The History Of Neopets 

I wish that neopets had evolved with the rest of the internet, it was cutting edge back in the early 2000s, now it is a testament to the old days

I wish I could work at Neopets so I can turn around this mess.

I swear if Neopets would just act like a real virtual pet site again and ask their user base to voulenteer to fix the site... They have people coding pet pages casually, people drawing art better than the site art, and translators galore... just pay them with neopoints, have them fill out an application to guarantee they're 18, it's 100% legal. The sad things about watching Neopets die, is that they aren't even trying to fix it, espeially since they used to bring in voulenteer beta testers.

Neopets was an absolutely enormous part of my childhood. The Neoboards were instrumental in shaping my online social skills, which allowed me to forge quite a few very close friendships with people on other sites. I got into art and writing because I would use the pet pages to post elaborate backstories and illustrations of my pets. It sounds corny but I owe a huge chunk of who I am as a person to Neopets. Seeing it die a slow death like this really breaks my heart.

Video made me kind of sad to see the downfall of one of my favorite sites over the past few years, but what can we do

JumpStart is sitting on a gem. They _could_ make Neopets something great again, the audience is still around. Or, they _could have_ had they had the slightest idea of what they were doing. It just doesn't seem that they care. They just want to sponge off of the NC Mall and let the money flow in. I mean, sure, Viacom did do a lot of monetization crap too, but at least they just sorta let TNT do their own thing instead of, you know, gutting them.

Man, I remember back in the day when there were websites and stuff cataloguing the *early* days and the early designs for neopets, items, games, etc. And I thought the game already went through a lot *back then* ! But wow, it really has changed a lot more in 21 years...!

Been an active user since 2006, Had my account frozen twice because the staff are crazy but got it back again after 3 years of being frozen. know i have 40+ million neopoints and I still have my first ever painted pet.

It's a real shame that Neopets has gone downhill the way that it did, becuase I still love Neopets a lot. I hope that someday this mess gets sorted out someday, but I guess that's unlikely. :(

If you did a full length history video it would make my day!! I played so much as a kid but was largely unaware of major aspects of the site for whatever reason.

I remember when I joined around 2004-2005 and seeing the old site an neopia reminded me how nice it was back then. It also helped me during middle school as everyone I knew just got new friends and left me; so I stayed indoors and played this. It helped me through one of the darkest moments of my life. (there was a lot more worse stuff at that school but I won't ramble.) The first memory I can remember was chosing a shoyru because I thought it was a dragon not a dinosaur and looked around the site for stuff to do. After a few months they annouced this new Goat pet called Ixi and that day I learnt of rare pets; so I wanted a Jetsam.... I didn't get one until many years later :D

It's so nice to see someone on youtube who still enjoys neopets like I do! I thought I was the only one! :D

I played Neopets until first year university, and then I just stopped. Today, I suddenly had an impulse to see what was going on in the Neopets world and came across your history/lore video, and it's nice to see someone out there that's still passionate about virtual pet sites later in life.

RIP golden days of neopets - Tamagachi and the digital pet are dead. The things that would've made it neat or fun or endearing are gone and replaced with cashgrab bullshit unfortunately. I would love to be able to actually play with and interact with a pet.. instead of just Buy them things. With my credit card. Alas. Any actual "pet" aspects went increasingly by the wayside for confusing novelties.

Can't believe they haven't transformed Neopets into a MMORPG yet. It has everything: variety of characters, plots, different lands, a pay-to-win (or may I say, look prettier?) system and (probably) thousands of old players who would come back. Otherwise, this thing will die very soon. It already looks so outdated and plain dull.

This a brilliant video. Thank you! Neopets was the best! On me and my sisters account our ulsa was zapped by the baby paintbrush guy, probably the best thing to ever happen to me. There was so much mystery in this game! That was too much fun.

I was never into neopets since I had joined around the time the tournaments were happening and there were a ton of add on TV about it. I was blown away by how much everything cost though so I didn't play it much, but I didn't know there was an active story going on!

I honestly just want another plot to do. And I would hope that it stays permanent, like the Altador plot. I am so sad that I don't get to do the other plots that I was just a bit to late to sign up for. Also it'd be nice if Lenny Conundrum gets fixed.

You know, I haven't seriously played the web game of Neopets since high school. But I think my Shoryu would still suck in the Coliseum, even with the revamp.

I used to spend so much time on this site in the early 2000s, and back then I had dial-up connection, DIAL-UP! Very informative video, and I know it's almost 4 years old, but could you up the volume a bit? I tend to listen to documentaries while playing, so I had to turn up my system's volume all the way up just to hear you while the game blasted off in my ear.

I used to log on everyday to spin the wheel!! XD

I heard TNT worked with Nexon to add the Cash Shop feature in Neopets.

Well this helped me remember when I started playing neopets, it was sometime around the McDonalds toys so I was either 5 or 6. I'm 18 now and I'm surprised with how much neopets has changed, for better or worse. I think even if neopets goes down the shitter, I might stick with it until the site closes down because I can't seem to find the same joy with other pet games like I can neopets, even if they are pretty cool.

Wow it was trending at its finest even they sold neopets figures in McDonald's !!! and the site got 1trillion views!!! DAMN!!!!!

Part of me wishes that the staff of Neopets are saving up money to fix the site and make it really good again, but I know it's most likely not true.

i loved the story behind neopets! I read all the interactive comics and enjoyed every minute of it. its sad to see it become the cash grab/pay to win it is now

Holy shit. I never knew there were so many things behind neopets! I always thought of it as a click this click that type of deal but it seems it has a backstory with some villain like wtf!? I just played the games on the website but a freaking evil villain? That's crazy.

With the level of exposure that Pokemon GO received, a small part of me can't help but wish that Neopets would modernize into a tablet/mobile based game, with updated games, a supported player-run economy, and augmented reality (e.g. big events have real world raid spots, local coffee bean gives out free codestones, etc). I still log on occasionally for a nostalgia hit, so if anyone does the same, feel free to add spiderboy9115 (oh god the name) on there

I stopped playing Neopets because most of friends back in high school play Facebook and other's like Gaia Online and Adventure Quest.

You left out quite a few plots like Tale of Woe, Faerie's Ruin, but meh. The neopets plushies made a return to happy meals in 2006 I believe too (or maybe it was Burger King that time.) Then there was also the end of Boochi, well you can still get the RE's but I don't think he can turn pets into babies anymore. I *think* you got pretty much everything else though. :)

With apps taking the market by storm I can see why neopets is losing users. Now if they would update to a neopets app it could save the franchise.

i honestly ? have hated jumpstart since they decided taking down petpetpark was a good idea which lead me to get into neopets a month after ppp ended and from what i see ; jumpstart caused neopets to fail aswell. what a shame.
