Watched this video earlier and talked to you already but I just want to show more love here as I keep coming back. Can't help but continue to analyze the detail and intricacy of this project. It's nice to see a mapper actually put a reasonable effort into Africa for once, especially into such a specific region. Well done!

The bank called me and said that I was chosen for a charity 100$ giftcard, but I need to show my password to the vault of my most valuable possession to confirm that it’s me. When they entered the vault, there was only a slip of paper, with the link of your RU-vid channel written on it.

Kingdoms*
@UdinJibral
@UdinJibral Месяц назад
@@FromNothing most never really organize into a kingdom.
@FromNothing
@FromNothing Месяц назад
@@UdinJibral That's not true. They were actual kingdoms. They had kings, capitals, armies, and trade networks with complex political economies and economic systems. It bothers me that the simple fact that they were in Africa makes people refer to them as "tribes." He even has a category at the bottom right corner of his legend to distinguish tribes from kingdoms. Solid borders are kingdoms/states. The fuzzy undefined regions are tribes and/or stateless peoples. The Fulbe at the bottom right corner of the map at 2:58 for example. As you can tell on that logic, most of the places depicted in the video were in fact centralized states. Not tribes. We just loosely toss around words like "tribes" and "chiefs" simply because they are African which undermines the complexity of the civilizations. For example we call people like the Yoruba of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo as a "tribe" even though they number some 40 million, span 3 countries, and have been building cities, kingdoms, and empires for thousands of years. Yet the Scottish who only number about 5.5 million, only inhabit the northern part of the British Isels, and primarily lived simple lives are never referred to as tribal.
@UdinJibral
@UdinJibral Месяц назад
@@FromNothing Thank you for your explanation. My country (Indonesia) kingdom is Coastal focused, with history of inland tribes/kingdom is fairly unknown, I cannot even found much of the Dayak history but I know that the name "Dayak" Was basically means inland people's. So I think I can implement this in my future understanding.
@UdinJibral
@UdinJibral Месяц назад
@@FromNothing I had a rather shallow understanding of Africa, but west Africa is my primary interest. I know something like Wolofia Mali and more, but I probably should re-studied west African Civilization. I also had an interest in South Africa and East Africa but the books and documentary that I read refer most as "Tribes" And "Chief"

What's with the border change in 1850?
@arsha1434
@arsha1434 2 месяца назад
Good question, that's a change in borders shown in the National Atlas of Senegal. I go in more detail in my source document, but in effect there likely were border changes that occured before this time, since I did observe changes on the Kajoor-Waalo and Waalo-Futa Toro border prior to 1850, but I could not find these specific changes for the other kingdoms
