Man most people dont even realize that the entire genre started as a dota 2 mod (deja vu). In the end riot would once again enhance the idea to the point where original is basically killed while their improved version of it thrives

TFT was almost killed to. It's surprising how fast the genre imploded on itself. TFT's model is the only one that survived: constantly rotating sets. It thrives on feeling fresh, like a roguelike that is perpetually revamped. Which is cool to think about.
@Beyond_The_Nexus
@Beyond_The_Nexus Месяц назад
Yes the TFT model works but it also has some flaws, because each time they release a set that's not good they lose part of their player base. Feels like 2 bad sets one after another will kill TFT at this point. Hopefully we will avoid that but after playing set 12, I'm not so sure

There’s also Autochess (owned by the creators of the original). Valve made the same mistake that Blizzard did with Dota Allstars by not giving respect to the original creators and giving them a good contract. They’d have Dota and Autochess right now, but greed.

I don't know if everybody knew about it back then but a couple of devs of Underlords was in the discord server exclusively for Lord of White Spire players, they were actively communicating to the players on what to improve and if a bug gets found it is reported to them and it will be patched within hours if possible but during the release phase/season 2 of Underlords they really tried to communicate with the players but it became toxic and i think the dev just gave up on communicating. Mort found a way to handle it better and i think communicating with just a certain amount of players helped. Also during the release the top underlord streamer just bitched about the game and to the point that he even banned the word "underlords" when he was playing other games. Also chinese player also hosted a tournament because the game was still played in china around 2020 with a decent prizepool to be able to increase the numbers but failed, coincidentally during the time of the tournament was also the time underlords released a patched and it will be the last patch of the game (i haven't checked the game since 2022 so not sure about this). A lot of efforts was tried to keep the game going but alot of things also wasn't going their way.

Thanks for sharing! You're right, the last Underlords update was in 2020. It's funny how that works; I was still playing Dota 2 when Underlords launched and knew the characters, so naturally, I tried it out. While it was okay, it didn't quite click for me, so I switched to TFT, which I still play. Interestingly, I even stopped playing Dota 2 and moved to LoL after that. It's crazy how a spin-off can have such a big impact on a player's gaming habits. I really wish Underlords was still around, especially when TFT releases less-than-stellar sets. Talking about you Magic n' Mayhem 🤮🤮🤮

video itsewlf is high quality but the story line is messed up and seems random. It goes from story of history of Dota vs TFT to just only talking about TFT. then randomly coming back to tft again. I also don't know who the target for this video is. Current TFT or new people. Current tft players a lot of details you added were boring

The main reason that Underlords (and by extension, Artifacts) was discarded is because valve decided too early that the game wouldn't make any profit. While it is true that some aspects of the game are undesirable, it can still be changed by the devs. TFT almost failed by set 2, but they persevered and came out better because riot either saw the potential or have budget to spare.

I loved Underlords so much and I still don't get how TFT was able to "kill" it that easily. It was so easy for new players to get started because it had a very detailed tutorial and a PvE-campagin with over 100 setups (e. g. puzzles). With TFT I fell like you don't even live long enough to even learn anything from your first rounds.
@Beyond_The_Nexus

I don't think TFT directly killed Underlords. It feels more like what happened to Artifact - Valve created a game to capitalize on the trends, then seemingly abandoned the project. It's a shame, really, because both Artifact and Underlords were/are good games.
@munkleson8882
@munkleson8882 3 месяца назад
TFT killed Underlords the same way LoL killed Dota. It didn't. Valve just gave up on it and put it on no/minimal maintenance, as they do with games in general (let's see how long the hero shooter one lasts)
@toddybeartwitch

For my personal experience the game stopped having players in ranked-mode when TFT got released and from that moment on Valve was still providing updates. When the last big November-update was released the game already lost most of his player base. Funny enpugh some poeple on Reddit now calling out for Valve to revive this gem because TFT needs Riot's Vanguard to run. :D

Yes I know! He said that he was given one more chance (set 3) to make it work before sunseting the project. Also Set 2 was the first time when I stopped playing TFT. What I meant when I said the "success of set 2" was the core idea of sets started and evolved with set 2, a proof of concept if you want. We wouldn't had good sets without the bad ones so in that sense even if set 2 was BAD it was also good

I feel like this video ( mostly in the second half) is just a giant glazing to TFT. All the words used sound very good, like you've really written a good script with rich wording, but calling TFT divisions " ladder, ingeniously segmented into tiers" or creating sentences with many other over the top words, make it look like a promotional video, glazing Riot's product to high heavens. The video is still nice, and high quality:>

I like the video, it was interesting to watch the history of the genre. But it also felt like a suck-up to TFT for a long time, until you mentioned DOTA Underlords last update in 2021. So my constructive criticism would be, consider mentioning that earlier in the video, since you've been talking about Underlords before anyways, finish the thoughts on them first. anyways, good work.

Thank you for your feedback! It's true that most of the second half of the video is focusing on TFT, that's because my channel is mostly focusing on Riot Games, I'm also playing a lot more TFT than Underlords, so it was easier for me to script the video this way. It's not like I have anything against Underlords, if Valve would support the game I would like to go back and play it

@@Beyond_The_Nexus Aren't all EA Sports games dogshit and just bait for younger and dumber audience to buy a copy of last years game over and over? Regarding riot, there's nothing wrong with taking major inspiration from other studios. Riot has mastered "dumbing down" games to make them more accessible for casual players.

By this logic, Dota 2 is just a pathetic copy of the original Dota since all they did was take some of the original developers of that mode and create Dota 2 with their Source 2 engine. League took Dota as inspiration, and their game nowadays is so much different from Dota, yet Dota 2 looks more like an upgrade to Dota. So basically Valve did the same, but we only find Valve meat riders crying about that on Reddit. For Underlords, it is clear that the devs who created the mode didn't agree with Valve and went and created their own game. So Valve went and created Underlords just to fail miserably, yet Riot took the inspiration from the mode and made a good game out of it that serves both casuals and the competitive. Basically, TFT was inspired by Auto Chess, not Underlords, and it came two weeks after Underlords. But what can I say, Valve meat riders lack logic when they start pulling shit out of their ass.
@liqiye3611
@liqiye3611 2 месяца назад
League came out in 2009 and Dota 2 came out in 2013. So, even with a more advanced engine and a graphically appealing game, they failed to dominate the genre. Why don't people understand this logic? Making a game accessible for both casual and competitive players is always much harder than just making a game for competitive players. This is why Valve only succeeded with CSGO and dominated it because there is only one game. The funny part is they don't have to care about it. They can just focus on Steam and gain money without creating any game.
