I tried to start a monster Hunter club in Seattle during portable 3rd times. Our most successful meetup was during PAX. Yuri from Capcom actually came and played with us! He wasn't allowed to play portable 3rd though haha. We played Unite instead. He was very skilled at the hammer. I remember this one kid, who was probably 14, came up to us and there was about 6 of us all playing 3rd on beanbags. He was very awkward and nerdy. He asked me "is this the Seattle monster Hunter society?" And I said "yah! Do you live in Seattle?" And he kind of bashfully said "no, I live in Idaho" and then began to walk away. I was like "wait, do you have your psp on you?" And he turned around and was like "yeah . . . Is it okay if I play with you guys?" I laughed and told him it absolutely was. He grinned ear to ear and sat down on a bean bag. He was a hunting horn user and super funny. It felt so awesome to engage strangers about this weird game we were all playing in Japanese. It felt so secret and awesome. I'm so happy seeing the success of this title and the evolution to the next gen. I hope that kid still uses hunting horn 🖤

My hunting carrier began in the waters of Moga. Diving below the surface, getting livers of the Epioths... ...and witnessing how an azure scaled thunder tore through the dark depths and killing my prey in seconds. I once saw Tri on the shelves and what hooked me to it was the image of the Lagiacrus roaring down at the hunter. If it hadn't been for Lagiacrus, I would have probably never joined this awesome community. I sank countless hours into this game's online mode, but was unable to witness Loc Lac's dying breaths. The hub always had a soft spot in my heart. Can't believe so much time has passed already. It still feels like yesterday when I picked it up. It really is incredible how far the franchise has come over the years.
@natbvm1880
@natbvm1880 4 года назад
That was my first game as well. However I was terrified of playing online for a very long time, afraid I would suck lol. Which I did, until finally after almost a year I started online and started LEARNING SO MUCH from watching people and learning all the little tricks. Trap, flashbomb, trap, flashbomb. Sleep-bombing. I had no idea. Tactics are so cultural in this game, it's amazing. God I know I'm in the minority but I miss underwater. It was so awesome.
@TheRegulus01
@TheRegulus01 4 года назад
@@natbvm1880 I liked the underwater combat as well. I like foward to it returning with improvements and the Leviathan class's return. That fear of playing online is pretty much natural. It is human to go into a new environment with mixed feelings and be scared of messing up. Be it in games, be it in real life with school, work, moving. But the most you learn is from watching and hunting with others. This community is very welcome and helpful. If you are new, you are no scorned at, but there will always be people who will show you the ropes. Yes, there are elitists, but they are in every community and in most cases, are drowned in supportive voices of the masses. That is what I always like about the community. Because these new ones can be staple partners before you know it ;)

Started with the original Monster Hunter back on PS2. Oh, the memories... ... When you attacked with the right stick, moved camera with the D-pad, and one of the buttons that would later be used for attacks was "open tutorial menu for the like three quests that had tutorials". When gathering spots would still let you try to gather when there was nothing left. When hammer didn't stun and greatsword didn't charge. When subspecies weren't even a concept, and the big final boss of single player was the Monoblos. When there was no canteen or Felyne Helpers. When "verticality" just meant Zone 6 in the Forest & Hills. When the fighting Plesioth required you to bring a rare gatherable item from a DIFFERENT MAP just to START the fight. When you had to buy the little blurb and logo for every monster from the shop. When you had to bring five combo books in your twenty-slot inventory to make sure you would actually craft a potion instead of garbage. When I would go to school in the morning and tell my friend about how I couldn't get past Rathalos STILL because I would run out of time because he WOULD SPEND HALF OF THE QUEST IN THE SKY, JUST CIRCLING THE AREA, ... Good times.

While I owned MH Freedom, my true introduction to the series was Freedom 2. So many memories, the game starting out with Tigrex hospitalizing you, his subsequent invasions of your village quests, that exciting discovery of the game’s diverse roster of monsters (and having none of them spoiled by obnoxious thumbnails), our ominous introduction to the elder dragons, all my walls, Khezu, Shogun Ceanataur, Gravios, EACH of the true elder dragons, and, most important to me, Tigrex. Then I upgraded to Freedom Unite and with it came Nargacuga, forgotten favourites if mine Hypnocatrice and Yamatsukami, the HELL that was farming FIVE heavenlies for Gold Rathian’s armour, then after months, my triumph over Ukanlos.

Played since 3 Ultimate. My friend also played 3 Ultimate but never got past low rank. I played every game and got to g rank at least in all of them. Oddly one if my favorite hunting experiences is seeing my friend find his calling as a hunter in world. While playing monster hunter world he was fighting odogaron and he finally started to fight with desire to win. The music the tension the desire to fight it reminded of when I truly felt a desire to hunt. God now I remember my call of the hunter. Mh3u on the Wii u. A young teen me was playing on a summer night. I was playing online and still learning strategies and was helped out along the way by others teaching me. My first rathalos hunt. We had got it about 3/4 of the way, but then I disconnected from the other. I didn't want to give up. I fought and fought. I ran out of healing items, but still kept fighting to get my rewards. At one point I was running to the bed everytime I was below half health. I was worrying I would time out or faint. Then at my fifth go I did it slayed my first rathalos... My first true hunting struggling and desire to complete the mission. Always have the G rank rathalos armor as a trophy.

My call of a hunter was kehzu. Yes, khezu. I was young (maybe 11) and mhf was my first "real" game I ever played, ignoring racing games here. Khezu urgent quest. I was trying over and over, I hadn't understood the mechanics of mh at this point. Light bow gun, the basic one without any improvements. I guess I already fainted one or two times. I was fiering my shots, which were starting to run out, I mostly relied on normal S 1 . Time was running out, the khezu left the icy cave, I ran behind him to the first "ice cold" area. I fiered paralyzing ammo to paralyze him from distance. He hitted the ground lifeless, I've slayed my first big monster. I was so exited I runned and told my dad😅 Still one of my core memories of my monster hunter live

I started with MH3U on the 3DS. By the time I got a feel for that game (I was just getting to fighting Crimson Qurupeco) MH4U was released. To this day, even after putting 1000 of hours into MHG, MHGU, MHW, and MHWI my favorite will always be MH4U. The story, environments, gameplay, and community within MH4U was just a phenomenal experience. The weapons felt amazing, armor had great stats and skills, and the progression of monsters felt challenging. Out of all the Monster Hunter games, the story in MH4U truly made me feel like a caravan hunter that saved so many people through the climax of Shagaru Magala and Gogmazios (with Gogmazios and Dalamadur being my favorite monsters/fights). Whenever my friends tell me they don't find Monster Hunter games appealing I recommend playing MH4U, because it truly made me feel like a growing hunter.

I’m fairly new to the MH franchise. When I was in job corps, I didn’t really talk to anybody. I just sat in my room and played my 3ds. A couple guys noticed this, and asked if I had MH. I said I’d never heard of it, so the next time we got to the store, i walked over to a GameStop, and I traded bravely default and rune factory for MH4U. They were all g crown already, so I couldn’t hunt with them, but they walked me through how to play, and even helped me through low rank + high rank hub quests. After I graduated, I kept playing, but my little hunting group never kept in touch. I bought every release since, using the same name I had in 4 in hopes I would run into them in a hub. I haven’t yet, but Ill keep playing, and holding out hope that I will someday. So, thank you, Jason and Ian. If you somehow see this, I miss y’all, and I’m itching to hunt with y’all again.

And through it all, one thing remained consistent throughout the entire evolution of the franchise: Rathalos. They could not have made a better choice choosing him as the poster boy for the franchise. Edit: So apparently, everyone reading my comment has misinterpreted what I meant. Everyone reading my comment has thought I was talking about the DESIGN of Rathalos, when that was NOT what I was originally talking about. I was talking about his POPULARITY. He and Rathian have appeared in EVERY game, and neither of them have ever NOT given players an epic fight. And when Monster Hunter decides to do a crossover with another franchise, which Monster do they pick to represent them? You guessed it, RATHALOS!

The really first MH game i played is MH 2dos, back then when i don't even know that my ps2 was jaibreak-ed and i buy the game from some store clerk in the side of the road, which is pirated disc, and only for half to quarter dollar. It's very very cheap. I don't know what this game is so i played it and the game stuck on hub area, and i just recently found out that mh2dos is japan only game and don't have any localization. I can't play anything, can't do any quest, just running around and talking to all the npc. Fast forward to middle school, i forgot why but i don't have my ps2 anymore. But i got this friend, i always sleep over in his house, and we played this game, just called "monster hunter" since he had ps2 back then. I don't even remember that this game and the game i played back then is the same franchise, but what i remember is, the first time i saw forest and hill, my jaw drop and I'm speechless for how gorgeous the game is. The aptonoth in the distance, the "velociraptor-like" velociprey, and the gathering area, which unlike the recent game, back then they don't have any button prompt so you have to guess where to find any herb/mining/mushroom/fishing point is. I don't know why, but the feeling of exploring and searching for the monster, while trying to find its pattern before eventually find it and throw the paintball is so satisfying. I remember once, me and my friend tried to find rathalos in forest and hill, for almost half an hour we can't find it because we don't know what psychoserum is, so we just running around trying to find it. I don't know is it a curse or something but it seems we always half a minute too late when we got to the area its in, the rathalos already gone to other area. But it was fun. It gave you the sense of "hunting" in the truest sense. You just hope your luck gave you the opportunity to find the monster. After that, i got into the game really fast, and i played freedom unite, 3rd portable and that's it. Due to family financial condition, I can't afford to buy any console, and the franchise just disappeared from my life. Although once in a while i played 3rdp on emulator just to feed my craving for some hunting action. But when MHW wad announced, i really can't believe it. Not only the franchise is back to the home console, but also come to PC. Maeby I'm too biased to this franchise, but i can say that is one of the happiest moment in my life. I'm sorry for the long comment and sorry for the broken english since is not my first language, and i think nobody will read this but to all of you from MH community and also to the dev, thank you, for making this franchise, bigger than life experience that i won't forget, and keep making awesome contents, the game for the dev, and video like this for content creators, or just sharing the experience with friends for us who just love this game. Once again, thank you to all of you, and happy hunting!

Hey! I started monster Hunter back in school during the MH Freedom days. By best friend back then and I loved playing various couch coop games on the PS2 and the Gamecube. I sadly don't remember how we discovered the game but I remember that he specifically wanted a PSP just for Monster Hunter for his 14th birthday and got one just as Freedom 2 was around the corner. From that day on, we were hooked. MH Freedom 2 was the beginning of something special. We got our feet wet and played for countless of hours. The accomplishment of grinding together, helping each other out to farm our weapons and armor sets enhanced our friendship. I remember killing Shogun Ceanataur around 30 times with him so that he could finally craft his weapon and we both felt great afterwards. I still remember all the gear we used. He was mainly running around in Blangonga armor and the dual blades above. I had the Tigrex set and a thunder Longsword which's name I forgot as my main gear. When MH Freedom Unite dropped we were in the store the same day, bought the game, and it was even better! More adventures in Pokke village! A new cat Quest-giver in the town and a new Quest-giver in the Guild Hall! God damn those hunts were hard! During that time we finally understood more how the armor system worked and that we can mix pieces to get different skills thanks to some forum posts I found online. (Information about MH games was hard to come by if you didn't speak japanese during that time and we live in a very rural and somewhat remote area; we never met anyone else that even knew about the games). And countless hours later we finally did it. We had defeated White Fatalis. I think we literally cheered out loud as the beast fell. We felt unstoppable - two friends that could take on the world. I truly miss those times. We were best friends since kindergarden up until we were around 17-18 years old. But for some reason we fell out of contact. Lukas - if you ever read this - the times were great and I miss them.

Ahhh the memories.... one day suddendly I started to wonder: why aren't there games (RPG, Adventure, etc) in which equiping new armors or clothes alteres the appeareance of the character using them? Another day I wondered: Is there a game where I can fight dragons or huge monsters? These two questions put me to search through the internet and my prayers where answered with Monster hunter Freedom Unite for PSP. I got so hooked to this game but as a rookie hunter, my ass was handed down to me so many times that I started to get frustrated... until I finally managed to capture a HUB velocidrome... yes, I was being chewed by a monster intended to be hunted by 4 players while still in my starting gear.... I really am glad that I did not stopped trying, the sensation of accomplishment was so powerful that I am not able to put down GenU to this day even after hundreds of hour playing. I may not be the best hunter out there, but man, this game is so fun be it solo or co-op. For me, Monster hunter is the best series of games ever along with Metroid. Happy hunting!!! \\( *w* )//

I'm from the US. My first game was MHF, way back when I was in 5th grade. I didn't even have a PSP, but some kid I ended up becoming friends with happened to play it. He showed me, and a few others the game one day at school, and told us we had to get get it. From that day foward, it was pretty much the only thing I cared about. I saved up every penny I could, to be able to buy a PSP, and that was it. We would all go over to eachother's houses, nearly every day, and do nothing but play MH. I played every game after MHF, that was released in the west, up to MH3 on the Wii. After that, I had mainly moved over to console & PC, so I never got a 3DS. For years, I always had so much love and nostalgia for the series, dreaming about a big release on consoles or PC, with better graphics. I found out about MHO a few years back, but it was kind of difficult to really get into, with it being excusively in Chinese. Finally, they announced MHW, the game I had been waiting for all this time. I played on PS4, before switching to the PC release when it finally came out, where I now have almost 1000 hours played. I didn't realise how much I missed these games, or how easily I'd get sucked back in. Fortunately I own a Switch this time around, and am more than hyped for Rise. And I have to say, I am not gonna miss the clutch claw.

So I just played singleplayer. Took me forever to get my Great Serpent Blade. I was ready to face the Rathalos, little did I know it would take me 26 times to actually beat it. Eventually I got to facing the Diablos and Gravios. Then the most intimidating quest, Troublesome Pair. Ended up being super easy. The game was amazing. I think one of my funniest memories associated with this is the fact that he put me up against OG Fatalis for like my first fight ever in MH. My parents noticed how much I liked the game and ended up buying me a PSP & Monster Hunter Portable for my birthday. Unfortunately, that student had moved out by the time I got it, so I was never able to play with him as my own hunter. Nevertheless, my Journey as a Monster Hunter began and god has it been an awesome journey. Played all the way to Monster Hunter Tri and then picked up Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate when I finally got a 3DS. Generations was a fantastic experience that let me visit the towns I missed out on and revisit the ones that gave me so many memories from my early gaming days. Monster Hunter Worlds was the first game I could play with a majority of my friends and the story was a super nice touch to the game. Iceborne of course was amazing as well and brought back creatures that I had only encountered in previous games. That music on beating Alatreon was a tear-jerker I swear. TLDR: Japanese exchange student lets me play monster hunter on his PSP. Parents buy me a PSP and Monster Hunter. Become addicted to Monster Hunter for the rest of my life.

I remember briefly playing Monster Hunter 1 at a friends house and thought it was interesting but I really didn’t get into the series until MH Stories on 3ds and dabbled a bit in MHW but truly fell in love with the series in Rise/Sunbreak. Since then this series has become so special to me. Especially after working long days and coming home and just battling monsters, it feels so satisfying.

My first game was 4U which I started playing in middle school. Since then, I've played all the other mainline games that released in the west

My first monster hunter game was 4 Ultimate. I remember actually getting it as part of a 4 pack of games for Christmas, but it quickly ended up being my favorite 3DS game of all time. It was so thrilling to play, each new monster was like this insurmountable wall and each one felt incredible when I beat them. That was the only game in the series I actually had a lot of friends to play it with (I couldn't get into world cause of it being on a home console and GU was harder to find people still playing), but I can't wait to experience that again with a new monster hunter on switch.

I started playing Monster hunter Freedom unite...it was really hard that I stopped playing it because I could not defeat Khezu.. I then realize it had to do with my gear and armor... I grind my way in until finally, I defeated it.. It was so satisfying that up to this day I still consider Monster Hunter to be one of the best game ever made. Huge thanks to the CAPCOM and the Dev team

I started with MH3U on 3DS, and haven't been disappointed by any main series release from the MonHun team. I can't say that about many franchises, and appreciate this look into the evolution of the series. 😊

I was 1st introduced to Monster Hunter back on PS2 & PSP, but my 1st "full entry" into the series was MH Tri for Wii, & is the 1st Monster Hunter I completed the Village Quests in, & most of the Guild Quests. Monster Hunter Tri & 3U are personal favorites as far as things in general go; the story, village, NPCs, etc make you feel like family, in a sense. MH Tri is also where I learned to hone my skills in Monster Hunter.

My first MH was the very first one on PS1, but I was too young back when I first played it too really appreciate it. It wasn't until me and a bunch of my friends got Tri on the Wii that I truly fell in love with the series

It's funny how this series has a way of luring people in. Most people that I know that play the game (myself included) always started out not liking it, and then coming back to it and liking it even more, and repeating this until it's their new favorite series. Prime example of what great developers and an even greater community can do for a game.

Thanks a lot for this Gaijin, and for everything you contributed to the community to this day, I teared up a little... All my hunting life flashed before me, starting late in the MH1 circa 2008? I stumbled across the game in a yard sale here in Brazil, going all the way Japan and buying a 3DSLL and MH4G during the launch weekend in some small store in Tokyo, whose owner was a MonHan fan kind enough to give me a small discount because I was clutching a plush Palico I got from an UFO catcher earlier that week, and round back to Brazil and my fond memories of B52 air raid sirens waking me up at night amidst cold sweat PTSD-induced nightmares :')

This is one franchise that has rewarded being a fan of since I first got into it with freedom 2. Every game gets bigger and better, but the team knows that the important aspects are the weapons and the monsters. They respect the history of the series but aren't afraid to try new things.

I'm in the same situation as you, I played the 3U demo ages ago, then saw stories bought it, remembered the demo and the fun I had playing it (I didn't have the money to buy it at the time) and went for the newest game, MHW, loved it, now I got to GenU's G-rank, 4U's high-rank and playing to get to 3U's high, I think I spent too much money on MH in too little time, but it was worth it

@@lucaspeixoto975 I just was checking demos then stumbled into the Stories demo first and loved it then tried to find more but all I could find is the Generations demo and I hated it. Then later that year I bought stories and it was fantastic and after I beat Stories I was thinking lets checkout the weird monster hunter game. Then learned the truth and ended up loving generations demo but I ended up buying 4U with the Internets help.

Started out in Monster Hunter Freedom and remembering how difficult it was, barely could kill anything beyond a Yian Kut-ku. But the game really took off for me when Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite, when my friends and I would gather to play so very often. Then my recent games were 4G and Generations on the 3DS and now of course, Monster Hunter World. What a journey, and still one of my favorite game series to date.

I've been playing since the first Monster Hunter. The Playstation Network Adapter had a trickle of games over the years, so I looked for online game announcements religiously. A game where you fight dragons by foraging, setting traps, poisoning meat, and smacking them with a comically large dinosaur-skull sword instantly appealed to me. I bought it on launch day and immediately became enamored with the series. I would even bring the Bradygames Strategy Guide with me to school to learn the hunts and builds. Even though the series has progressed and improved substantially, I still miss the old days of having to trial-and-error your way through fights, losing to Fatalis a whole bunch, and randomly being allowed to fight Kirin in a swamp filled with velociraptors.
