than the Windigoes!

I really hope they clue us in on what happen to make all the ponys race scared of each other in the TV series.

Sunny’s dad said goodnight my little pony, and I said my little dashie to my screen and had flashback I loved that video, and Izzy is just adorable I love her she is my favorite character and every pony I love them too, I also loved the emo unicorns

I loved this so much and just like the G4 movie, I watched it with my fellow Pegasister friend DragonLily and we had an absolute blast! The music, the casting, the story-all of it is fantastic and we love it so much!!! I do hope they keep the movie cast for the tv show because not gonna lie, Pipp’s VA Sophia Carson is one of my absolute favorite actresses of modern media!
