@@godofwar2k6rebornPat no longer has his arms and legs. The guy for me, and I mean this without sounding gushy and not using the overly used word ‘inspirational ‘ is someone who has not let something that we couldn’t ever imagine stop him from being one of the best retro gurus on RU-vid and a guy I’d be damn happy to share a beer with! I hope he knows how much the subscribers love his vids and his ‘ fro 🤣.
Oh man this is great. I remember the arcade in 92, it was amazing. SF2, Mortal Kombat, Art of Fighting - and never having a chance to play any of them because the machines were always full! What a time to be alive.
Absolutely. I loved the Neo Geo cabinet with his four different games. This is where I first discovered art of fighting in thee arcade game baseball stars which is still one of my favorites
Ill never forget the first time I saw it it was like looking at a unicorn no other game had ever looked so cool and other than nba jam final fight ninja turtles x men and the Simpsons gave me a great feeling unlike anything else I ever experienced
I'll never forget finding a copy of mk trilogy on the n64 walking home from school as a kid. It was beat up but the chip was ok. Me and my sister popped it in after dinner and loved it so much. We would play tournament mode and then watch the fatalities and brutalitys as rewards
I remember my family put their money together for Christmas to buy me a Sega Genesis mortal Kombat 3,Ultimate. they are my Greatest Family in the World. I miss the 90s so much and that's why I never took thoes years for Granted.
Dude I agree with u about 3. One of my gripes about it at the time was it released too close to 2. MK2 was still immensely popular when 3 was thrust upon us.
I remember I was in 7th grade when the OG came out and I was CALLED a liar when I said I saw "the blue dude rip the head off the chick." Was amazing to feel valid
Bro , just imagine how much of a liar I looked like when I saw a babality done and saw someone kill the baby 🤣🤣 I was telling people that and til this day people don't believe me lol
Love it, took me back to being a kid in the arcades and on the SNES & MegaDrive/Sega Genesis. Amazing times, I always wanted too play the plug and play versio but never got to. My main childhood games were 1 ,2 & 3. I loved the Sega Saturn version of ultimate MK3. I was also working in a local SEGA WORLD back then and was actually told to unlock Smoke which was not available by the dip switch settings, which means I had to put it in manually in the UK. arcade. that was because more characters, more players. Yet everything was heard was in the arcades, classrooms, and what you read in video games magazines. I did actually buy a Mortal Kombat 2 game guide, which was rare back in the UK in the 90s. I actually bought a Mortal Kombat 2 and later a MK3 machines. MK2 has taken a fair bit of maintenance. Ultimate MK3 plays amazing. I have maintained them well. I have replaced all buttons and sticks with Sanwa working very well This was way before 1-UP cabinets, so it was very expensive. To me still worth it having these original arcade versions it was great and always a conversation starter. Everyone knows it, some have never played it, but are relaxed enough to play it. Bringing people together!
Thank you. I try to explain my 13 and 15-year-old kids what it was like playing these fighting games in the arcades and what a camaraderie there was. Unless you were actually there it's kind of hard to explain.
I like how you review every port of the game. I'm slowly getting into game emulation so it's nice to know which ones I should bother with and which ones I shouldn't. When mentioning MK2 for the Sega Master System, you inadvertently mention twice that color was added back in, once at 48:42 and again at 48:52.
I have mk 1 and 2 arcade games. As I’ve gotten older these games just keep getting better and more fun. I didn’t realize their impact to the hobby in 1993
Hey there Pat. Now I know you are a busy guy reviewing games and painting those happy trees but I hope sometime you can give us your unique take on the Arcade game ESWAT and all of its console underlings. Big hugs from the UK 😄
Highly highly highly recommend Enter the Dragon for any old school MK fan who may have not seen it yet. It's probably Bruce Lee's best movie, and the first MK game, especially the movie, pretty much lifted all of its plot right from Enter the Dragon. Most would have already seen Bloodsport thanks to 1990s TBS and TNT.
I'm a huge SF2 fan from back in the day and have played very limited mortal Kombat even though I saw it in the arcade, been giving it a go on the SNES lately and still suck at it although I'm enjoying it. The only thing I don't like is that the stages change when you continue instead of each character having their own unique stage like SF2
In the Early 90's seemed like every neighborhood Sub or Pizza shop in my neighborhood (Rochester, NY) had Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat. Miss those days.
The MK series is just damn good, my favorite 2D game in the series however still has to be MK: Trilogy on the PlayStation, I love how on certain characters you could even play older versions of them. Plus of course it put back in Baraka’s spinning blade attack. And Richard Divizio and Daniel Pesina are two cool guys, I met them at our local convention got them to sign my Genesis copy of MK 1, and had pics taken with them, including me taking a nut cracker, and Kano “ripping out my heart.” Plus I got to spend time with them afterwards and eat some pizza and drink some beers with them along with playing them in the arcade version of MK2, since I was a VIP at the convention.
Learning about Patman's history just now, I have no excuse to not ever not finish a video edit again. Truly inspirational my man. Are you able to game still? I imagine so, esp with Xbox and that controller they make that people can customize? Keep keeping on man! THanks for all the content
Yes I can still game to an extent. Xbox 360 controller and used for all of my videos works great with most retro games. The only thing I struggle with are first-person shooters so Halo and Grand Theft Auto are a no go. Thanks for the nice words
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Thats awesome brother. Glad you can still throw down and found ways to make things work. Where there is a will, there is a way myt friend. Thanks again for the hours of entertainment and information. Merry Christmas
Today i played the old arcade again. The screen was definitely affected by time and usage, but it was fun nonetheless. I immediately went with my most trusted character kano and almost finished the game on my first attempt after almost 30 years or so. I've finished the arcade game many times and with multiple characters back in the day.
"Rumor has it that the stop motion puppet was based on my wife! This would explain why I started to turn to stone when I first met her!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Good one, Patman! But you should have ended the joke with instead - "This would explain why I became rock hard when she would jump on me!" Either way, you went from an insult to a compliment towards your poor yet lovely wife! God bless!!!
I'm just gonna say it, MK2 is the king when it came to fatalities, they're still gruesome and realistic, it's why it's my all time fav MK game in history! And side note, Kung lao morphs into a Cheetah, not a leopard 1:11:27
I thought Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 were decent games when they were new. However, I was definitely a Street Fighter player growing up. I absolutely despised Mortal Kombat 3. I didn't like the run feature or the combos. It always felt like they were trying to follow in Killer Instinct's path (I loved the first one). This was a very informative video! Thank you for making it. Fun Fact- Did you know Mortal Kombat almost became a TG-16 exclusive?! The developers wanted to do it but Nec/Hudson refused to fork out royalties on an untested game. What an absolute blunder that was. That could have been the killer app the TG-16 needed to really put it on the map. I would have got one just for MK.
The Genesis version was rushed which is part of the reason for the difference in sprite quality. Not sure about the missing audio samples but modders have updated it and releases the "Arcade Edition" as a rom. Others have since put the rom on a reproduction carts and you can but it online to play on your Genesis hardware. Much closer to the arcade for graphics and the sound samples are now there too. It's a great upgrade.
Aww pat you missed a great easter egg at palace gates in MK1 i can hear you saying " The creators even paid tribute to pac man by placing him and a ghost in the stone carvings on the right side of palace gates."
let's all be honest here, MK2 was clearly the best game of the trilogy. MK1 was trying to prove itself but the gameplay was lacking but it did have the raw brutality to get attention. mk3 tried to change it up with the run button but I feel like the gameplay was severely diluted. MK2 is hands down the best game
rw:i be honest with you PATMAN QC the first MK game i ever played was MK3 arcade machine at pizza hut next to a freeway to where it leads to the sanfernando mission in california.
By today’s standards, the game boy version of Mortal Kombat is pretty crazy. But I absolutely loved playing that game when they released it. And I actually enjoy the music it’s got that classic chiptune sound that I love.
I remember BARBARIAN!!!! I was in maybe third or fourth grade, possibly fifth... We had an Apple II e. Or maybe II ce. But I also distinctly remember the decapitation.
I bought the arcade1up Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3 from Walmart and I got to say if you want an arcade cabinet but don't want to spend three to five thousand dollars this is the way to go
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries and I'm being conservative on the price that's just a standard arcade machine people complain about the price let them try to buy an old gigantic afterburner console
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries You might already know this, but it was a Prince joke referencing Purple Rain. Also, Rain was meant to get people to continue pumping in quarters in the vain hope of finding him based on his misleading clues.
I liked MK1 for SNES. The deep freeze fatality was cool. Also, it is farcical to have "buckets of blood" come out during a match. More blood is dispersed during a match than a fatality. That was ridiculous in every installment of the game.
rw:Hey PATMANQC heads up at this little easter egg!, If you havent noticed if you pause the vid at just the right moment when Van Dam flying kicks his opponent @11:06 that pose looks very similar to the MORTAL KOMBAT 's Arcade machine's picture @1:27 ^_^ bet you didnt see that one coming.^_^
I created that in Gimp for the bezel. I originally made it for Paul Eicher's upcoming Mortal Kombat Plus, where Reptile will have a portrait appear in the center of the character select screen to be a secret playable character like robot Smoke was in MK3. But Paul went with another artist's Reptile portrait with a moon background. (I still like mine better).
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Yeah, I don't make bezels anymore, but I made a bunch back in the day. Feel free to use any ones you like. I always link them individually under my bezel videos or Mame videos. I also link to my pack. I just use my Google Drive so it's easy for people to download. I don't need any credit, I just make them for people to enjoy. Some of them suck, but some are top notch. Take a peek if you're ever bored and feel free to use any you like. Take care buddy, keep up the good work.
