Great video. A lot of effort went into this by the looks of it. I have a video suggestion. Can you talk about the different Salmon Run maps and what they have become today (I say this because Maroonas Bay just came out)? Keep up the good work!

Rollers are pretty fun in Splatoon 3 when the map designers don't decide to screw over close ranged weapons. Hopefully we get map revamps so rollers can really shine

My SO's a Roller main (Carbon specifically) and REALLY helped re-ignite my love for them on the buildup to Splatoon 3. Genuinely really happy that a few of them have gotten some good kits in it and that, while they could still use a few more buffs, there's much more room for them to thrive.

For me roller was always a cool class but I never used it in rank. I also think the reason why rollers have really dropped off is because I feel like splatoon is game dominated by range and speed, things that the roller clearly lacks in. But I’m happy ink armour is gone and that most classes could actually do their jobs and while yes tenta missiles are a thing they have be burned in a very smart way. Overall I do want rollers back in the spot light because I feel like we need actual threatening close ranged weapons in splatoon because most if not all the top picks a long ranged backliners, mid-ranged slayers and obnoxious support kits. It would add more verity to the game.

The rollers actually did get pretty considerable nerfs from 1 to 2. All three of them used to do the same damage in their horizontal flicks horizontally (if that makes sense), basically you didn’t need to aim the horizontal flicks to one shot, but in 2 it was changed so you had to aim the horizontal flick to get full damage, and it carried over to 3 as well. Also the Dynamo got huge nerfs in both paint output and especially damage from 1 to 2
@Dynashu
@Dynashu Год назад
4:03, I would like to add that there sorta was 2 considerable nerfs for carbon and dynamo from the transition from 1 to 2. But the dynamo got hit the hardest from it. The ohko range on the horizontal was reduced a lot, and made it so that the paint was a lot more inconsistent (which can be fixed, since the big swig paints quite consistently) and shorter ranged. The vertical somewhat compensates for that but it's slow. I think they made it so that you must rely on the vertical for splats, but it's way too slow and still gets easily outranged by popular weapons like the E-Liter (or Jet Squelcher with some mpu in Splatoon 2) The actual reason they buffed the dynamo roller was from how they butchered it. Unfortunately, there's still hasn't been any improvements in Splatoon 3

Back in Splatoon 1, I used to be a diehard Krak-On roller main, since it was just so much fun to shark around and basically instakill anyone (by playing steadily enough and being rewarded for your patience) or just stall on tower with the kraken special 🤣 I unfortunately missed out on playing all of 2, since by the time I got my switch, 2 was already 'dead' as 3 was already announced, so I chose to just wait for 3 to come out and essentially jump into the frying pan in regards to getting used to the radically changed meta (thanks to how 2 removed kraken, added new weapon classes and specials I haven't be acclimated to playing against) It's safe to say that I am really disheartened that rollers just don't FEEL good to play with in this game, and even when I use the Flinza, it doesn't feel very fun either 😅 I did main Slosher Deco on the side in 1, so I did have some experience with the slosher class so currently I main Sloshing Machine! I just hope they'll add a new roller that feels.... like it actually FITS the more frantic speed of 3 (while it's awesome that Big Swig just got added, it sadly feels TOO niche in it's application to various modes, so sadly looks like it'll be awhile until we get a new roller again 🙃)

I'm kind of in the same boat, in that I played a lot of Splatoon 1 and kind of skipped 2 and came back for 3. Although, I was never a huge roller player. The carbon was the only one I would go to in 1 and when I tried it in 3, I wasn't a huge fan of the kit. However, I've been having a ton of fun with the Carbon Roller Deco, that just came out. I guess I REALLY wanted those burst bombs back and the Inkzooka's range feels good. I don't know if the kit fits a sharking type of playstyle, but I've personally been enjoying it more than the regular Carbon and the flingza in 3.
@marekdec8605
@marekdec8605 Год назад
I used to be a diehard krak-on roller main in 1 also. I played 2 a lot, and playing 3. Im not sure 100% but between 1 and 2, I think they changed at least base roller so that you need to hit in the middle of the flick to kill consistently. They kept it like that for 3 though. But in both 2 and 3, I feel like most of the time I still need two flicks to kill hitting in the center or with a vertical flick. Even with damage up in 2 and the removal of ink armor in 3. It might be a skill issue, but closing in the distance only to not hit the flick enough in the center and dying for it is annoying sometimes. It's not too annoying for me personally so I still play roller in 3, but those 2 combined with kraken being removed for the base roller might be why rollers dont feel very good. I think rollers are still just ok with maybe carbon deco and flingza being exceptions with burst bombs and tenta missiles.

I think there is another aspect that wasn’t mentioned here between 1 and 2 and that's the vertical flick. Sure, it was a POWERFUL new tool for ranged combat when mastered, but in return all 3 (especially Carbon and Dynamo) got their main flicks weakened to put it lightly (seriously, carbon got BUTCHERED) and it essentially removed the jump horizontal for extra range, a common way in 1 to get just that extra bit out of the flicks. This in combination with everything else mentioned (not to mention carbon being stuck with autobomb storm kit for so many months) essentially gutted the class at first. And when the meta was ruled by Tri-Slosher with ink armour, it's clear to see the fall from grace even on day one, one that the ripples of are still felt to this day.

Honestly something that I noticed and saw no one bring up is that the carbon actually got nerfed across games. While it's very minor, the vertical flick is actually slower in the third game- while it's small enough of a change to be unnoticed by the average casual and competitive player, as someone who was a huge carbon deco sweat in splat2, (only managed to get bronze badge bc online is a luxury in Argentina) this is a huge eyesore and it actually somewhat makes me prefer the splatana stamper more
@SunshowerHeathcliffBeliever
I wish rolling as whole was faster. You’re telling me rolling over somebody after walking straight into point blank range is broken if you stand a chance of success, but being sniped from across the map by a e-liter when every stage has a stupid amount of open space is fair game? Honestly.

Nothing to do with the theme of the video but seeing footage of all 3 games back to back really made me realize how much better the ink looks in Splatoon 1, imo. It's so bright and saturated, even when it's cast in shadow it doesn't get significantly darker, it mostly just changes the HUE slightly, it not only contrasts with the ink from the other team but also with the un-inked spots on the ground, it makes it way easier to process everything in motion, and it's also just way more vibrant and pleasing to look at. In 2, it looks like they tried to give it depth, which is fine but it doesn't look as satisfying as having 2 bright, solid, contrasting colors imo, the main problem though is that, in shadow, it gets SO dark that it can actually affect your gameplay by blending in with the un-inked ground in motion, on top of just looking... off. 3 fixed the depth problem in 2 and is definitely an improvement over 2 in the way it reacts to shadows (although that's not really saying much) but I still like the way 1 did it the most. Plus some specific colors in 3 are WAY too dark for whatever reason, but not because of shadows or because of the lighting engine or anything like that, it's just the colors themselves, they used shades that are way too dark. Like the green in pink vs green, that one just looks horrible.

Rollers are a weapon I just don’t see often in competitive play and it does make sense- Splatoon’s a fast paced game which is why other classes like shooters take first place. The only rollers I see are carbon and dynamo the most (again, competitively). I really want to see a more competitive scene for the other rollers… but I suppose it depends on how you or others play it. And if anyone’s wondering, I main Splat roller!

The music got a little too loud at some point but other than that great video! One thing I'd say that made rollers fall off are the new weapons. Once sloshers and blasters were introduced it was a slow and steady downhill. Since they can essentially do what rollers do but with more versatility. Now everything wither outranges orputspeeds tye roller to the point that it's not as good of a class

Have been a splat roller and carbon roller main since splatoon 1 launch... Splatoon 2 straight up made me quit playing splatoon because rollers were just unusable. SO GLAD splatoon 3 found a happy medium. I still DESTROY as a roller in splatoon 3 but a little less than I did in 1 (which is necessary tbh i was averaging 1200p and 14/0 kills in splatoon 1). The only thing I wish is ofc the Krak-on roller... Kraken really was the special made for close range weapons... And since that's gone well... Since we cant have Kraken i wish ninja squid worked as well as it did in 1.

As someone who mains the roller/brush/splatana class, I really like the roller and I use it a lot, however my biggest problem with it is it’s kit in Splatoon 3. Curling Bomb is just _terrible_ , it literally has no purpose on a weapon that can emulate it with a vertical flick. May I add, that it is just a horrid sub weapon in general, I see no reason to use fizzy over it. Big Bubbler is ok, but it doesn’t do much to help the Roller in general, so I don’t feel it’s a good match. Kraken worked a lot better in Splatoon, so here is my proposition. *Splat Roller with Splat Bombs and Ultra Stamp.* Splat Bombs are infinitely more helpful for it, as Rollers are disadvantaged Range-wise. This would help it to kill faraway players from a distance. Ultra Stamp is the closest special to Kraken we have to date, so that is my personal preference. I don’t play the other ones as much to tell what kit I would give them, though.
