My family and I went to the Army Rec center in the mid 1950s. I too learned how to swim there. This was the era of the time when one of the life guards had a missing arm or leg, I forget which. I also went to 1st, 2nd grade in Waianae in one for the 3 garage school rooms that is no longer are there. Lots of great memories of my years living in Waianae.....
I’m sorry guy had a missing leg. I’ve never seen a shark Army Rest Camp. My son in law was at Army Rest Camp n a shark came in the shallow part n he was all excited. He’s from Vegas. There was a storm warning likely why sharks came in near shoreline.
i lived in waianae from 1960 but it,s funny how no one talks about the C&C used to dump raw cesspool waste on the break wall into the ocean and turds use to float in the bay where they swim!!!
I ve seen and swim with dolphins . Behind the break wall . They managed a group hunt. Jumping out and diving vertically on the same spot one after enother . Tried to dive in too, but couldn’t see nothing , the water was white ,like boiling , because of there activities. Probably The same group that moves from Makua beach to electric beach . Every day. ( I’m not sure). I also was able to see shadow way longer then 10 feet by the break wall , (outside the pokai bay ) . People said this is a 14 feet shark . Passing by there every morning for a period of a few months.
