RU-vid has been around for 13 years now, and so many creators have come and gone. But one of the earliest channels to find major success on RU-vid was Ian Hecox & Anthony Padilla's, "Smosh."
In today's episode of "A Brief History" we take a look at how Smosh went from a simple pre-RU-vid website to become one of RU-vid's most successful and long lasting channels!

It's not even about being pc. It's just that the quality itself of most YT comedy and video content has gone down. Yes, there was alot of toxic stuff back in the early 200's on YT but there was still alot of quality content. I will admit many channels still upload quality content. It could just be my nostalgia of Smosh's Pokemon theme song talking.

I miss the old Smosh so much. Presumably 2009-2013 were the absolute best of them. I have so many good memories of watching their videos from this timespan, and they were pure gold. Pokemon in real life was my first video that I saw when I was younger (lots of nostalgia with that one) and I loved it. It was so original and honestly just really funny. Good times these were on RU-vid, good times

Agreed. I basically just go to the Smosh Games channel every Tuesday afternoon for the Honest Game Trailer of the week now, but I have to give Ian and Anthony props for creating enjoyable stuff over time. And also for getting me onto RU-vid, because I think everyone in middle school then was watching basically Smosh, nigahiga, and some channels that probably don't exist anymore (and lots of one hit wonders).

Whats cool is that Ian and Anthony went to my high school back in the day. Alot of their early videos were filmed in the neighborhood surrounding the school and on the various fields on the campus itself. Sadly i never got a chance to meet them since they graduated in June of 2005 and i was an incoming freshman in August of 2006. Thank you for making this video, i had honestly stopped watching their content many years ago and this was a huge nostalgia trip!

To Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, I’ve always been a huge fan since I first started watching RU-vid with my big sister. You guys are awesome and one of my biggest inspirations. I miss being in third grade and coming home to school to rewatch the videos I've already seen while I wait for their weekly skit that they uploaded on fridays, they we're my idols at one point because they made me laugh so much which leaded to be generally being a happier person. I still seven years later go back sometime and watch their old videos again and I still laugh. I could write a lot of about how I used to watch all their channels but the point is that I miss the old days but I am grateful for how much they made me laugh.

I think it's really sad that smosh didnt really make that much progress in the last few years. They were blowing up until a few years ago, and since then they havent really moved. I just think that they deserve more than they have, considered the work they actually put in their videos...

I never knew that's why Anthony left, but I really respect that decision. I feel the same way about a lot of things in life, such as creative writing, or art courses. I have a passion for both but by taking courses to improve both skills I feel would only restrict me to what the curriculum requires and has discouraged me from pursuing said courses and only practice on my own free time.

Smosh is the only channel to this day that I have kept watching.I started watching 5-6 years ago when they made the video “flappy bird sucks!”I’ve been subscribed to it since and consistently watched it.I can say right now that I’ve watched all the every blank ever’s and over all around 80% of their content.They are actually the reason I got into watching RU-vid more.

It kinda frustrates me how people hate on "the new" smosh- things change and it honestly wouldn't be that great if it was always the same. In all honesty, I don't watch their main channel much anymore but I really enjoy smosh games, and smosh pit. Its changed and I really did love the old sketches, but things aren't meant to stay the same. Mmmm I just love'm

I guess it's just a thing about growing up on both parts and sort of forgetting the channel was there since there is now so many big content creators. I went back recently and didn't really enjoy it. But that honestly can be said about any youtuber so I guess what they post isn't my kinda thing. After they stopped using the Shut Up thing is when it stopped being as good

Thats kinda rude, considering our current smosh has gone through alot and are just trying their best. Do i prefer their old videos? Yeah. But still, you shouldnt disrespect an old legend just because it's no longer one.
